Blaze Haven was in need of people, so as long as they weren’t ruthless criminals, they could join up.
Along the way, the Blaze Squad kept growing. They started with just eight people, but now there were over a hundred.
Soon, night fell again, and just like before, everyone took turns standing guard through the night.
Each powered human on night watch had a drum hanging from their waist and a whistle between their lips, ready to alert the group the instant anything seemed suspicious.
They took a different route back than the one they came on, and the whole way was deserted. Even when they passed through small towns, there wasn’t anyone around.
They made it through several days without any trouble.
That was mainly because William’s army was so massive that even mutant beasts wouldn’t dare to ambush them.
Frank and Mindy took turns driving the Blaze Squad’s Base Truck, while Emily stayed in the passenger seat, keeping a close eye on everything around them.
Jagger and his crew hopped onto one of William’s military trucks.
Those trucks used to be packed with supplies and all kinds of weapons, but now that Chloe had her massive spiritual space to store everything, they had several trucks freed up.
Chloe was busy, always monitoring the activity of the energy flow inside her spiritual space.
It was a huge slab of glowing green stone, so vast that it could cover all of Lakeside. Its size made it obvious how much power was stored within.
“System, can this energy source let my spiritual space keep absorbing energy nonstop?” Chloe asked.
“Host, this energy source is huge, but it can’t be absorbed forever. Still, it’s definitely enough to upgrade your spiritual space all the way to Level 10,” the System replied.
‘Level 10? Chloe thought, “That’s insane. Even after ten years of the apocalypse, almost no one had ever reached that stage as a powered human.’
Chloe continued in her mind, “What kind of change will happen when my spiritual space hits Level 10?”
“It will turn into a whole new world,” the System answered.
Chloe was thrilled. She thought, ‘If my spiritual space really hits Level 10, could I actually keep humanity from being wiped
out in the future?‘
She could never forget how, ten years into the apocalypse in her previous life, there were almost no humans left anywhere.
Mutant beasts, mutant plants, and zombies had become the rulers of the world, while humanity was fading away, barely clinging to existence.
Women became increasingly rare, the birth rate plummeted, people turned on each other, and disease and disasters struck
one after another.
Thankfully, she still had a chance to stop it.

Chloe was never soft–hearted, yet she never wished humanity to vanish completely.

Right now, her spiritual space was only at Level 4, and she was holding off on upgrading it until they got back to Blaze
Haven.
She gazed at the 1.5 acres of land inside her spiritual space. The soil was unbelievably fertile, and all the fruits and vegetables were thriving wildly, overflowing with vitality.
It filled her with hope for the future.
The group of over five hundred people rolled across the crumbling concrete, nothing but barren wasteland stretching out on all sides.
The weather was sweltering, but with water–powered humans in the group and plenty of food to go around, the heat was
>earable.
Filip stared out at the barren wasteland, feeling worried.
Chloe, it’s only the first year of the apocalypse, and the weather is already terrible. Who knows what it will be like in ten or wenty years?” Filip said.
Chloe was surprised that Filip could think so deeply. She couldn’t help but smile wryly.
she said, “Maybe winter will just keep getting colder, and summer will keep getting hotter, until nothing survives anymore.”
she wasn’t exaggerating. In her previous life, she died in that frozen hell called Frost City, where the temperature dropped o at least -112 F. She still remembered it like it was yesterday.
As soon as Chloe finished speaking, a heavy silence settled over the group.
Suddenly, Emily said, “Chloe, there’s a town up ahead. Looks like there are still people alive in there.”
As she spoke, her expression suddenly shifted. “There are so many zombies. They’ve surrounded the whole town. Should we ake a detour?”
Emily grabbed her walkie–talkie and relayed the same message to William.
William replied right away, “Looks like there’s no way around. What level are those zombies?”
They’re not high–level, but there are a ton of them, at least five thousand,” Emily said.
‘Captain Yates, what do you think?” William asked.
Chloe paused for a moment before saying, “Let’s see if we can find another way. If not, we’ll just fight our way through.”
The convoy stopped, and Chloe had Phantom scan the area with her spirit power.
“If we take that small road up ahead, there’s a highway about 3 miles away,” Phantom said.
“Alright, let’s head for the highway,” Chloe replied.
Right now, their only goal was to get back to base as quickly as possible, without getting caught up in any more trouble,
However, just as they were about to turn onto the small road, Emily’s face went pale. “Shit, we’re surrounded by mutant
beasts.”

From underground, countless centipedes, each as thick and long as 20 inches, surged out of their tunnels, drawn by the scent of humans. They poured out in waves, relentless and hungry for flesh.
At the same time, fat green caterpillars the size of a human hand began squirming out from the bushes, adding to the nightmare.
Chloe’s gaze grew sharp and resolute.
These green caterpillars used to be everywhere in the town before the apocalypse, their bodies covered in countless sharp spines.
Getting stabbed by those spines was pure agony.
She’d been pricked by one before, and she still remembered exactly how it felt.
It was clear that these caterpillars had mutated, and their poison was even more dangerous.
Up ahead, William had his troops fully assembled, ready for action. With a commanding gesture, he signaled them to move out. “All fire–powered humans, attack.”
When it came to wiping out massive swarms of mutant creatures like these, fire was always the go–to solution.
Mindy stood on top of the Base Truck, blasting fire down into the swarm. The mutant caterpillars were torn apart, a huge gap opening up in their ranks as the flames ripped through them.
Crackling sounds echoed nearby, the air thick with the scent of burning protein.
The smell was intense, making mouths water. Someone grabbed one and started slowly chewing.
“Hey, this tastes great.”
“Seriously? Are these things edible?”
Some copied him. They grabbed a caterpillar, put it in their mouths, and their eyes widened in surprise.
To them, food was either edible or not. As long as it wasn’t poisonous, they could overcome their disgust.
Chloe couldn’t believe what she was seeing and rushed over to stop the crowd before things got out of hand.
She threw open the window and yelled, “Stop. Nobody cats that.”
After a beat, she added, “Those caterpillars are packed with venom. Burning them doesn’t get rid of all the poison. If you’re not afraid of death, help yourself”
Just then, the first guy who’d eaten a caterpillar doubled over, clutching his stomach and rolling around on the ground, his face contorted in pain.
He yelled, “Damn, it hurts so badly.”
Chloe quickly gave orders. “Fire–powered humans, get ready. Burn those mutant caterpillars Where’s the doctor? Hurry up and help him.”
The whole place erupted into chaos.
Luckily, their numbers were strong, and all the powered humans capable of operating in Lakeside were high–level elites.

After Chloe finished detoxing them, she kicked them hard. She growled at them, her tone fierce. “Now you learned your
