Chapter 279
Chloe couldn’t help but cover her mouth in shock.
“Oh my god, System, is this the energy source I just absorbed?” she asked.
She could almost hear the System’s excited gasp.

“Congratulations, Host! You’ve obtained a superpower and become the core of the spiritual space. You’ve earned 10,000 points, and your time in the spiritual space is now unlimited. Do you want to upgrade now?” the System asked.
Chloe didn’t even hesitate to refuse. “Nope.”
‘If I upgrade in the spiritual space now, I’ll just get booted out again. And outside, there’s a pissed–off Level 8 Black Snake King waiting for me,‘ she thought.
Thinking back to her previous life, Chloe realized she’d never heard of the Black Snake King showing up. All she remembered was that the powered humans who survived were a little off, and none of them ever talked about what happened on Lakeside Island.
Plus, there was never any mention of such a huge energy source.
The craziest part? Lakeside eventually turned into a forbidden zone, and nobody dared to go near it.
‘So in my previous life, did nobody ever get their hands on that energy source? Maybe they found some other opportunity instead? Or was just being exposed to its glow enough to enhance their abilities?‘ Chloe couldn’t help but let her mind wander.
Chloe’s guess wasn’t just wild speculation. At this moment, her whole body felt refreshed, and she could sense a powerful urge to break through to the next level.
Suddenly, the spiritual screen in front of her snapped open, and when Chloe saw the figure inside, her expression tensed up.
“Why did that beast follow me in here?” Chloe muttered under her breath.
Before she could even curse, a gigantic, terrifying snake head loomed across the entire spiritual screen.
Chloe’s face drained of color as she instinctively stepped back.
“Shit, that Level 8 Black Snake King’s gone completely crazy!” Chloe blurted out.
“System, what happens if I drag someone else in here?” Chloe asked.
The System replied instantly, “Your spiritual space hasn’t upgraded yet, but since you’ve got a spiritual vein, you can bring anyone inside and let them stay for as long as you like.”
Chloe couldn’t help but grin at the System’s reply.
With a single thought, Chloe exited the spiritual space. The instant she appeared, a terrifying force pinned her in place, leaving her unable to move.
She could only stand there, helpless, as the earth shook violently outside. Countless people screamed, being slaughtered by mutant beasts, yet there was nothing she could do.
Even though Chloe was cold–hearted and indifferent, she didn’t want anyone to die because of her actions.

“Hiss,” The mutant serpent spat out its long tongue.
Chloe felt utterly powerless in front of that tongue, like a mosquito facing a frog, and she couldn’t even resist.

Just as Chloe was about to slip into the spiritual space, the sky suddenly filled with dark clouds, and a terrifying pressure blanketed everything.
It felt like the whole world was collapsing.
Chloe spun around just in time to see Noah wielding a lightning blade, hacking straight at the snake’s tongue.
With raw power, he chopped the tongue right in half.
The cheetah just let out a low growl.
It swiped at the Black Snake King’s weak spot with its sharp claws.
Unfortunately, it was no match for the snake, and the Black Snake King’s tail whipped out and sent the cheetah flying.
At the same time, Noah grabbed Chloe and soared outside. Suddenly, a pair of blue–violet lightning wings unfurled from his back.
“Hiss!” Behind them, the chilling sound of the snake’s tongue flicking sent shivers down their spines.
“Don’t look back,” Noah warned.
Noah held Chloe close in his arms.
The moment they jumped out of the cave, it was like the whole world flipped upside down, the ground trembling and mountains shaking.
Howling winds drove massive waves against Lakeside Island. A tsunami hundreds of feet high came crashing in, and the entire island looked ready to collapse at any second.
“Shit, the Level 8 Black Snake King’s gone berserk!” Chloe shouted.
Outside, most powered humans had no idea what was going on before they were swept away by the tsunami. In quick succession, saber–toothed sharks burst from the waves, devouring humans and mutant beasts alike.
In no time, the water was stained red with blood.
The moment Chloe stepped out, she was hit with a scene straight out of hell, her eyes widened in shock and fury, and she didn’t even care about the risk of exposing her spiritual space anymore.
She quickly swept every unconscious powered human she could find into her spiritual space.
Luckily, her spiritual space had already leveled up. Without her say–so, even if she brought people in, they couldn’t just
wander off.
Anyone she touched was instantly transported to a secluded valley hidden in the vast wilderness spanning thousands of miles within her spiritual space.
The humans were still reeling in shock. From inside the valley, they couldn’t see the outside world, and when they tried to leave, their hands bumped into a natural, invisible force field.
One by one, panic took over, and they felt like birds trapped in a cage, their fate completely in someone else’s hands.

