Chapter 357 An Awkward Reunion
Chapter 357 An Awkward Reunion
Oh no! Carmen is here too.
What kind of nightmare is this?
And Troy and his family were here too.
Didn’t any of them feel awkward?
Then why did I feel so uncomfortable?

The relatives felt tense from head to toe. None of this had anything to do with them directly, but knowing the inside story, they couldn’t relax at all.
Luckily, Martin was there. He was like a calming anchor. When it came time to wish him a happy birthday, everyone slowly settled down.
The garden behind the estate.
Kayla actually liked the gardenscape style of this part of the country. Every step revealed a new view. The layout was elegant and carefully designed. “Your grandfather really knows how to enjoy life,” she said with a smile.
She walked to the pond and tossed some fish food into the water. As the fishes gathered, she caught a reflection in the water-Draven’s cool, distant face. She turned and asked, “You know,” she said, “your face shape really does look like your dad’s. Narrow face, very clean-cut. Luckily your eyes and brows look like mine. If you’d taken after him completely, I wouldn’t accept that.”
Draven had no words.
Is this something to compete over too?
Kayla thought of the stunned relatives from earlier. People really were shaped by where they grew up. Their personalities were gentle overall. Back then, when she made a scene, she scared all of them.
“Do you know why I liked your father back then Kayla laughed softly.
“Men from the north were all too macho for me was the oldest at home, strong-willed. I couldn’t get along with them. Your dad was different. Fair-skinned, good-looking, gentle. He knew how to sweet-talk people and always gave me the royal treatment. He knew how to lower himself and flatter me. I liked that.”
Draven clamped his lips tight.

She paused, then continued casually. “And that pretty boy has the nerve to lie to me. A big lie, too. I didn’t kill him, for this was me being kind.
She felt like talking this much today because she had run into Eric. It gave her the mood to chat a little and also let Draven learn more about her. Bonding time, after all.
But when she turned around, Draven’s face looked awful.
“What’s with that expression?” Kayla asked.
Draven looked at her. “If it was just for fun back then, why did you still have me?”
She raised an eyebrow. “What kind of question is that? If I hadn’t had you, would you even be breathing right now?”
Draven pressed his lips together. He didn’t reply. Forget it. Meeting Ayla made his life feel worth it.
Through her, he had seen what real love looked like.
Seeing him stay quiet, Kayla finally felt a bit better. She kept walking forward. When she noticed Draven wasn’t following, she turned back and shot him a sharp look. Draven immediately walked up to her side.
After a moment, she suddenly asked, “Troy is wearing a wedding ring. And I haven’t heard anything about a divorce. Does that mean Ayla is still coming?”
Kayla had only believed Draven and Ayla were together because she had found out they were living together. After meeting them, and seeing how much Draven cared about Ayla, she was fully convinced.
But Troy’s reaction felt strange.
Kayla looked at Draven. “You’re not becoming the other man for love, are you?”
She was very direct. Before Draven could answer she asked again, curious. “Did you steal Ayla away from him?”
After Draven returned to the country and started spending time with Ayla, he realized he liked her. If he had known earlier, would he have forced his way in and taken her? He honestly didn’t know.
But now, they had divorced. There would never be a better chance than this.
This time, he was competing with Troy for real.
And he had every right to do so.

Draven didn’t answer her directly. Instead, he reminded her, “What you said to me in private. last time-don’t say it again. And don’t ever let Ayla hear it.”
Kayla hadn’t expected him to be this serious. To her, it wasn’t a big deal at all. Seeing the distrust on his face made her upset. “Sure, your mom can be unreliable sometimes,” she said with a raised brow, “but I know where the line is You’ve been single for years, and you finally found a girlfriend. Do you think I’d say something to Ayla that would hurt her and scare her away? Am I out of my mind? I’m not some old-fashioned, evil mother-in-law.”
Draven still didn’t look convinced. “You’d better keep your word.”
Kayla almost cursed. “So that’s how you see me? Unreliable?”
“There are things I won’t argue with you about,” Draven said. “But when it comes to Ayla, I’ll argue over every detail. This isn’t just about you.
Kayla fell silent.
She really wanted to push him into the pond and feed him to the fish. What kind of son talked to his mother like this?
Draven pressed on and drew the line. “Did you hear me?”
If there was one thing he could learn from Ayla’s previous marriage, it was Bria’s arrogant attitude toward her. It showed one thing clearly: Troy had never truly protected her.
Draven would never allow that to happen.
Kayla could dislike Ayla if she wanted, but she had to keep it to herself. She was not allowed to say it out loud.
Kayla shot him a sharp look, eyes practically throwing knives. “Not only did I hear you, I get it. Fine. I’ll treat Ayla like a princess. I’ll pamper her and worship her. Happy now?”
Draven replied calmly, “If you want to, that’s your choice. But Ayla is sensible; she wouldn’t play along with your nonsense.”
Kayla had no words.
Why did it feel like he insulted her twice? Now she was the insensible one?
Forget it. She had spoken in anger and handed him an opening. Kayla swallowed it, let it go, and relaxed again, enjoying the view. Still, when it came to Ayla, she really was curious. “Why did Ayla and Troy get divorced?”
