“I’m sorry,” the blond bastard, Chad, or whatever he said his name was-stammered. “I didn’t realise she was accompanied.”

“It’s alright,” Nia said to him as we walked away. Her voice stayed calm, but I felt her arm tense under my fingers.

“What the hell was that about?” Nia spat, yanking her arm free the second we were out of sight. Her eyes flashed with anger.

“What did I tell you last night?” I asked. I watched her stiffen for a split second before she masked it.

“Do I look like I give a shit?” she shot back.

I grabbed her neck firmly, not hard enough to hurt, but enough to make her feel it. “You haven’t…”

My phone rang, cutting me off.

“Mr. Kane, are you available for us to see right now?”

“Yeah, of course,” I answered, letting go of Nia. I watched her drop to the floor, knees buckling. “Where?”

“Zuma,” he said and dropped the call.

“I’ll attend to you when I’m back,” I told her, already walking out.

“Don’t let her out of your sight,” I ordered the two security guards.

“Let’s go,” I gestured to the rest of my team as we reached the truck.

We took the truck since Nia had been using the Escalade. She preferred it. She said the truck felt too oversized. I almost left one more guard with her.

Nia could be very difficult to deal with. She didn’t take instructions well. Everything I did was for her safety. That Chad bastard was shady. My PI had looked into him – he was on parole. Fucking bastard. And Nia was too trusting.

Speaking of the devil, I spotted him with a chick as soon as we started moving.

“Stop the car.”

I alighted quickly. In three strides I stood in front of him. He lounged by the pool in sweats, hands all over the girl in a swimsuit two sizes too small.

“Come with me,” I stated simply.

“What the hell, man?” he said, smiling. “I’m busy and you can’t just waltz here and boss me around.”

His voice carried. Bystanders turned to look.

“Since you want it this way, there’s no problem. I wanted a private, decent conversation with you.”

“What the hell is your deal?” he said, standing up. His hand stayed on her ass.

“Christian Chadwin Green.” He stiffened as I used his full government name. “You better stay miles away from my girl. If not. I’ll call your parole officer and report you for stalking.”

“What the…” he stuttered.

“You’re a criminal?” the girl asked.

“He is. You can check his ankles,” I smirked.

“That’s why you’ve been wearing pants,” she slapped him and stormed off.

“If you don’t stay away from what’s mine, I’ll make sure you regret it,” I said, voice low and intentional.

“I will stay away. I swear I will,” he said, shaking.

“Drive,” I ordered as soon as I got back in the car.

What’s mine?

Why did I even say that? She wasn’t mine. It didn’t really matter right now. She was mine for the length of this contract. At least for now.

We pulled up at Zuma. The place screamed money – sleek lines, ocean views, private tables. I was meeting one of my investors. Being in Greece meant I might as well use the time well.

I spent the day finalizing arrangements for my new business. I had started importing aviation fuel into Canada. Greece was one of the major producers. They had strong trade ties with the US. My goal was to open a direct flow with Canada too.

I kept my businesses private. I only handled international affairs myself. Inside Canada, I hired CEOs to run things. I needed the world to see me as a star athlete only. I didn’t want my success tied to the Kane name.

It was dusk when I finally returned to the villa. The meeting had gone well. The team could handle the rest. I had built everything that way. Efficient. Controlled.

Unlike whatever the hell was happening with Nia.

The image of her from earlier refused to leave my head. That black lace dress. The way heads had turned when she walked past. The way Chad had looked at her.

I poured myself a glass of whiskey.

One.

I let the burn settle in my chest. Nia was at the beach, according to security, I sat in the dark bedroom, listening to the distant sound of waves crashing against the shore.

Then I heard the front door open.

Soft footsteps and a quiet hum, as the bedroom light flicked on.

“What the hell, Maddox?” Nia pressed a hand against her chest. “You scared the hell out of me.”

She stopped when she really looked at me. I sat at the edge of the bed, shirt sleeves rolled up, an untouched second glass resting on the nightstand.

“You’ve been drinking?” she asked cautiously.

“One glass.”

Her shoulders loosened slightly.

“Okay. You can continue your brooding then. I’ll be downstairs.”

“Nia

She paused.

“What?”

“Come here.”

“No.”

I looked up at her. “No?”

“No.” she repeated. “You don’t get to bark orders at me whenever you feel like it.”

A flicker of irritation crossed my face. “You disobeyed me.”

She let out a disbelieving laugh. “You are unbelievable.”

She folded her arms across her chest. “You do not own me, Maddox.”

“I was trying to protect you.”

“By threatening me?” she snapped. “By having security follow me around? By deciding who I can and cannot talk to?”

“You don’t know what kind of man he is.”

“And you do?”

“Yes.”

“Then maybe use your words next time instead of treating me like one of your employees.”

Silence settled between us.

The anger in her eyes caught me off guard. Not fear, Not submission. Hurt.

“You don’t get to walk back into my life and start making demands,” she said quietly.

The words landed harder than they should have.

I dropped the empty glass on the side table.

“Come here. Nia, please…”

My eyes trailed slowly from her well-manicured feet up her thighs. She wore a polka dot mini dress over het bathing suit The fabric clung to her curves from the day in the sun. Her skin still carried a faint glow from the beach Her han looked messy from the wind and salt air She looked real.

She hesitated for a second looking deeper into my eye with the flicker of hurt replaced with something else, submission. Then she walked over Her steps were careful. She stopped in front of me Her breathing had already changed I could see the rise and fall of her chest.

In one swift move, I pulled her across my lap. Her dress rode up The white bikini underneath came into view Het ass looked soft and round under the thin fabric. My hand rested on the back of her thigh. Her skin felt warm from the sun

“Madd-” she started.

“Shhh.” I pressed a finger to her glossy lips. “You’ll do exactly as I say. For each spank, you’ll count.”

“Wait! I’m sorry,” she pleaded. Her voice shook. Her body tensed over my lap, but she didn’t pull away.

I hooked my fingers under the edge of her bikini bottom and pulled it to the side. Her bare ass felt smooth and warm under my palm. I stroked it once, slow. She shivered.

“So you can beg.”

Smack.

“Maddox,” she yelped. Her body jerked. The sound of my hand meeting her skin filled the room.

“That doesn’t count, Nia,” I said, voice low. My hand rubbed the spot gently.

Smack.

“One,” she counted. Her breath caught in her throat. Her fingers gripped the edge of the bed.

“That’s a good girl, Nia.”

Smack.

She was trembling by the fourth. Her thighs pressed together. A small whimper escaped her lips each time my hand landed. By seven she was a sobbing mess. Her ass glowed pink under my palm. Her breathing came fast and uneven. But she stayed there. She didn’t fight to get up.
