Rania listed the things that she needed. She looked calm on the surface, but deep down, she prayed that she wouldn’t mess this up.
She tried so hard to remember all of the lesson from Karin and prayed she didn’t misremember something.
“That’s all I need,” Rania said after she told Eli and
Rona what kind of plants that she needed. She also
asked them to make fire so she could brew all of the
concoction.
“I think we can find the other five plants, but what is the Locus?” Eli asked, she was not familiar with one of the plants.
Rania then remembered, probably they had a different way to call the plant here, so she described it instead.
“It is a small flower with green petals and if tasted it, it will taste a little bit bitter, but gave you a numbing sensation in the end.”
Eli and Rona looked at each other, trying to remember if they had ever encountered such thing before.
“We will try to find it out.”

And then they moved fast, Eli would go to look for the plants inside the forest with the other people, while Rona would stay, she would call Aria to help.
Barlukan kingdom was a little bit behind, they did everything manually and you would rarely see a car here or any electricity stuff that they had in the Aspen city, especially in a small harbor pack like Greenstone.
Therefore, most of the things had to be done in the old way.
Once Rona and Eli went out of the hut, Lucian approached me. He looked at me with a
questioning look. “Why do you help them?” he asked.
“Why don’t I help them when I can?” I asked him back and he looked at me sheepishly.
“I mean… you are a queen, you shouldn’t have dealt with this kind of stuff, you can ask for a healer to check on the child,” Lucian said lightly. He was
sitting next to Rania, staring at the sick child. “No one ever cared about them, no one will blame you if you don’t.”
Rania didn’t understand what Lucian was trying to say, she turned her head to look at him, and she saw a deep sadness and anger that she had never seen in

“What are you trying to say to me, Lucian?” Rania asked.
And as if Lucian snapped back to his own mind, he stuttered when he spoke. “I am sorry, my queen. I don’t mean to criticize you.”
“No, I don’t feel that way, don’t worry, but I want to know what are you trying to say? I know that you feel a certain thing, tell me what is it.”
Rania wanted to know more about Lucian. After losing Ares and Deryl, she felt bad because she didn’t know the people who had sacrificed their
lives for her.
She should have done better.
“Nothing, my queen. I am sorry.”
Rania shook her head. “I know there is something, tell me Lucian. I can see a sadness in you.”
Lucian averted his eyes, and lowered his head. This was not how he usually acted. There was something that bothering him and Rania wanted to know what was that.
“My queen, do you know that I am from Barlukan kingdom?” Lucian asked, he stared at the little girl who was still whimpering in pain in her sleep.

“You are from here?” This was a surprise for Rania to know that, she blinked her eyes at the warrior and this was the least that she expected. She wondered if Maximus knew about it.
“Yes. I was one of the children from the Barlukan Kingdom, my mother was an omega from a Deepsea pack. It is a few days from here.”
I pressed my lips when I heard that. No matter what pack she came from, the way they treated women in this kingdom was worse than anything else that Rania could imagine.
“What happened?” Rania asked carefully, she didn’t want to sound too eager and make Lucian closed himself again to her.
The warrior was deep in contemplation, as if he was trying to remember painful memories that he was ashamed to let anyone else to know about.
“My mother ran away with me to the Aspen Kingdom when I was six years old, I was trained to be one of the warriors for my pack. In this kingdom, the boys are trained very early. Around four to five years old.”
I have heard about it too. In Aspen kingdom, they trained the boys around the age of twelve or thirteen, therefore four and five was too young for Rania. They should have been treated as a child, playing around, not to learn how to kill each other.

“However, I was weak. I was born before the due date, so I was physically weak compared to the other boys. I was bullied.”
Lucian didn’t explain what kind of bullying that he had to go through, but Rania could imagine it wouldn’t be something like calling names or pushing you around. it was way more than that.
Barlukan kingdom was a kingdom of a savage, where kindness had no place here. Therefore, what Lucian had to go through when he was little must be… horrendous to say the least.
“My mother couldn’t stand to see me being treated that way, so she risked everything to run away from this hellish kingdom with me. I did leave, but my mother couldn’t make it.”
I feel my heart ached for Lucian, I didn’t know that he had this kind of past. “What happened to her?”
Lucian pressed his lips and then shook his head. “We were chased and in order to distract them, she made herself as a bait, as I boarded the ship. She said she would find me on the ship, but she had never come.”
