Dark Queen Of Apocalypse (by Morgan Hale) novel Chapter 280

As soon as he finished speaking, someone smacked him right on the forehead. Do you know what you’re saying?

The man dropped to the ground, his face full of confusion and helplessness. He murmured, It’s true. I saw it. Lakeside is gone. It was engulfed by a monstrous wave.

Everyone stared at each other in shock, then scrambled to their feet and ran toward Lakeside.

They thought, All the strongest people from the base were in there. If they died, the whole world would be thrown into chaos.

After all, the rest of them were just lowlevel powered humans. There was no way they could take on the top mutant beasts in the world.

Without the protection of the strong, they’d just end up being swallowed by those mutant beasts.

With no highlevel powered humans holding the line, everything would collapse.

If powered humans didn’t rise up, the base would be attacked, fall into an irrecoverable disaster, and humanity could even face extinction.

Some backed away in fear, others were frozen in shock, but most rushed desperately toward Lakeside.

When Emily heard the news, her face turned pale.

Emily, did you find anything?Frank asked, his voice tight with worry.

Lakeside was wiped out by a tsunami,Emily stammered.

What?Frank stared at her, completely stunned.

Chiara and Filip felt their blood run cold, their minds reeling as if starved of air.

Emily, what did you say? How could Lakeside be gone like that? What happened?Chiara blurted out.

Filip grabbed her sleeve. Enough. Let’s just go check it out. Chloe will be fine.

The team members nodded nervously. Yeah, Chloe’s always been lucky. She’s got her spiritual space. There’s no way anything could happen to her.

As they spoke, they piled into the Base Truck. Frank buckled up and floored it, tires kicking up dust.

Lakeside was swallowed whole by the ocean, vanishing beneath the waves. Wind howled, waves thundered, and it was as if the city had been erased from the world.

Just as dawn was breaking, a massive black snake rose from beneath the waves. Horns had already sprouted on its head, as if it were evolving into a Leviathan.

It was unbelievably long, its head rising high like a ridge of rock. Its dark green eyes glowed with a strange, unsettling look.

Chloe stood before the shimmering barrier of her spiritual space, staring straight at its colossal head.

Its mouth split wide, rows of jagged, infected fangs flashing in the dim light. Even separated by the spiritual space, Chloe could feel the terrifying aura that seemed to pierce right through the barrier.

Chloe stumbled back a few steps, and Noah helped steady her.

His face was grim, too. I’m afraid this isn’t just some ordinary snake.”

Chloe nodded, her expression grave. Yeah, it’s a Leviathan.

As she spoke, her body was trembling.

In her previous life, she’d heard stories about a Leviathan that appeared in the ocean, a legendary mutant beast.

It could stir up storms like it was nothing, turning the whole ocean into chaos.

Luckily, humans only lived on land, and that Leviathan never came ashore; it was the undisputed king of the ocean.

She thought, Could this be that Leviathan?

Just thinking about the spiritual space’s assessment of its level made Chloe’s face grow even paler. She turned to Noah. This Leviathan must not be allowed to survive.

It was already enraged. If it were not killed, it would spell catastrophe for humanity.

Yeah, its power could be Level 8,Noah said.

That’s why we need to think this through carefully,Chloe replied.

She walked over to the mutant cheetah. After being tossed aside by the Leviathan, nearly every bone in its body was broken.

Thanks to Chloe’s help, it was safe for now, but it would need a year or two before it could get back on its feet.

Chloe glanced at the raging waves outside, then quickly moved her spiritual space far away from the chaos, landing omewhere safe on solid ground.

Only then did she release all the powered humans from the valley within her spiritual space.

The scene flipped without warning. Most of them were still holding their attack stances, shields up, when they suddenly felt ightheaded and realized they were somewhere familiar.

Everyone stared at each other, not sure what had just happened.

What the hell just happened?Someone turned around, only to realize Lakeside was gone. What’s going on? Are we rapped in some weird supernatural loop or something?

While they were trying to make sense of it, a swarm of powered humans rushed over from nearby. Everyone was

crambling to find their leaders.

They asked, What happened? Where did Lakeside go?

The powered humans who’d just been sent here looked bewildered as everyone bombarded them with questions. They all shook their heads. We don’t know.

Noah walked up to Chloe and said, I’ve already used the comms to alert every base to lock down. The military’s got their missiles locked on this spot. We need to get out of here now.

With humanity on the brink, there was no time for suspicion or secondguessing, everyone moved as one.

Crowds surged away, retreating like a tidal wave.

Nobody knew why, but the Leviathan didn’t attack or leave. It just lingered there, stirring up wind and rain, unleashing chaos all around, as if it were searching for something.

By the next day, everyone had put as much distance as possible between themselves and the danger.

Satelliteguided missiles were fired straight at the Leviathan.

The explosions shattered the air, as if the sky itself were being ripped open. The shockwaves sent the ground into violent

tremors.

Out of all the bases, Ebony Base was the closest to Lakeside, so everyone ended up gathering there.

The blasts roared like thunder overhead. The earth shuddered, fractures tearing across the ground. One after another, people crouched down, hands over their heads, frozen in fear.

After days of nonstop bombing, the leaders from every major base around the world showed up. Trailing behind them were he strongest men from each region.

Someone said, Who knows what’s happening now? Did that Leviathan get blown up or not?

Some people let out hopeless sighs, while others looked downright terrified.

Chloe shook her head and sighed, thinking, No way it’s that simple.

The missiles unleashed massive destruction, and Ebony Base was rocked by the blasts.

The surrounding cities were reduced to ruins. Leaving the area was nearly impossible, let alone searching for supplies.

The worst part was that there were still hundreds of thousands of people stuck inside the base. After these past few days, veryone looked drained and worn out.

t was another sunny day. It hadn’t rained in forever. The heat was relentless, well over 120 °F.

Waves of heat rolled in, leaving everyone parched and lightheaded. Even as powered humans, the heat still got to them.

Chloe had her private room and was honestly living in comfort. She had water, electricity, and plenty of seasonal fruits and regetables stored within her spiritual space.

Watching the leaders from the major bases argue among themselves, Chloe had zero interest in joining their discussions.

Noah had been so busy that he barely showed up around Chloe these past couple of days.

As soon as the meeting started, several dozen people began filing into the conference room. Each person was a epresentative from a major base, all with real authority in the room.

Out of more than thirty attendees, only four were women.

As soon as Chloe sat down, all eyes turned to her.

Hey, young lady, which base are you with?the burly man next to her asked.
