Kayla had only checked the most recent news. She didn’t know much about what happened before.
Draven frowned and said, “They didn’t get along”
“Didn’t get along?” Kayla asked. “So they both stopped loving each other, or did one of them get hurt and give up?”
Draven clenched his fist. “Neither of them loves he other anymore.”
Kayla snorted. “I don’t think so. If Troy doesn’t love her, why is he still wearing a wedding ring?”
Draven scowled and asked, “What are you trying to say?”
“Just curious,” Kayla said. She looked him up and down, eyeing her tall, handsome son. “You’re so protective of Ayla, which makes me wonder, did you really win her heart? What if Troy wants her back? He’s about the same as you Same height, same looks, and he’s her ex- husband. He might even have the upper hand.”
Draven fell silent.
“Don’t like hearing that, huh?” Kayla laughed right away.
Seeing her son at a loss made her feel oddly satisfied. “Then try harder. When I saw you two last time, you looked fine, but…
She teased him without mercy. “As someone who’s been there, I can tell you this. You two avoid touching each other. You two haven’t mad love to each other, have you?”
Draven froze.
Kayla knew she had guessed right. If two people had slept together, they would be much closer. At the very least, they would hug often, share a drink, or sit close without thinking.
But Ayla and Draven were polite to a fault. There was a clear line drawn between them.
There was a big difference between real intimacy and simple familiarity.
If they weren’t living together, and if Draven hadn’t been so protective of her, Kayla would have suspected Ayla was just an actress he hired.
But Kayla believed they were in love-which was exactly why she felt uneasy. Living together but still keeping that much distance wasn’t normal.

She leaned closer and lowered her voice. “Just tell me the truth. Is something wrong with you?”
The thought seemed to hit her all at once. “You haven’t dated for years. You never liked anyone. Don’t tell me it’s really because of that? You should’ve said so earlier. I could’ve found you a doctor. Instead, I kept pushing you on blind dates and almost ruined those poor girls.”
Draven’s face darkened with every word. He stared at her. “You’re crossing the line. You’re my elder. Watch your boundaries.”
Kayla almost laughed herself silly. He had been like this since he was a child-cold, distant, like he had no emotions at all. She asked, “Are you pretending to be reserved, or are you too embarrassed to say it? What’s there to be shy about? I’m worried about your health!”
Draven didn’t know what to say.
He wasn’t close to Kayla. She rarely showed up, but she had skin as thick as a brick wall. They barely spoke once a year. Yet whenever they met she acted like they were very close. Too familiar. Too casual.
Still, she never crossed his real bottom line.
Every time she was about to push too far, she pulled back just in time.
It was the same with Ayla. She complained that Ayla was Troy’s ex-wife, but his mother fully supported them being together.
Draven wanted to lose his temper, but he didn’t even have a solid reason.
No wonder Kayla wanted to take James as her golson. James was more than happy to follow her around.
Those two were cut from the same cloth.
“You’re overthinking it,” Draven said coldly. The he turned and walked away.
Kayla didn’t get angry when her son gave her a cold look. Instead, when she saw him clearly embarrassed and irritated, she was genuinely suprised.
He had been her son for so many years. How ha she only just realized that Draven was actually quite innocent?
Kayla’s emotions grew complicated.
She had once been ruthless herself. Draven shouldn’t be acting like this.

No way. Draven was far better than his father in every sense. Anyone could tell he had inherited her good genes.
After joking around with Draven for a while, Kayla headed toward the resort where the birthday party was being held.
Before Draven and Kayla left the estate, they ran into the relatives again.
Draven didn’t even glance at them.
Kayla, however, gave them a brief look. Once the relatives recognized her, their expressions shifted from shock to panic. Impulsively, they stepped aside to let her pass first.
Kayla didn’t bother being polite.
Troy saw everything.
He had heard stories about how Kayla had caused a huge scene at the estate years ago. It had nothing to do with him, so he didn’t care much. He simply disliked the two of them.
But what bothered Troy more right now was something else. Ayla still hadn’t replied to him.
It was almost lunchtime. Why hadn’t she shown up yet?
When Draven and Kayla were walking in the garden, Bria arrived. The moment she saw Draven, she kept her distance. Then she noticed the woman walking ahead of him-stern, powerful, and impossible to ignore.
Bria had never met Kayla before, but she recognized her instantly. She was scared and angry at the same time.
Bria quickly turned to look at her mother. As expected, her mother’s face looked terrible. And her father-there’s nothing to be expected for.
Bria couldn’t understand how someone like her father had ever managed to convince Kayla to have a child with him.
Maybe it was just his face back then.
Bria had no choice but to approach her brother,
“Troy, this is Grandpa’s birthday,” she complained. “Why are they even here? And you didn’t even stop them. You should’ve kept her out and et her embarrass herself.”
