Production at Blaze Haven had resumed, but the biggest shortage now was manpower.

“Thank you. We’ll work hard, the survivors said in unison.

The survivors‘ eyes were filled with gratitude toward Chloe and hope for the future.

Feeling uneasy, they climbed into the trucks.

They thought, ‘If they’re giving out something as precious as bread, we must’ve come to the right place.‘

They still had no clue what Blaze Haven was really like. They just figured the base chief was trying to win them over. But once they actually set foot inside, they were in for a real shock.

The survivors split up and climbed into three military trucks, spreading out to avoid overcrowding.

As the trucks slowly rolled into Grovenwich, everyone immediately sensed something was off.

Everywhere they looked outside, the land was barren. Most plants had withered and died under the relentless sun, and the ground was nothing but sand.

But Grovenwich was a whole different story. The plants were still lush and thriving, even taller and more robust than before, like a dense, deep forest.

The trees and ground were covered in moss, and all kinds of weeds, fallen leaves, and saplings were everywhere.

There wasn’t a single trace of human activity throughout the woods.

On high alert, Chloe asked the system.

“System, is everything okay at Blaze Haven?” she asked.

System: [Ding. Can’t detect anything.]

Chloe’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Didn’t you build Blaze Haven? How can you not know what’s going on inside?”

System: [Ding. Blaze Haven was a reward for the Host. It’s out of my control now, so I can’t access it anymore.]

Chloe shrugged. Well, nothing I can do about it, she thought.

She turned to the group behind her and said, “Guys, stay sharp as we head inside,”

With ten years of apocalypse survival under her belt, Chloe’s senses for danger were razor–sharp.

The further they went, the more tense and uneasy their faces grew

Up ahead, the concrete road was scarred with deep tire marks from heavy trucks.

The bushes around them looked as if a crowd had trampled through, all battered and broken..

Along the way, they spotted plenty of rotting zombie corpses and the bones of mutated beasts.

The green moss was covered in tire marks and scattered with footprints everywhere.

Frank bent down and measured the footprints with his hand. Looks like these were all left by adult men.”

His expression turned grim. “And there are a ton of tracks from wild animals, too.”

Emily’s eyes widened. “Wait, did someone hijack our base?”

A big golden dog came running over and shifted into human form right next to Chloe.

He twitched his nose and said, “Hey, Chloe, there are a lot of unfamiliar scents here, and some predators, too. Looks like they’re all heading that way

Looking where he pointed, they realized the road ended right at Blaze Haven.

“Let’s go,” Chloe said.

At Blaze Haven, in the conference room Chloe used for meetings, a dozen unfamiliar powered humans had suddenly appeared, taking over the place.

They were all big and muscular, each with several naked women clinging to them.

On the floor, a dozen people were bound hand and foot, their faces twisted with rage as they glared up at the dominant

group.

These were the people led by Clayton.

Clayton yelled, his voice raw with fury, “You bastards, let them go, now!

He fought against the ropes with everything he had, but no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn’t break free.

At the head of the table sat Snake Man, so gaunt his eyes were sunken, his skin ghostly pale, as if a corpse that hadn’t seen sunlight in ages.

Snake Man sneered, “These ropes are made from the hide of a level–five mutant beast. Save your strength. You’re not getting

out.”

He fiddled with an emerald ring, his voice cold as hell.

“Out with it. How the hell are you growing crops in this heat? Where did you get the seeds? And where’s your warehouse?” he demanded.

With all this stuff, he was sure there’s gotta be more they were hiding from him.

Clayton’s eyes blazed with fury as he spat right at them.

“Damn you! Go ahead, kill me. I won’t tell you a single thing,” Clayton spat defiantly.

“Oh, is that so?” Snake Man said, his voice icy.

He slowly hooked his finger under the chin of the girl next to him. “Is she your girlfriend?”

Clayton lost it, thrashing against the ropes with all his strength. “Don’t touch her, you bastard! You’re dead meat!”

Yvonne was so terrified that her beautiful face went pale, and she shook uncontrollably.

Chapter 296

As a pair of cold hands slid across her cheek, she suddenly lunged forward and bit down hard.

Snake Man hissed in pain.

He tried to yank his hand back, but Yvonne wouldn’t let go, ripping off a bloody chunk of flesh and skin.

Smack! Snake Man slapped Yvonne brutally, sending her crashing to the floor. Her mouth filled with blood, her front tooth knocked loose and falling out.

Yvonne!” Clayton cried out, his voice raw with pain.

Everyone else, still tied up, their eyes burned with fury, veins bulging in rage.

You filthy animals! We took you in out of kindness, never realizing you had nothing but evil intentions. You’ll pay for this!” Clayton spat.

The group burst out laughing, as if someone just cracked the biggest joke ever.

Retribution? Hah! It’s the damn apocalypse. Who the hell gives a damn about karma now?” one of them sneered.

Suddenly, a thunderbolt split the sky, frying the hair of the man, who just spoken, to a crisp. The air instantly reeked of urnt hair and flesh.

Dan’s face twisted with hatred. “You bastards! You’re nothing but monsters!”

nake Man turned his icy gaze toward her. “Well, looks like I almost forgot about you, woman. Hey, you, bring that baby out, ight now!”

Dan’s face drained of color in terror. She struggled frantically against the ropes, her voice raw and hoarse.

What are you trying to do? No! Please, don’t!” she cried out.

before long, a plump little baby was carried over, his pudgy hands clawing at the guy holding him.

He babbled away, acting all tough in that adorable baby way.

inake Man took the baby and placed him right on the table in front of him.

The baby seemed to sense the danger, suddenly bursting into tears and scrambling away as fast as he could.

But the baby was way too weak, and Snake Man just pinned him down with one big hand, keeping him right where he was.

Tell me your base’s secrets, or I’ll drop him to his death right now,” Snake Man threatened, his voice cold as ice.

oan shook her head desperately. “There are no secrets in Blaze Haven! Please, don’t hurt my baby!”

Oh? Is that so?” Snake Man sneered.

Somehow, a dagger appeared in Snake Man’s hand, and he drew it across the baby’s arm, cutting it open,

The baby wailed in pain, bursting into loud cries,

Snake Man suddenly let out a chilling laugh. “I really hate kids. Tell me, if I torture him to death, slowly, wouldn’t that feel amazing?

He slashed the dagger across the baby’s bottom again, and Joan broke down, wailing in despair. Everyone shot Snake Man

Next to Snake Man sat a scruffy, balding guy with a patchy beard. When he spotted Molly, his eyes lit up.

“Boss, this little girl is really cute. Mind if I take her?” he said, leering with a creepy grin.

Snake Man loved torturing animals and people, while this guy was all about preying on women, especially young girls.

“Fine, she is yours,” Snake Man replied with a cold smirk.
