Contracted To The Beast novel Chapter 93

Chapter 93

I watched the elevator numbers tick down until the doors slid open on the ground floor. I walked out quietly, shoving both my hands into my pockets.

“Good morning, Mr. Kane,” Leo greeted.

“Good morning,” I replied as I watched him lean on the Escalade. “How are you doing?”

“I’m doing great,” he replied politely

“I need you to run a few errands for me,” I said to him. “It involves the man that attacked me.”

Leo’s jaw tightened.

His fingers curled into fists so quickly the leather of his gloves creaked.

“Okay, Sir.”

I handed him the card of my PI. “Call that number and work with him. I just need you to shadow the investigation and report to me.”

“Consider it done, Sir, but what about Dr. Page?” he asked calmly.

“I’ll be with her the entire day so don’t worry about it,” I replied.

“Okay.”

I watched him walk to his SUV. Before he even pulled out of the driveway, he already had the PI on the phone.

The concern in his voice when he mentioned Nia hadn’t been subtle. He genuinely cared about her.

If I’m to be honest, Leo doesn’t really need to be in on the investigation of Trey. My PI is more than capable, although Leo will make a very valuable addition. Especially with his active-duty Marine background.

I know because I ran a comprehensive background check before I hired him. I always do.

I sent him out for two major reasons: to ascertain his prowess and, most importantly, so Nia and I could get to be alone.

She’s becoming quite used to him, which is a good thing. It’s very easy for her to warm up to people. She’s a chill person. A very chill one despite her social anxiety.

I’d stayed at the condo instead of the penthouse.

Not because I had work nearby.

Because she was here.

Sometime after sunset, I’d caught headlights pulling into the driveway.

I’d stood by the window longer than I cared to admit, watching her climb out of the car while Leo unloaded what looked like half the mall from the trunk.

My phone buzzed with debit alerts the entire evening.

Every notification made me grin.

She was finally using the card.

I doubted she’d ever understand how ridiculously happy that made me.

I checked my wristwatch. It hadn’t even gotten to 8 a.m. Yet here I was standing alone in the driveway, waiting for her to come down.

I got up quite early today so I’d be able to meet up with Leo and dismiss him before she was ready for work. I felt really proud of myself. I can’t believe I woke up early just to aura farm.

I heard the slight clink of heels. I turned to see Nia. The soft click of heels echoed through the lobby.

1 looked up.

There she was.

Tan tailored trousers hugged her long legs, a blue striped button-up rolled neatly to her elbows. A matching cardigan rested across her shoulders, and her hair was pulled into its usual high ponytail.

She wasn’t dressed for anything special.

Somehow, she still stole all the air from my lungs.

Her hair was in her signature high ponytail with tendrils framing her face. Her lips were matte red and she looked stunning.

“Leo,” I heard her call out before I stepped out quietly.

“Maddox?” she called out in shock.
