Walking right in, my steps taken quietly into the main hall, I met the Director staring at the screen where the breaking news was playing, his cellphone pressed to his ear. He was making

calls.

“You don’t have to worry about that at all, and I must apologize for the staff incompetence, Grant.” He listened a few seconds, then laughed at something my dad said and nodded. “Of course. Whenever you are ready. And yes, my only daughter is your son’s to marry. I can’t even come in between them now. Alright. Good night, Grant.”

After that, he lowered the phone and disconnected, turning slightly, then immediately, the moment he saw me, a big smile spread across his face.

He had sent a message for me to come check on him before I went home that night, and here I am. Him and my father had been friends since they worked on the same line of duty. Through their mutuality, my eldest brother and Sera had met, and they love one another too much for words to describe.

Now, staring at Mr. Castle, I bowed in respect, and he sighed, his eyes on me warmly.

“You made us all proud tonight, Snow,” he said, walking up to me. “Apart from the fact that Kashi is your brother, you saved the H.O.W.L law and duty from punishing the innocent. You deserve a praise at this, and I will praise you. Thank you so much, child. You did well.”

I smiled at him gratefully.

“I didn’t do it alone, father. Alongside your belief in us and my colleagues, we did it. Thank you too for believing in me and granting me a second chance after I turned down the offer to work here years ago.”

At that, he searched my eyes and nodded, patting my arm gently. He also knew my story. The stab, the rape and he smiled understandingly, almost sadly, before presenting me the profiler badge quietly and placing it into my open palm.

“There are many cases that we have closed and never ever reopened. Some where the real culprit was never found, so we forgot it.” He paused, looking at me as he nodded gently. “If ever you feel like reopening the case ‘Dark Alley four years ago, Snow, come to me. I will grant the order and give you all support. For now, you should take a few days off, just like your colleagues. You look… pale. Good job, and good night.”

With that, he smiled softly and walked away, leaving me alone in the main hall, cold and quiet.
