Chapter 348 She Didn’t Care
Cooperation was never about sacrificing herself it had to be profitable.
Ayla had no intention of making another losing deal.

Draven released her. Under the night sky, his handsome face was strikingly beautiful-still refined, still powerful and steady. He lowered his gaze slightly, his brows faintly drawn together. Those eyes that were usually cold enough to make people uneasy now clearly held concern. “Are you really not afraid?”
The concern in his eyes hit Ayla straight in the chest. She paused for a split second, then smiled. “Of course not. If anyone bullies me, I’ll just bring you up. Who would dare say I’m wrong then?”
She clasped her hands together playfully. “Mr. Storm, becoming your friend is one of the most important things that has happened to me this year. I hope our friendship lasts a very long time.”
With that, Ayla took out the card Kayla had given her. The password was all nines-Kayla really was absurdly rich.
“Here.” She smiled and placed the card back into his palm.
The moment Ayla heard Draven say he was worried about her, she understood everything.
The things Kayla had said in private-if she had said them directly to Ayla’s face-would have been hurtful.
Draven didn’t get along well with Kayla; otherwise, he wouldn’t have lied to deceive his own mother. In his eyes, it probably wasn’t impossible that Kayla would say those things directly to Ayla.
So he worried.
Ayla understood.
“This money is meant for your real girlfriend.”
Draven’s gaze darkened slightly. For a moment, he almost suspected that Ayla had overheard something.
But there was no hint of anything unusual in her eyes.
Based on what he knew of her, even if she hadn’t heard anything, she still wouldn’t take the
money.

Ayla wouldn’t fuss over small sums. But large amounts gave her every reason to refuse.
Draven said nothing and quietly put the card away.
There were many gifts he still hadn’t given Ayla yet. This card was one of them.
Someday, they would all be hers.
“Thank you for today,” he said softly. “For playing along with me.”
Kayla never followed conventional rules. Draven had truly been afraid she might say something outright. Thankfully, she hadn’t. Otherwise, he would never have let Kayla meet Ayla again.
“At first I was a little nervous,” Ayla said with a smile, “but just like you said, once we met, it was fine. Your mother is actually very nice. She didn’t interrogate me. She even gave me a meeting gift, and kept thinking about the two of us. Also, you stepped in to deflect questions for me while I just sat there, ate my meal in peace, and that was that.”
“Tomorrow is Martin’s birthday,” Ayla added lightly. “Even if she sees me again and knows about my relationship with Troy, she won’t say anything.”
Draven’s heart tightened.
Back then, when Casey had been frightened to tears, Ayla had comforted him in the same
tone.
Ayla was keenly sensitive to other people’s emotions. She was the complete opposite of him -he, cold and detached, unable to empathize; she, warm and perceptive to an extreme.
He walked in shadows while she was full of light
Light was something that could hurt him.
And yet now, that light was falling on him.
How could she be this good?
It was precisely because Ayla was this good that ayla’s words felt all the more cutting by
contrast.
Draven pressed his lips together, emotions churning in his chest.
He had the sudden urge to bare his heart to her
The person he liked was truly, deeply good.

“I’m worried about you,” he said. “And you’re the one comforting me?”
“You don’t like that?”
Draven looked at her intently. “I like it.”
He wanted Ayla’s concern.
But at the same time, it hurt him to see her worrying over him.

Ayla had never seen Draven look so conflicted. Her words were meant to keep him from worrying too much.
But she wasn’t pretending to be strong, nor playing the saint after being privately judged by Kayla and then forcing herself to act unfazed.
This calm came from the bottom of her heart.
Because Kayla’s words had never truly affected her.
Kayla was successful in her career and was Draven’s mother, and she was an elder deserving respect. Ayla sincerely respected her.
But at the end of the day, they had only met once, and there was no personal bond between them. Kayla was essentially a stranger. Even if Kayla had criticized her to her face, the weight of her words wouldn’t stir Ayla’s heart nearly as much as something said by Aunt Juliet.
So Ayla didn’t care.
As for Kayla being unable to accept that Ayla was Troy’s ex-wife, Ayla cared even less.
Firstly, it was a fact, and she couldn’t change it.
Secondly, she would never doubt her own worth just because she had been divorced once. Her value didn’t come from marriage.
Her career, her ambitions, the things she chose to pursue-those were what defined who she
was.
Ayla knew she was good. If someone said she wasn’t, did that suddenly make her a bad person?
Of course not. She was kind, willing to help others, and was capable of caring deeply. She was already a good person, and no outside judgment could change that.
Besides, her relationship with Draven was fake anyway. Whether Kayla approved of her or not had nothing to do with her.

And taking a step further, even if she and Drave were to develop something real in the future, if Draven truly listened to Kayla’s words, hen it wouldn’t be a question of whether they should stay together. It would be a question of whether Ayla could even respect Draven
anymore.
And she definitely wouldn’t.
