Dark Queen Of Apocalypse (Chloe) novel Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Everyone scrambled up to the seventh floor in panic, but the spiders kept pouring in behind them.

They were everywhere on the floors and the walls. Chloe’s skin crawled as she followed the others to the eighth floor.

The seventh floor was a vast mall, stocked with meat and all kinds of food. For now, the spiders hadn’t started/climbing up.

By the time they reached the eighth floor, a dozen powered humans slumped to the floor, utterly spent and/trembling.

“Thank god there’s food on the seventh floor, or we’d be dead meat,” Damir said, his face still haunted.

Chloe couldn’t help but dampen their relief. “I’m afraid the food on the seventh floor won’t last us long

Emily looked anxious and doubtful. “Chloe, don’t you think these spiders are treating us like livestock? Keeping us here for food?”

Everyone held their breath and stared at her.

She flinched. “I just feel like we’re chickens in a coop…”

As soon as she said it, everyone’s faces went ghostly pale.

A raw, terrified scream echoed from above, so sharp that it cut through the building.

“What’s happening up there?” someone blurted.

Everyone glanced upward, faces pale with fear, but no one dared to check.

Caden said seriously, “We need to talk about our next move.”

When it came to fighting this endless swarm, only fire attacks were effective. But Mindy’s fire power was so weak that it couldn’t sustain it for even a minute.

“I still say fire is our best bet, like before. Nothing else works,” Damir said.

Abdiel frowned, “B-but, we’re out of fuel.”

Everyone fell silent, deep in thought. There was plenty of cooking oil on the seventh floor, but the spiders had taken over and no one dared go back down.

Chloe glanced around and said slowly, “Fine. I’ll risk going down for the oil, but you’ll have to give me some of your cores in

return.”

Some powered humans protested, “No way. Why should you get our cores when we’re all risking our lives?

“Chloe shrugged. “Suit yourselves. I guess we’ll all die here then.”

Caden and Damir stayed quiet.

“Give us a minute to think,” someone muttered.

Just the commotion erupted from the seventh floor. The spider swarm, no longer satisfied with the food below, began creeping up toward the eighth floor in scattered waves.

At first, there weren’t many, and everyone stomped or blasted them, barely holding the line.

But as time passed, more spiders grew dissatisfied with the leftovers and launched another assault on the humans.

“Chloe, we agree. Get down there and get the oil now.” Damir yelled.

Emily shot Damir a venomous look, backing away as she muttered curses under her breath.

“You’ve got some nerve. The spiders are already here. Are you trying to get Chloe killed?” she snapped.

Chloe also muttered, “It’s too late.”

A second later, the seventh floor was overrun. A seething, writhing carpet of spiders covered everything. Nothing could have survived beneath that tide.

A single spider was nothing. But thousands, pouring in without end was a nightmare.

Chloe wasn’t sure she’d make it out alive. Before, the spiders had been fewer, mostly distracted by the bait. She hadn’t been the primary target.

That wouldn’t work anymore.

“Move. Upstairs now,” Chloe shouted.

A straggler was instantly engulfed by the swarm. In seconds, only a pile of clean-picked bones remained.

Terrified screams ripped through the air.

Chloe checked her watch. It was just past nine.

There was still three hours until midnight. When the blue moon rose, every zombie and mutated insect would crash into a dead stupor.

It was the only safe night in the apocalypse.

If they could survive these three hours, they would live.

She had painstakingly stored two precious hours in her spiritual space. The moment Emily stepped inside, that hard-won time was wiped out in a second.

Now she had barely an hour left. But she couldn’t bring herself

They

finally scrambled onto the twelfth floor and froze.

No one was alive. Only heaps of bones and swarms of basketball-sized spiders. And in the center, looming over it all, was the Spider King. Six feet tall, it fixed them with a chilling, knowing stare, as if it had been expecting them.

“What do we do? What do we do now?” Someone broke down completely, sobbing and laughing in hysterical despair.

Others just gave up, not even raising their weapons.

“Help… a weak whimper came from deep within the nest. The voice was faint, ghostly. Whoever it was, they wouldn’t last long..

But backed by this endless swarm, Chloe and her group didn’t stand a chance. Survival was a fantasy.

Yet, the spiders only circled, holding back. The Spider King observed the terrified humans with a cold, almost curious detachment.

‘Are we just toys in some sick game?’ Chloe thought.

Seizing the moment, she summoned a whirlwind before her. Countless ice blades spun forward, slicing through the advancing spiders, shredding them to pieces. Limbs and carapaces flew.
