Chapter 172 A Complicated Night
James finally understood what she meant. He chuckled, So what does loosen up look like?”
Ayla pointed at herself. “Like this.”
She leaned closer and let Casey feed her a drink.
James felt the scene stung his eyes.

But honestly, this was exactly why he had liked Ayla in the first place. She had a strong personality, and tonight she was showing it.
“No way,” he said. “I still need to call a few friends over.”
Ayla grabbed his phone with one hand. “If too many people show up, I’m leaving.”
James was about to argue when his screen lit up with a call from Max.
Ayla saw it too.
Max was a man with sharp taste and a perfect sense of style. The fact that James had saved his name with an annoying little note beside it was already enough to make Max dislike him.
And honestly, Ayla thought James was getting more and more ridiculous by the day.
The more someone disliked him, the more he poked at them.
James stared at the caller ID. “Wow. I can’t believe my eyes.”
He picked up. “What’s up? Miss me already?”
Max nearly smashed his phone. “You came to Trensea. My mom told me to check on you.”
James never questioned a thing. “Your mom still cares about me. Well, I’m at a bar. Come over.”
Ayla finally understood.
Max didn’t care about James’s party. He was here because his mother sent him.
James hung up and asked, “You don’t mind, right?”
Ayla said, “If too many people show up, I’m leaving.”
“Okay, okay. Just him. I won’t call anyone else.” James sad that, but he still couldn’t help pulling some trick.
He opened his group chat.
Draven was in that group too.
James wrote, “Ayla refused to come to the amazing sing–party I planned for her!”
Will commented, “She definitely knows you’re up to no good.”
James shot back, “Up to no good?! I even invited my friends from the entertainment industry. They’re all handsome and single. She’s wasting resources!”

Herman–who never talked unless there was gossip–finally showed up. “Even with all that, you still couldn’t convince her? Useless.”
James protested, “She doesn’t like the guys I pick, okay?”
Will jabbed, “Ayla doesn’t care about men.”
Just like his boss doesn’t care about women.
James continued, “If she truly didn’t care about men, I’d have no frustration. But she DOES!”
Herman replied, “Oh?”
Will was curious. “Huh?”
James reported, “She’s drinking with her best friend. They ordered several male escorts and are doing couple shots.”
Will doesn’t believe him. “You’re making that up.”
James argued, “Do I look like I have time to lie to you?”
He stopped there, then looked back at Ayla. “I want to post something on Instagram. How about I show a blurry side shot of you? What do you think?”
Ayla had seen his Instagram before.
James was good at taking photos–people, objects, anything. Everyone in his circle was rich, polished, and good–looking. Scrolling through his feed felt like stepping into a world drenched in luxury and excess.
“Sure,” Ayla said.
James snapped a few shots, then showed them to her.
Her face wasn’t visible–just her side profile. Casey was in the frame too, but his face wasn’t clear.
James really did know how to take a picture. With the warm bar lighting and the cozy atmosphere, none of
the shots were bad.
Ayla picked the one with the strongest vibe. James posted it on Instagram.
The first like came from Max.
Then he left a comment, “What is this?”
Right after commenting, he unliked the post.
James went ahead and messaged him anyway. “Where are you?”
Max didn’t reply. He didn’t want to.
Then Troy called him. “Where are you? I’m coming ove Let’s get a drink.”
After Troy went home, he locked the divorce certificate his safe.

He handled a few work matters, but once he had nothing to do, the bad mood hit him again. And just like always, he looked for Max first.
Max, meanwhile, was already furious thanks to James’s stagram post. He expected trouble. Nothing good ever comes from James’s single parties.
But he didn’t expect Ayla to adapt so well.
If Ayla had been the type who knew how to have fun, she would’ve fit into their social circle long ago.
So clearly, this was James’s influence.
And Max was jealous. Angry with Ayla, angry with James and angry with himself. So, out of spite, he decided to make Troy suffer too. Max said, “Sure. Come over.”
Max’s jealousy came from Ayla being with another guy.
Troy’s anger came from Ayla being with another guy.
Different reasons. Same storm.
But as soon as Max hung up, he regretted it. Ayla didn’t want to see Troy. If Max brought him here, she would hate it.
So Max hurried to book a private room at the bar. He planned to slip out later and check on Ayla to see what exactly was going on.
It didn’t take long before Troy arrived.
He didn’t say a word. He just drank. Sip after sip. Heavy tense, quiet.
His stomach hurt a little. He frowned, then drank again.
Max noticed and finally couldn’t take it anymore. “Your stomach’s bad. Why are you drinking like this?”
Troy’s hand froze on the glass.
He couldn’t help thinking of Ayla, how she used to make warm lemon tea for him, and how she used to pack stomach–soothing lunches for him the next day.
He had to admit it. Ayla had taken really good care of him.
