Troy knew he had made her unhappy again, and there was nothing he could do about it.

He was unhappy himself.

Troy placed his phone on the table and pushed it toward Ayla. He looked straight into her eyes, just like in the past, completely ignoring her feelings. “The day after tomorrow is Grandpa’s birthday party. I’ll give you one day to think it through, Ayla. I really want to keep living with you this time. You know how hard it is for me to lower my head even once. You’d better take this chance and not disappoint me.”

Ayla wanted to tell Troy right then and there that she was already with Draven, just to cut off his hopes.

But Troy would lose his mind.

Ayla planned to stand beside Troy on Martin’s birthday and announce the divorce publicly in front of everyone.

Troy cared about the Winstons’ opinion. Making the announcement in person would hit him where it mattered.

With all the Winstons present, it would be the perfect occasion. Ayla wanted to make sure nothing went wrong.

Ayla looked at him. “Alright.”

Troy suddenly felt much more at ease. “I already had the clothes and gifts sent to your company. Remember to pick them up.”

Ayla nodded. “Okay.”

Seeing how obedient Ayla was, Troy couldn’t shake the feeling that she was pretending. “You’re not fooling me, are you?”

Ayla smiled and said, “Isn’t this what you want, for me to listen to you? Now that I’m listening, you’re still not satisfied?”

Troy’s face tightened. “You weren’t like this before.”

Ayla replied, “Then how do you want me to act? Not listen to you? That’s fine. If you think that’s what you want, then I won’t listen.”

Troy was so angry his head spun. He clenched his teeth and glared at her.

He endured it again and again, forcing the emotion down.

Then he pulled a ring box out of his pocket and handed it to Ayla, saying coldly, “This is a new pair of rings I bought. Remember to wear it when the time comes.”

Ayla glanced at Troy’s bare fingers. She didn’t move.

Troy asked, “You’re not even going to look at it?”

Ayla answered, “I haven’t made up my mind yet.

In Troy’s plan, Ayla would agree without hesitation to continue living with him.

Letting her think it over was something he said only because he had no choice. He never expected her to actually take it seriously.

Because there would only be one outcome in the end, her remarrying him.

There was nothing else to consider.

Spending one whole day on this had no meaning.

After all, she was going to attend Martin’s birthday party with him anyway.

Ayla pushed the ring back toward him. “We’ll talk about it on Grandpa’s birthday.”

Her expression was calm, with a cold edge to it.

Troy had come all this way today, even swallowing his pride and lowering himself to coax Ayla back, and it still hadn’t worked.

He stared at the diamond ring she pushed back, his gaze dark and gloomy.

What Troy wanted was an obedient Ayla, the woman who catered to him in every way. The Ayla who went against him now and defied his commands was someone he didn’t like at all.

But he knew Ayla was still angry with him. As long as he gave her time, she would return to being the woman who once had only him in her heart and eyes.

Troy was glad he had figured out what he wanted. Otherwise, Ayla’s attitude might have already set him off. As long as he stayed patient and waited until she remarried him, he could put on a show afterward. Ayla wouldn’t leave him again.

Troy put the ring away and looked at her distant brows and eyes. “Fine. I’ll give you one day.”

Out of the corner of her eye, Ayla saw a message pop up on her phone. It was from Draven. She didn’t check it and instead looked at Troy.

Before this, she had always seen him through rose-colored glasses. No matter what he did, he seemed good. Just being by his side made her feel happy and fulfilled.

Now the filter was gone. All she could see was Troy’s arrogance and coldness. He claimed he was lowering himself to ask for a remarriage, bu he never truly did. It felt more like charity. He even admitted that what he wanted was her care and consideration, not regret or love.

People who tried to get back together usually did it because they still have feelings for each other.

Ayla truly admired Troy for this. If it were anyone else lowering their head, they would at least put on a show.

Troy scoffed at acting. Either she wasn’t worth the effort, or as he said, simply proposing remarriage was already a massive concession for him.

And that was it.

There was no sincerity at all.

His proposal felt like something tossed out to appease a beggar.

It wouldn’t even work to win back a friend, let alone a marriage.

Aside from arrogance, self-importance, and entitlement, Ayla didn’t see anything else.

At least Troy didn’t bother pretending, which made things clear for her.

She knew Troy too well when it came to how he behaved with her. The fact that he hadn’t lost his temper today surprised her.

Troy had changed a little, but what was rooted deep inside him would never change.

Besides, Ayla no longer wanted anything from him. Even if he completely turned into a different person, no longer selfish or cold, it had nothing to do with her.

Her attention had long since shifted away from im.

Troy was no longer important.

From now on, career, family ties, friendships, wealth, and honor were what Ayla valued. As for love, after going through it once, she knew it wasn’t anything worth clinging to.
