Howard sensed the awkward mood. “What’s wrong?”

Troy said calmly, “I’m divorced.”

Howard blinked. “Oh… sorry.”

“It’s nothing,” Troy replied, completely unfazed.

Skyla took a closer look. He really didn’t care. She relaxed.

Of course, he still wasn’t wearing the matching couple ring they once had.

But that didn’t matter.

Ayla had gone to many dinners with him before. Usually, at those tables, everyone tried to please Draven. He never cared about anyone’s feelings, and the mood was always tense.

But tonight wasn’t like that.

Ayla understood why–he was deliberately being cooperative, even considerate.

Only people who knew him well would know how rare that was. And yet Kaleb still kept throwing in little sarcastic comments. He was behaving better than usual tonight, but Ayla still glared at him several times.

Kaleb felt her deadly stare and nearly exploded. He already hated having to “please” Draven. And now, even Ayla wanted him to behave?

No way.

He lost control and suddenly tapped his spoon against his glass.

Everyone turned to look at him.

Kaleb leaned back in his chair, his arm resting on the table, looking arrogant as he said, “Mr. Storm, you’re the CEO. Isn’t it a bit too grand for you to show up here in person tonight? I mean, I’m honored. I just wasn’t prepared. I’m scared I might not host you well enough.”

Halle looked at Ayla with sympathy.

Thank God Kaleb wasn’t her brother.

Ayla caught Halle’s look and suddenly felt exhausted.

Emmett thought Kaleb must have lost his mind.

The guy usually had a temper, but he wasn’t someone who didn’t know timing.

And tonight Draven was here. Kaleb should have been on his best behavior.

Instead, Kaleb was acting like he’d been electrocuted–completely unstable.

Emmett’s heart was racing. Thanks to Kaleb, it was probably up to 130 beats per minute by now.

Draven, even after being openly challenged, stayed cool. He even offered Kaleb an easy solution. “I’m not stopping you from trying to impress me,” Draven said.

That made Kaleb even angrier. Only Draven knew exactly why Kaleb was picking a fight. And he still pretended he didn’t know anything.

For the first time, Kaleb understood what a silent blow felt like.

His mind spun fast. After two seconds, he snapped back with, “You’re so high–class. Who knows what

you like? Forget it!”

Halle wanted to smooth things over, but Kaleb’s mouth was just too reckless. She didn’t even know what to say.

Ayla, however, was already used to it.

Emmett almost fainted.

Draven let out a soft laugh. “Ayla knows me. Let her handle it.”

Ayla wasn’t going to let Kaleb keep digging the hole deeper. She immediately said, “Mr. Storm, I’ll make sure the gift gets delivered.”

Draven nodded. “Good.”

The shift in mood was so fast that Kaleb had barely processed it. When he finally realized that Draven and Ayla had just formed an agreement, he almost jumped out of his chair.

Draven was too much.

Kaleb wanted to cause trouble, but somehow he had helped Draven instead–and now he couldn’t take it back.

He hadn’t suffered a loss in a long time, but tonight he took a big one.

Halle sighed. “Kaleb, thank Ayla. She’s helped you so many times.”
