I made my way into the hall that led to his bedroom, pausing at the entrance long enough to catch Desmond standing guard by the door. The whole place was locked down tight, guards posted everywhere, security thick as a second skin.
My cousin glanced back at me and gave a small nod, as if to say it’s nothing serious. I set my jaw and stepped inside.
I’d missed my father’s call twice, something I had never done before. It wasn’t supposed to happen, and it bothered me enough that I left without a second glance, even though she still sat on my mind like a stone too heavy to move.
Inside my father’s bedroom, the space was massive, fitting for the Alpha of the Godlike Pack and the godfather of the Godlike mafia empire.
He was on the bed, though he’d already sensed me. I kept my head bowed, respecting his privacy; I could smell the presence of the woman beside him. That was normal. Ever since he and his Luna separated, he’d kept his bed warm with the women who belonged only to him.
“You didn’t pick up my calls,” he said first.
I bowed deeper.
“I apologize, Father.”
Silence settled for a long, heavy moment. I felt his gaze on me before he finally sighed and shifted away from the bed.
“It’s a new business deal I want you to personally oversee. There is no one I trust more than you, my son, when it comes to the Mafia Empire. That is why you are made the king. Why you rule that world.”
He approached, holding out a document. I lifted my gaze briefly as I took it from him.
“Draven Consortium,” he said. “Their legit front is luxury shipping, rare commodities, high–end import and export. That’s what keeps them respectable in the human region and the wolf territory. But beneath all that…” His voice dropped. “Drugs smuggling. So intoxicating you will get addicted as well. That’s their underground.”
I looked through the papers, a contract awaiting two signatures. That of the Godlike Mafia King’s and the CEO of Draven Consortium.
“I want you to make a deal with these people, Cupid. They are smart, and reliable. With them, we become wealthier. Stronger.”
I lifted my eyes to his briefly before nodding. I could never tell him no.
“Bring back drugs,” he murmured, already turning to rejoin his woman. “The Godlike empire needs to
sells more and earn more.”

I didn’t argue. Didn’t speak. I only bowed and walked out, scanning the contract as I left his room.
Out in the hall, Desmond was gone. I headed toward the living room instead.
When I arrived, it wasn’t Desmond I found, it was my grandmother.
I stopped instantly when I saw her, and she responded with a glare.
“Now you can’t run away anymore, can you?” she said, already turning toward her quarters. “Come take your breakfast.”
She walked off, and despite her sharpness, she was still the same caring woman she’d always been. After the night I gave her a ride through the snow, when a certain lady left her ring with her, I hadn’t gone to see her again. I knew exactly what she would say.
e wanted me to bring home a wife.
Her quarters were tucked deep within the pack grounds, the house my father built for her. Comfortable, but she had arranged it herself, choosing an old–era style that suited her taste.
She was already seated at the small dining table when I walked in. There are three chairs, simple. Breakfast was tea and toast. Without a word, I took my seat and stared into the steaming cup for what felt like forever. All I could think about was her eyes. Her moans.
She was so beautiful. So sweet.
For the first time since being adopted, aside from pleasing my father, I felt like I had a new purpose.
To own her.
That woman.
I didn’t care about her past, no, that was a lie. I cared. Deeply. And the men who raped her? They were going to taste their own medicine. Only far, far more bitter.
“Work?” my grandmother asked suddenly,” “ng at the contract I’d placed on the table.
I stared at the document for a moment before nodding. She had no real idea what we did. She knew it wasn’t legal, but she didn’t know how bloody it truly was.
I reached for my tea, but her voice cut through again.
“So you still haven’t found the woman who owned that ring from the other night?”
I paused.
Here
we go.
“Not yet, Grandma,” I murmured.
A soft groan escaped her.
“Well, maybe you should search harder. You should…” She stopped when I lifted my gaze to her. Her eyes

narrowed. “What?”
I hesitated. A long few seconds.

I wondered if what I felt was real, if this warmth in my chest was affection, admiration, maybe something close to love. My grandmother and I were close; if I ever brought a woman home, she would be the first to know.
“I want to fulfill your wish, Grandma,” I said softly.
She froze. Her eyes widened, slowly, beautifully alive with curiosity.
“Really?”
Before I could answer, footsteps sounded in the hall and the door opened. Desmond stepped inside, bowed to my grandmother, then looked at me.
“Boss, your flight is in ten minutes. You have to leave now.”
I went still.
“My father didn’t mention I had to leave immediately.”
“He booked the flight himself. And you’re going alone.”
I stood quickly, grabbed the contract, and headed for the door but my grandmother caught my wrist before I could go. Her eyes searched mine for a long, breath–stealing moment, then she nodded.
“You should go. When you return, you’ll come see me and say your words. Right?”
I nodded.
I kissed her temple gently before leaving.
Outside, a car was already waiting to take me to the airport. I pulled off my tracking watch and handed it along with my personal phone to Desmond. Then I turned to climb into the car, but stopped, looking sharply at him.
“Give me everything on that lady,” I said. The words ripped out of me. I couldn’t breathe until I spoke them.
Desmond frowned, confused, though I
“Which lady?”
he already had an idea.
“Snowflakes Frost,” I said, now knowing her name from last night. “Find everything about her and about her rape case years ago. Everything, Desmond. Don’t leave anything out.”
He hesitated. His eyes
showed it
“She’s married.”

“I don’t care.” The words were low, certain, burning with jealousy and possession.
“She’s a Frost, Frosts are with the law. Everythi
the Godlikes are not.”
I swallowed and started walking.
“Get it all for me, Desmond. No questions.”
“Fine,” he said, right as I got into the car
And then I was gone, headed for the airport.
