Chapter 341 The Difference Between Caring and Not Caring

Ayla had too many things to handle right now and hadn’t allocated any time to her emotional life.

If Draven truly had romantic feelings for her, she had no way to respond to them.

Ayla genuinely treated Draven as a friend. She cared about her friends and looked after them. She valued relationships deeply, and if she were to reject him directly, it would hurt him, so she currently didn’t quite know how to interact with Draven.

Fortunately, all of this may just be overthinking.

Then she will simply pretend she does not know and interact with him the same way as usual.

Ayla said, “Because we’re friends. If I saw James unhappy, I would make a sundae for him too. It’s just that James is very good at keeping himself busy and doesn’t really have time to be

sad.”

Draven froze. It was as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over his head, instantly sobering him up.

Ayla took a few more bites and looked at him. “You should rest early.”

Draven gave a low “Mm,” then nodded.

When Ayla got home, she put her bag on the couch. The bag only contained daily necessities. so she hadn’t taken it back to the study.

She was just about to take it inside when Draven suddenly reached out a hand.

Ayla looked at him and saw Draven take out a greeting card from the side of the bag.

The card was from Troy today. There had been too many things going on in the afternoon, and somehow it had ended up in her bag. It should have been in the trash can.

When Draven saw the words on it, his expression remained calm, but a sudden chill surged in his eyes, which he forcibly suppressed.

His lips pressed tightly together as he tore it up without hesitation.

He did not even give Ayla time to speak. All the fragments of the card were thrown into the

trash can.

“You shouldn’t keep things like this,” Draven said looking at the card as if it were a virus.

Ayla replied, “I thought I had already thrown it away.”

Only after Draven was certain that there was not the slightest trace of reluctance on Ayla’s face did he feel slightly reassured. He stood up as well, lowered his head to look at her, and said, “Let’s go see Kayla tomorrow night at seven

Ayla blinked.

Draven stopped pretending and directly called his mother by her name.

Mentioning this made her a little nervous. “Do I need to prepare anything?”

Draven said, “I’ll explain everything clearly to her, including how we fell in love.” He looked at her with an unreadable gaze. “I secretly loved you for a full three years. Only after my wish finally came true did I get together with you.”

Ayla was bewitched by his voice.

“This is the backstory we planned,” Draven said. “Do you remember?”

Ayla came back to her senses. “I remember.”

“Do you still remember your reason?”

“After the divorce, I wanted to find a backer, and you’re too handsome, so I couldn’t refuse.”

“So you’re after everything I have?”

Ayla nodded. “Yes, I’m after everything. In this relationship, I’m a purely self-interested woman, and you’re willing to let me take advantage of you. If you weren’t willing, the relationship wouldn’t exist.”

Draven looked at her. “Right. I’m willing. I’m the one pursuing you.”

Ayla was struck again by Draven’s serious expression. Her heart was beating very fast.

Uncontrollably fast.

She felt that Draven was getting too deep into the act, so how could she possibly tell what was real and what was fake?

Moreover, his carnest gaze was like a whirlpool, capable of pulling people in.

Ayla felt even her breathing grow lighter. Her tone was slightly faster than usual as she said, “Alright, it’s clear. I hope nothing slips up tomorrow. I’m going back to work. You should rest early too.”

After saying that, Ayla left.

Draven watched her retreating figure, as if she were fleeing in panic. He was slightly surprised. Normally, when talking about these things, Ayla would have a look of “I’ll cooperate properly and make our act as real as possible,” completely free of stray thoughts. Why did she seem a bit off today?

Was he overthinking, or did Ayla truly have nothing more she wanted to say to him?

Draven was not entirely sure. He lowered his head to look at the fragments in the trash can, his gaze filled with coldness and jealousy.

How could that greeting card have ended up in her bag by accident?

He knew Ayla wanted to keep it.

Just a slight gesture of goodwill from Troy was enough to stay on Ayla’s mind.

Draven understood exactly how great the difference was between loving and not loving someone, just like Ayla and Melody.

Melody was merely his brother’s younger sister, like a stranger, not worth paying attention to.

But he paid attention to Ayla’s every move. That was the difference between caring and not caring.

Ayla brought the card home. In her heart, there was only Troy, even after the divorce.

Draven’s heart suddenly stabbed with pain. This was probably jealousy taken to its extreme, stomach acid surging straight into his heart, the pain unbearable.

The more miserable he felt inside, the colder his expression became.

No matter what, Troy’s greeting card ending up in the trash can was its fate.

He did not want to see anything related to Troy enter Ayla’s life again.

Draven didn’t rush back to his room. He walked over to the display cabinet, where Ayla’s pine tree cups were placed-fewer than the ones in his own home.

Suddenly, the beautiful shelf felt very empty. It should have another photo frame on it, one with a picture of him and Ayla together…
