“It’s hard to put into words. I won’t let you meet her alone. If you want to go, you don’t need to worry about anything-just sit quietly.” He wasn’t going to let Ayla trouble herself with these matters.
Hearing the words “hard to put into words,” Ayla was even more surprised. While feeling worried, she was also curious.
But Draven’s take-charge attitude was like a reassurance pill. She was not afraid at all. It was the kind of security that only a reliable, steadfast presence could give.
Ayla nodded. “Alright, then let’s go.”
Draven frowned instead. “You really want to go?
Ayla replied, “Didn’t you ask me to pretend to be your girlfriend just to put on a show for your mother? Why are you stopping me now?” She smiled as she asked, “If I don’t do anything at all, wouldn’t I just be taking advantage of you for nothing? Seeing your mother tomorrow, Martin’s birthday the day after-it all lines up perfectly.”
Draven wanted to say something else, probably to complain about his mother. However, Ayla urged him to hurry up and drive, because the light had turned green.
After returning home, Meryll had already prepared a sumptuous dinner. Ayla and Draven ate together. Afterward, they rested for a bit. Ayla went to work out in the gym, while Draven returned to his own place.
If he had not showered yet and still had work, Daven would go back to his own home.
Ayla went to work.
On the four large screens on her desk, one showed the surveillance feed. At around a little past nine, Draven came back.
Ayla immediately came out of the study and brought out the sundae she had prepared earlier-two cups in total.
Draven saw Ayla.
“Go sit on the couch.”
Draven sat down. Ayla carried the matching couple glass cups over. There were more and more couple items in the house now.

“I made you a sundae.” Ayla looked at him, her expression carrying a hint of anticipation. “Try it.”
Draven was surprised. “Why did you make this for me?”
“Just try it first.”
Draven picked up his glass and ate a mouthful. The texture of the whipped cream was very smooth, and the sweetness was just right. The chocolate sprinkles made it even better. Even without any bias, it tasted excellent. He looked at Ayla, his gaze deep. “When did you make this? How come I didn’t know?”
“When you went next door,” Ayla said.
Draven asked again, “You made this specially for me?”
Ayla nodded. “Yes. Do you like it?”
Draven said, “I like it very much.” But he wanted to know more. “You’ve never made things like this before.”
Ayla smiled. “I noticed that after you met your mother, you seemed a bit unhappy. This is for you.”
An impulse rose in Draven to pull her fiercely into his arms.
Draven did not actually need comfort, just as he could not empathize with Casey.
He was indifferent about himself and Kayla.
But he was moved by Ayla’s actions.
She had carefully noticed his emotions and, while he was away, made the dessert.
Just this thoughtfulness made Draven feel that he was being cared about.
That feeling was wonderful.
So wonderful that Draven almost could not restin his feelings for Ayla. He had fallen for her unilaterally, and the more time they spent together, the deeper that feeling grew.
Draven wanted to hold her. Measuring with his eyes, he knew that with one hand, he could wrap around her slender waist, pull her tightly into his arms, and then do things he wanted
to do.
She did not even know how dangerous he was at this moment, how base his thoughts were…

All of it had been drawn out by her small gesture, pushing him to the brink of losing control.
Restraint was difficult. Sometimes, Draven would rather Ayla treat him coldly.
Yet, he could not bear to lose the way she looked at him.
Draven subconsciously tightened his grip on the cup. “How did
you notice?”
He had always concealed his emotions well.
Ayla said, “I didn’t really notice anything specific I just felt that you were a bit off today. Maybe when your mother was mentioned, you were a little impatient, even somewhat
resistant.”
Draven’s gaze deepened further. “That’s how you could tell?”
Ayla asked, “Was I wrong?”
Draven truly did not want to discuss emotions with anyone since they were not important. “I don’t know. Maybe.”
“Then just finish this,” Ayla said. After speaking, she picked up her spoon and ate some. The taste really was good; she liked it a lot.
All her cooking skills had been learned while taking care of Troy, which now made her feel disgusted, always reminding her of pleasing others-something Ayla disliked very much.
But tonight was an exception. She was comforting someone, with no intention of pleasing at all.
Draven really liked the sense of propriety Ayla showed at this moment. She did not ask more questions; she simply kept him company while eating dessert together. His heart felt as if it were wrapped in a warm current. He said, “I don’t care about those things.”
Ayla nodded and smiled at him. “I know.”
“Thank you.”
The warmth in Draven’s gaze took Ayla by surprise. She had guessed his feelings, but it was only a guess-there was no way to confirm it. And she did not want to turn that guess into reality.
