Chapter 60
“We’re going shopping, bitches!” José burst through the door, voice full of energy.
“Yes we are!” Samantha hollered right behind him.

Maddox had left early to handle business somewhere. It was just me and my girls today. Their last full day here felt bittersweet, but I knew we were about to make it count.
It was 8 a.m. We headed to the shopping district first. I wore beige silk pants and the matching shirt, left completely unbuttoned over a simple black tank top. The heat was already pressing against my skin. Brittany had pulled my hair into an elegant updo. I finished the look with black Birkinstocks, a matching clutch, and simple silver jewelry.
“Are we all set?” I asked, adjusting the strap of my bag.
“Yeah, we are,” Brittany said with a nod.
We stepped out of the villa and climbed into the waiting car. Security flanked us- the same two gruff men Maddox kept assigning. From the corner of my eye, I caught sight of the unnamed blond man. I kept walking straight ahead, refusing to turn or acknowledge him. Maddox’s warning from yesterday still rang loud in my ears.
He had threatened to spank me.
The words sent a strange shiver down my spine. That was all the confirmation I needed-Bella had been telling the truth. I believed her the moment she said it. Maddox was more than capable of something like that. But not with me, right? He wouldn’t actually do it. He was just bluffing.
Deep down, a small part of me wondered what would happen if he wasn’t bluffing.
The thought should’ve disgusted me.
Instead, it made my stomach flutter in a way I hated.
I had spent years convincing myself I was over Maddox. That whatever we’d had died the day he walked away.
So why did he still have the power to unravel me with a single threat?
My skin tingled at the thought. What if he was serious? He had looked dead serious. Maddox wasn’t the type to make empty
threats.
There was no way I was letting him do that to me. The last time I gave him that kind of access, he left me with a child to raise alone. He didn’t deserve any control over me. For now, I would stay far away from that blond guy. Something about him pulled me back toward my dark days, and I couldn’t afford to go there again. I had come too far.
We started shopping on Matoyianni Street in Chora. Locals called it the heart of the island, and I understood why. The street buzzed with life, colorful shops, laughter, and the scent of fresh bread and coffee in the air. Designer stores lined both sides, offering high-end European brands at twenty to thirty percent off. It felt like a dream.
I had never been so grateful that Maddox left his card with me. I shopped without holding back. Bags piled up so fast I had to buy extra suitcases. The one I brought from the villa would never fit everything.
This felt like payback for every time he had been an asshole. I didn’t know if he expected me to be demure and spend almost nothing. There was no chance of that. Like Natalie said, I focused on the positives. Opportunities like this didn’t come often. This was my insurance. After the contract ended, I would resign, sell some of these items, combine the money with the payoff, and build a new life for me and Zara.
Rich people loved solving problems with expensive gestures instead of uncomfortable conversations. I had learned that lesson the hard way.

I already knew how they thought. I would use it to my advantage.
Damage successfully done,” Samantha said later, smiling proudly at the mountain of bags.
“I know, right?” José laughed.
“I’ll really miss you guys,” I pouted as we loaded. I hadn’t realized how attached I’d become to them.
Maybe it was because they’d treated me like Nia instead of Maddox’s employee.
Maybe it was because they’d made this strange trip feel normal.
Either way, the thought of saying goodbye left an unexpected ache in my chest.
“We’ll miss you too,” they chorused.
“You’re the nicest celebrity we’ve ever worked with,” Brittany said warmly.
“Celebrity?” I scoffed. “I’m not a celebrity.”
“Yes you are, girl,” José insisted.
“A billionaire one at that,” Samantha giggled.
I simply smiled. I didn’t want to seem too humble. Maddox was a big shot, after all.
“Nah, we can’t end the trip like this,” Samantha said as we drove back toward the villa.
“Yes we can’t,” José agreed.

“There’s a day beach club named Scorpios not too far from here,” Brittany said, scrolling through their Instagram page.
They all turned to me with hopeful eyes. “What do you think, Nia?”
I checked the time on my phone. Just past 1 p.m. We had a few drinks while shopping, but it wasn’t nearly enough. What was
there to lose?
“Is that even a question? We’re definitely going!”
“Yay!” They screamed excitedly.
“But listen, you’re all packing now,” I said sternly. “We’ll take your luggage with us. From there you’ll head straight to the airport. No missing flights today. Am I understood?”
“Yes, Mother,” José replied with a mock salute.
They headed to their rooms to pack while I went upstairs for a quick shower.
About forty minutes later, we were dressed and ready. I had done my own hair and makeup so they had time to get themselves together. I chose a black see-through lace maxi dress with a red bikini underneath. I added my Miu Miu black wedges and black clutch. Soft glam with a dramatic smoky eye, and I curled my hair. I twirled in front of the mirror. I looked like a different person. My alter ego was fully out and ready to have fun.
“Yass, Mama!” Samantha called as I reached the car. I was the last one down.
“You look really good,” Brittany and José said at the same time.
“Y’all look good too.”

Jose wore jorts, a black tank top, and a mesh shirt over it. Samantha had on a sunset yellow bikini with a white maxi skirt, her pink braids in two pigtails. Brittany wore a black swimsuit with a black mini skirt and a white button-up shirt draped over it.
“Mandatory shots, everyone,” Samantha said, opening a whiskey bottle as security loaded their luggage into the boot. “Open wide.”
I scrunched up my face as she poured a mouthful down my throat. It burned all the way down. I watched her do the same for the others.
The SUV took us to the beach. From there we took a yachi to the club. There was a road route, but we chose the fun way. W made a couple of drone videos on the boat with José handling the camera.
Scorpios were beautiful. Wooden chairs dotted the sand. Strings of lights hung from palm trees, and a huge dance floor sat in the middle. I could already tell this place would come alive at night.