Chloe didn’t bother with the details. She grabbed every human she could get her hands on and tossed them all into that valley.
Chloe watched as everyone else vanished, leaving only her and Noah behind. The crazed Black Snake King was right on their heels, its massive form closing in with terrifying speed.
Without hesitation, Chloe and Noah dove straight into the spiritual space.
A look of surprise flashed across Noah’s face as he took in the place for the first time.
“So this is your spiritual space?” Noah asked.
“Yep,” Chloe replied.
“Where are the others?” Noah asked, scanning the area for any sign of the survivors.
“I’ve placed them all in the valley inside my spiritual space. Don’t worry;” Chloe replied.
Noah nodded, appearing calm, but inside, his mind was in turmoil, just as wild as the tsunami outside.
When he saw the spiritual screen, Noah’s shock finally broke through his composure.
“Your spiritual space is incredible,” Noah said, awe clear in his voice.
On Lakeside Island, Chloe and Noah disappeared right in front of the Black Snake King, sending it into a frenzy. With a furious lash of its tail, a massive fissure tore open behind it, and more mutant beasts crawled out from the darkness.
The mutant beasts faced the Black Snake King with trembling fear, like insects before a giant.
Whatever command they’d received, they scattered in all directions, searching frantically.
In Riverside, the remaining powered humans were still scavenging for loot, and luck was definitely on their side. Since this place was right next to Lakeside and nobody had set foot here since the apocalypse, there was loads of good stuff to find.
They found piles of unopened bottled water, instant pasta, cookies, and canned food.
With everyone scoring some supplies, the rivalry between the powered humans wasn’t nearly as intense.
Everyone was so busy scavenging the ruins for food, nobody had the energy to plot against each other.
That night, everyone finally got to enjoy the most satisfying meal they’d had in ages. It was nothing like they’d experienced since the world ended.
And for once, there were hardly any raids or thefts during the night.
Just when everyone was finally starting to feel a glimmer of hope for the future, a series of thunderous explosions suddenly
echoed from the distance.
Everyone craned their necks, anxiously watching toward Lakeside, hoping for some sign of what was happening.
Emily pointed over. “Frank, looks like a massive fight broke out over there.”
Frank’s face was full of worry. “Can you sense Caden?”

Emily shook her head, disappointment clear in her eyes. “It’s too far. All I can see is a haze of blood.”
Emily looked genuinely scared as she spoke.
She was usually the calm one, so seeing her like this made everyone start to panic.
The powered humans in Riverside were startled awake by a deafening, terrifying noise.
“What the hell is happening over there?” someone yelled.
Another person, trembling from head to toe, whispered, “I think… I think it’s a massive tsunami.”
Everyone was nervously discussing it, and even from this distance, they could feel the ground shaking.
One of the braver ones came sprinting back from that direction, but halfway through, his legs turned to jelly and he collapsed face–first onto the ground.
The rest of the group crowded around him, shoving food and water at him, trying to help him recover.
“What’s going on in Lakeside?” someone yelled, panic in their voice.
“What did you see over there?” another person demanded, eyes wide.
The guy was trembling all over, and you could tell he’d wet himself.
“L–Lakeside… it’s gone! It’s just gone!” he blurted out, voice shaking.
