With only that money, they still had to keep the company running and cover development costs. Life had always been tight.

Now they had to spend 15 million dollars at once and wait a whole month. If that guy were standing here, Kaleb would flick his cigarette at his face.

Emmett snorted. “That 15 million dollars was already after I bargained. He asked for 20 million dollars at first.”

Kaleb clenched his teeth, furious. He took another hard drag, and for the first time, a wave of hopelessness washed over him.

Since the day he started his company, he had never backed down. No matter how tough the challenge, he always pushed forward with everything he had.

Whether it was youthful pride or the need to prove himself, he simply refused to lose.

Now the technical problem was right in front of him. No money. No people. And Ayla, who only knew how to stir up trouble.

The two young founders looked at each other and both felt like losers hiding in a corner, smoking to calm their nerves.

Pathetic and unlucky.

At least Kaleb got to beat Zane yesterday. Otherwise he would feel even worse.

Emmett finally broke. “Kaleb, how about you tell Ayla to go apologize to Troy and smooth things over … ”

Kaleb sneered. “Some sister. Her own brother stabs her in the back.”

“Kaleb, you think you’re some perfect brother? You treat her terribly.”

“At least I don’t stab her.”

“I don’t care. I heard it, so that’s what it is.”

“You’re impossible!”

Emmett stormed off to find Ayla, only to discover the entire tech department drinking latte and eating late- night snacks.

“We thought she’d be just as hard to deal with as Mr. Keaton. Turns out she’s amazing. Calm. Generous.

Someone joked, “With a brother like Mr. Keaton, if she didn’t have a good temper, she’d die young.”

Emmett nodded. “True.” He asked, “How’s it going?”

“No idea. She said she only needed one person helping her”

“I don’t get it. Forget building a repair model. Even with a ready–made one, pulling and parsing the company’s data should take forever!”

Emmett sighed.

His tiny spark of hope vanished completely.

He slapped the team lead on the arm. “Then go think of a solution!”

Ayla came out with her laptop. The tech team stared at her with bright, excited eyes.

Latte and snacks really worked wonders.

“The database is restarting,” Ayla said. “Nothing else needs doing. You can all go home.”

She had a firewall to build, so she left the confused crowd behind and went to find Kaleb.

His office was full of smoke.

Ayla hated the smell. She frowned. “Stop smoking.”

Kaleb shot her a look and deliberately lit another cigarette. “Done showing off?”

Ayla knew he was impossible and didn’t get angry. “Showing off? I’m helping you.”

“Helping me? Who asked you? If you’re done being ‘busy,‘ then leave. Stop getting on my
