“You sleep first. Then I will sleep!” she said, patting my chest, deliberately pressing closer, as if anchoring herself there, letting her scent cling to me and the sheets.
But barely ten minutes later,
she fell asleep on my chest. Her breathing softened, slow and uneven at first, then gradually steady. Her warmth seeped into me, her scent everywhere—on my skin, in my lungs, until it wrapped around my senses completely. I gently pressed my lips to her forehead, lingering for a second before carefully resting her head on the pillow. Her face looked peaceful. Much calmer than it had been last night.
Last night, I had gone to the bathroom for only a moment. When she didn’t see me, she panicked. They told me how she searched for me frantically, her voice breaking as she called my name, her hands trembling as she pulled open doors that had never been locked to her. Today, she finally fell asleep, but only after she made sure my eyes were closed first, as if she needed proof that I wouldn’t disappear again.
My gaze drifted to her neck, then to her finger. She had opened the last box. I hadn’t taken off the necklace to remove the ring.
I gently rubbed my thumb over the ring and lowered my lips tot, kissing it softly. She flinched in her sleep, her brows knitting together, her fingers twitching as if she were searching for me even in her dreams.
“How adorable,” I murmured, though my chest tightened painfully.
I tucked her into the bed properly, smoothing the blanket around her shoulders before quietly leaving the room.
I walked toward the secret room where Lorenzo was waiting. My jaw clenched the moment I stepped inside and found him speaking with two others.
“How much do you need to finish it?” I asked, my gaze shifting to the surprise I had prepared for my beloved.
“Almost done, Your Majesty.”
I sat on the couch, resting one knee over the other. ” Make it perfect.”
They nodded, stiffening slightly under my presence.
I watched in silence as they worked, their movements careful an deliberate, adjusting every detail as if one mistake would shatter everything.
Nearly twenty minutes later, the sound of a door swinging open echoed from outside. A broken, trembling voice followed from the hallway.
* Sierra! Did you see His Majesty? He isn’t in his room!” Roana’s oice rang out, frantic and raw with fear.
“No, Your Highness. I didn’t see him. He didn’t come downstait” Sierreplied from below.
“She is awake,” Lorenzo whispered, his face draining of color.
Something cold twisted violently in my chest.
I grabbed my jacket and moved quickly, slipping into my study
“Where did he go? Did you give him the keys to the rooftop? Heisappeared last night as well,” she cried, calling my name through sobs.” Cassian! Where are you?”

Chapter 175
The sound of her voice, cracked and desperate, felt like claws tearing into my heart.
“Love!” I opened the study door and rushed toward her. ” I was just in my study. What happened?”

The moment she saw me, she ran forward and threw herself into my arms, clinging to me as if I might vanish if she loosened her grip. “Why do you keep leaving me alone? Can’t you stay when I sleep? How could you be so cruel?” she cried, her body shaking violently. Even the servants turned away, wiping at their eyes.
Last night, they explained everything to me.
How she hadn’t stepped out of the bedroom for a week.
How she barely ate or drank. How she didn’t respond making then think the worst. If Draken didn’t go in and out to check, they might have lost their mind for her.
As if she had already decided to follow me into the afterlife.
The realization hit me like a blade to the chest. I had survived flames, blood, and death itself. But the thought of her choosing to fade away because she believed I was gone shattered something deep inside me.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice breaking as I lifted her into my arms. ” I shouldn’t have left you alone.”
She felt impossibly light, fragile in my hold. Like something precious that could slip through my fingers if I wasn’t careful. A small, perfect thing who had almost let go of life because of me.
“You shouldn’t leave her alone for a while, Your Majesty,” Sierra aid gently as she climbed the stairs.” It’s been hard for her. She thought you were gone, and now… she’s terrified you’ll disappear again.”
I nodded stiffly, tightening my arms around her, guilt burning through my chest.
“Cassian,” she sobbed, burying her face against my heart.
“Shhh,” I murmured, pressing my lips into her hair. “I’m here. Im not leaving you alone. I promise. Never.”
I kissed away her tears, wiping them slowly, carefully, as if any rough movement might break her again.
She sniffled, her fingers curling into my pajamas, her nails digging in as though she needed to feel me there. Gradually, her body softened, exhaustion dragging her down.
I carried her back to the bed and laid her down gently, but she refused to let go. Her fingers clutched the sleeve of my pajamas, her red-rimmed eyes fixed on mine, pleading without words.
“I’m not going anywhere,” I said, lying down beside her and pulling her against my chest.
Only then did she finally close her eyes. She wrapped one arm around my waist, and to my complete shock, she suddenly tied my wrist with hers.
“Honey, what are you doing?” I asked, stunned.
“Running away?” she murmured sleepily. “Then you’ll take me with yet.”
“What if I need to use the washroom?” I asked, forcing a soft chkle.
“It’s fine,” she said drowsily. “I saw everything before. I’ll see it again.”
I facepalmed, exhaling slowly. I really shouldn’t have left her ale
“Okay. Whatever you want,” I murmured, pulling the blanket over us.

I woke up to the sound of the shower running. My jaw clenched as I threw the blanket aside and walked straight into the bathroom.
She didn’t notice me at first, too focused on checking the water temperature. I stepped closer and wrapped my arms around her from behind.
She flinched when I leaned down and whispered, “ Bad girl. You didn’t want me to leave you alone in bed, and now you’re spending such a sacred time without me?”
She trembled slightly before turning toward me. “What do you mean? I saw you sleeping so peacefully. I didn’t want to disturb you.”
“Disturb me?” I murmured, brushing my nose against hers. “Nothing about you could ever disturb me.”
She grinned and gently stroked my face. “You need to trim your beard. And shave too. Need help?”
“Will you?” I asked softly.
“Always.”
I watched her carefully apply the shaving cream, her brows furrowed in concentration, her lips pursed slightly.
She laughed when she noticed me bending down. ” Being tall really is a chore, isn’t it? I can’t even reach you without standing on my toes.”
“No,” I said, suddenly lifting her up. “It’s perfect. Because I can Hold you like this.”
“Put me down! I’m not a kid!” she hissed playfully, biting the tip of my nose.
“Ow. You little hungry lady.”
“Yes. For you, sweet boy,” she smirked, squishing my cheeks.
I smirked and pressed my cheek against hers, smearing shaving ream all over her face.
“You naughty boy!” she groaned. “I just finished my skincare.”
“Then let’s do it again.”
That was the greatest mistake of my life.
