Charlotte sat restlessly in the passenger seat, unsure of how Evander was faring or what kind of harassment he was currently enduring.
Foster glanced at her through the rearview mirror. "Don't worry about Mr. Howard. The man isn't afraid of anything. A few reporters can't touch him!"
Charlotte lowered her eyes and stayed quiet.
These people showed up far too perfectly timed.
It was as if they knew exactly what was going to happen.
When things were this perfectly timed, they were usually orchestrated.
"Foster, I need you to look into someone at Hiram's company. A guy named Vance Shepherd." Her gaze darkened as she spoke with chilling calm.
Foster readily agreed from the driver's seat. "You got it! I'll have the results for you by tomorrow."
Elsewhere, Hiram's coworkers were gossiping about the incident in the smoking area. As the news spread to other departments, people were shocked. "Is it true? Hiram slept with a minor?"
"He got hauled into the precinct this morning. You think it's fake?"
"I saw the video online. Damn! His sister is gorgeous!"
"Oh right, Vance, didn't you head back with him last night?" someone suddenly asked.
Everyone in the huddle looked up at Vance, who was smoking in the corner.
Vance instinctively looked away. "I don't know..."
"Vance!"
Sienna Lockwood marched straight toward him. "You were the one who took him home last night! You were with him the whole time! How can you say you don't know?"
Faced with Sienna's interrogation, the rest of the group watched with amusement. Vance, however, felt a surge of irritation and crushed his cigarette. "I took him home, yeah, but he wandered off halfway. How was I supposed to know he went to a hotel?"
"He was totally wasted! There's no way he could have walked off on his own!" Sienna refused to believe it.
Vance's fists clenched, a heavy knot of anxiety and anger suffocating his chest.
Someone noticed his tension and quickly jumped in. "Sienna, come on. It's not Hiram's first time drinking with us. We all know his tolerance. That amount of booze wouldn't have knocked him out like that."
