Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 496

Charlotte stood to the side, silently observing the subtle shifts in everyone's expressions.

She could sense that every person in this family wore a mask. They were bound by blood, yet all she felt was a chilling detachment. Did family ties really count for so little when power and profit were on the line?

Unlike her, Wesley simply took a sip of his tea, completely unfazed by the tension in the room, as if he had seen this all before.

Breaking the long silence, a man spoke up, his tone half-joking. "Sean, that tongue of yours is as sharp as ever."

"You flatter me, Caleb," Sean replied dryly.

Caleb Rayburn then turned to the old man at the head of the table. "Dad, it wasn't easy for Sean to find his daughter. The girl is a Rayburn, just like Wesley. What do you think?"

The patriarch slowly set down his teacup, his gaze deep and distant. He didn't answer Caleb directly, but instead looked at Charlotte, his voice low but filled with authority. "Your name is Charlotte, is that right? You certainly resemble Laurinda. No wonder Sean is so protective of you. Now that you've returned to the Rayburn family, you are one of us. We'll hold a welcome party for you in a few days."

Charlotte was taken aback for a moment before nodding. "Whatever you say, Grandfather."

The old man waved a dismissive hand, and Caleb rose to help him upstairs.

Sean also got to his feet and motioned to his children. "Let's go. The air in here is toxic."

Charlotte averted her gaze and followed her father and brother out of the grand hall.

As soon as the three were gone, Kate scoffed in annoyance. "Sean is deliberately trying to provoke me! Bringing back a long-lost daughter at a time like this!"

"What are you so worked up about? It's a daughter, not a son," Quincy said, finally able to light the cigarette he'd been craving since the old man left. "Besides Wesley, how hard can it be to deal with some girl? We can just marry her off to someone in an alliance. Problem solved."

At this, an idea sparked in Kate’s mind. "You know, you just reminded me. I've been trying to get out of that arrangement with the Sinclair family. Instead of letting Loretta suffer, why don't we send Sean's daughter over?"
