Contracted To The Beast novel Chapter 94

Chapter 94

I watched as Maddox drove us to Guffo Café in downtown Vancouver. It was quite big, nothing like the cute little cafés I was used to. The outside of the building was painted plain white, but the interior was a warm butter yellow.

It was beautiful, with really huge windows, strings of fairy lights, and lots of woodwork. The furniture was mostly wooden, with the exception of the deep couches.

I took a seat on a burgundy couch piled with multiple throw pillows. It was really cozy. Maddox sighed and sat beside me: I was obvious he didn’t want to sit here.

“You had to choose the one with the most pillows,” he said, shoving a couple of them to the side.

“It’s cute,” I replied as he rolled his eyes dramatically.

“Hi, welcome to Guffo’s,” a waitress with the name tag Macy said. “Here’s the menu. I’ll be back in a few minutes to take your order.”

“Thank you,” I said as she handed me the menu.

“Oh my goodness,” she paused and covered her mouth. “You’re the Beast. I’m such a big fan.”

“Thank you,” Maddox said with a polite smile.

I watched as she squealed excitedly, catching the attention of the few other people around us, before she walked away.

I watched as he took a deep exhale before continuing to browse through the menu

“Would you mind signing my Vipers jersey?” she asked with a broad smile when she returned. “I’m so lucky. I just had it delivered to me today and you just showed up.”

Maddox signed her jersey and she took our orders and left.

“She looked really happy to see you,” I said gently.

“Yeah, she was,” he replied, looking away. “I have a love-hate relationship with fan interactions, if I’m being honest.”

“On one hand it’s really wholesome and cute. It’s a moment I’m always grateful for. Kids saying they want to be exactly like me when they grow up and adults whose faces light up whenever they see me on the screen.”

“But these cutesy reactions can get dark really quickly. From obsessive fans to disappointed ones. Others who don’t understand the concept of personal space. Bringing up straight inappropriate conversations and asking intrusive questions.”

I watched as he ended his mini rant.

“I can’t even begin to imagine,” I said, and I meant it.

He fell quiet, staring into his coffee for a moment.

I didn’t know what to say.

I wasn’t even close to his level of fame, yet being known as Maddox Kane’s girlfriend had been enough to turn my life upside down. I’d deleted Instagram just to escape the constant notifications.

Living like that every single day…I couldn’t imagine it.

The waitress returned with our food. I had ordered a pistachio cube croissant and a Canadian maple latte. Maddox had a flat white and a butter croissant alongside a ham and cheese egg croissant.

“Thank you,” we said to our waitress.

“You’re welcome,” she said gleefully and left.

“She was really excited,” I said, smiling as I took a bite of my croissant.

“Yeah, she was,” he replied. “She’s a very cheery person.”

“And her excitement was just infectious,” I took another bite and let out a small moan from how good it was.
