Sitting in the bathtub, being held by him, I rested the back of my head against his chest. Cassian, wrapping his arms around me, kept pressing his lips to my neck, his breath warm and steady.
I was honestly surprised when I realized how soft he became with me. Outside these walls, his dominance alone could shake the ground. Yet here, he held me like I was something fragile, something precious.
“What are you thinking?” he asked, showering me with constant kisses and affection. The water splashed softly against the tub as he shifted slightly.
“Nothing,” I said, then smiled. “Just wondering how differently you act in front of me.”
He paused, his lips resting against my shoulder. “Differently?” he asked. “What do you mean?”
“I mean… you’re ruthless in front of everyone else. But with me, you’re just kind-hearted.”
“Really?” he asked, his voice deep.
“Yes.”
He went quiet for a few seconds before humming softly. “I am not ruthless,” he said. “I don’t like being ruthless. I’m strict, observant, and quiet. People call me ruthless because I believe in consequences.”
I listened carefully, my chest tightening a little. This was rare-Cassian explaining himself without command.
anger, without
“I know that,” I said. “The word ruthless has been abused for a while. Honestly, I used to think so too. Especially when I heard about the Riverbank case. You killed them.”
“They were the most wanted criminals in the werewolf world,” he replied calmly. “Their case was discussed by the Interpack Criminal Tribunal. Yes, it was me who requested the death penally. Otherwise, they would have killed every prisoner in the dungeon.”
“Hm.” I swallowed. “I read about their crimes. Their wolves were uncontrollable.”
“That’s true. But most of the leaders were against my ruling. They didn’t want direct execution. To me, it wasn’t about life for a life. When there’s too much blood, you can’t turn a blind eye. Also…” He lowered his head and rested his forehead against my shoulder. “They killed one of my old servants while being transferred to our Central Dungeon.”
My breath hitched. A sudden ache bloomed in my chest. “How?” asked, shocked. “The Central Dungeon is one of the strictest and deadliest in the werewolf world.”
He took a deep breath and pressed his lips against my skin. “Asaid, they were dangerous. They wounded our guards, and when one of my elite servants discovered them, they killed him silence him. It was chaos. So yes, in that case, I took personal revenge too. And I gave them the worst death a pack could give.”
His eyes darkened as he spoke, and a chill ran down my spine. Tose eyes… they truly could make anyone tremble. For the first time, I felt the weight of every life he carried on his shoulders every choice soaked in blood every burden carried
alone.
I gently stroked his hand as his grip around me tightened. Part me felt afraid, but another part felt unbearably sad. He wasn’t cruel. He was tired. He was grieving.
Six years ago, Cassian had been labeled the ruthless, bloodthirst Lycan King To outsiders, to me, before I knew the truth. he sounded like an unhinged leader spoken of in whispers.

Those criminals had been torn apart by rogues and hyenas. The victims’ families, seeking revenge, were allowed to stone them until they died. People watched openly while he sat on his hrone, elbow resting on the armrest, wearing that cold, unforgiving expression.
Come to think of it, my classmates and the she-wolf warriors who trained with me had admired his beauty.
“But!” His tone dropped dangerously, deepening with darkness. Tyran will face something cruel. Something no one has ever anticipated. Because I become petty when it comes to my people. Not only did he hurt you, he killed many I considered family. His death will be the-”
“Cassian,” I interrupted softly, turning to look at him with all the love swelling in my chest. “Shush. Not right now.” I smiled gently. “I want to think about us. About our future together. Let’s handle everything differently.”
His deep red eyes pierced into mine as his finger traced the shape of my face. He leaned closer, closing the distance.
“There is no future without you, Roana,” he said quietly. “That day, when I held you in my arms, all I could think was that I wouldn’t accept a future without you. So either I die, or I have you entirely as mine.” He suddenly lifted me and placed me on his lap, water spilling over the tub. “So don’t worry about our future. I will follow you wherever it leads.”
My face warmed as he whispered against my lips, the heat spreading slowly across my cheeks before settling deep in my chest. I wrapped my arms around his neck, my fingers tightening instinctively as if anchoring myself to him.
“I know. And we’ll rewrite our future this time.”
I kissed him softly, letting it linger a fraction longer than intended, reluctant to pull away.
“Let’s go. We need to get ready for the event.”
“Now?” he asked, clearly disappointed. His shoulders shifted beneath my hands, his hold tightening just enough to betray him. “I thought we could spend a bit more time—”
“No,” I said firmly, though my thumb brushed unconsciously against his neck. “Your people are waiting. You can’t keep them waiting. Be a good boy.”
He chuckled softly, the sound vibrating against my chest and making my breath stutter. With every passing second, I felt myself falling deeper in love.
I can’t believe this man is mine.
“It’s ours,” Rye protested.
“Yeah. Yeah. My lady. Ours.”
After putting on my bathrobe, I dried my hair quickly, the fabric clinging faintly to my damp skin and making me aware of every movement. When I reached for my makeup kit, Cassian’s and closed around my wrist, stopping me with gentle certainty.
“Not now.”
I frowned, my brows knitting together before I could stop them What to you mean?”
Instead of answering, he pulled me up and covered my eyes with his hand. The sudden loss of sight made my breath hutch
“You are irresistible,” he murmured, the words sending a ripple heat straight down my spine. “Trust me and come with
me.”
I clutched my bathrobe nervously, my grip tightening as if the tric alone could steady me. As he guided me out of the bathroom, my heartbeat quickened, each step sounding louder my ears than the last.

“Just a bit,” he whispered against my ear, his breath brushing my skin and making my shoulders rise instinctively.
I nodded obediently, my chin dipping before my mind fully caught up. But when I heard the closet door open, my nerves spiked, my stomach fluttering tight and restless.
