Chapter 361 Watching From the Sidelines
She couldn’t show what she was feeling.
Skyla kept her face blank and stared at the table in front of her.

Then, without meaning to, she glanced toward the table ahead, where Draven and Martin were sitting.
Skyla could only see Draven’s back. Beside him sat a woman in a silver suit.
When the mother and son had arrived earlier, almost everyone in the banquet hall had turned to look at them.
Skyla didn’t know Kayla, but their similar features made it obvious who she was. Skyla was stunned.
She felt awkward for them, but the two of them didn’t care at all.
The ones who looked awkward were Eric and Carmen, who arrived later.
Especially Eric. He avoided Kayla without thinking. Carmen could only pretend she hadn’t seen anything.
Skyla didn’t know much about the Storms, but even she could tell that Draven and his mother had a stronger presence than anyone else. She wished she could be like Kayla- strong and confident. If she were, no one would look down on her. People would admire her
instead.
Honestly, if she married Troy, she could do whatever she wanted in Trensea.
But Troy…
Skyla felt irritated again. She stopped thinking about it and forced herself to calm down.
After Troy pushed him away, Max raised an eyebrow and sat down between Troy and Skyla. He leaned closer and whispered, “Are you keeping your distance from Skyla because your grandpa is here?”
Troy kept a cold face and said nothing.
“You suddenly ignoring Skyla like this isn’t right Max said.
That made Troy feel even more irritated. In the past, Max could joke all he wanted. Troy didn’t care. But now, every word Max said rubbed him the wrong way.

“Don’t start anything right now,” Troy warned flaily.
“I’m reminding you,” Max replied. “Try not to lose it so often.”
Troy fell silent.
Had he really changed that much?

Max didn’t push him anymore. He was gentle with women, but with his buddies, he said whatever needed to be said.
They waited for a long time, but Ayla didn’t show up.
Was she not coming?
The party had already begun. Everyone started eating.
Howard had come with his father today. He saw many elders there. Several powerful families from Trensea were present. Still, Howard chose to sit at Skyla’s table.
He quickly noticed that Skyla was in a bad mood
He took the initiative and served her some food.
Howard’s attention lifted Skyla’s spirits. Several socialites nearby noticed the scene. Some looked surprised, others looked envious, but Skyla felt even better. She had always known she was born to be admired.
Eric didn’t dare to speak to Kayla, so he changed tables. Carmen and Bria followed him.
Because Kayla was there, Carmen felt like people were secretly laughing at her. She could barely breathe.
She wondered if Kayla felt just as uncomfortable or if she was the only one suffering.
Carmen couldn’t help being curious. She secretly glanced in Kayla’s direction.
Everyone at that table was from Martin’s generation.
If Carmen had to handle them alone, she could manage, but it would be exhausting.
But what about Kayla?
When Carmen looked over, she froze. Kayla looked completely at ease. She chatted and laughed naturally, as if the past between her and Eric had never happened. In front of the relatives, she showed no discomfort at all.

She didn’t seem to care about other people’s eye the way Carmen did.

In fact, compared to her sharp edge when she was younger, Kayla now felt steadier. More confident. Easygoing even.
The word easygoing popped into Carmen’s head, and she almost laughed. Easygoing? Kayla? What kind of mindset would make someone like Kayla become easygoing? Carmen couldn’t understand it at all.
Because of the past, Carmen herself couldn’t let go. Back then, Kayla had been furious enough to tear the family apart. She even wanted to ruin Eric’s life. If anything, Kayla should have been the one who couldn’t move on.
Lost in her thoughts, Carmen forgot to look away.
Kayla seemed to sense it and glanced over.
Their eyes met. Carmen stiffened. She didn’t know what expression she was supposed to make. Kayla simply smiled at her-polite and brief-then looked away.
Carmen’s heart was already in knots, and Kayla’s complete lack of interest only made it worse. The humiliation hit harder. Her mood dropped straight to the bottom.
She didn’t believe it. With her temper, there was no way Kayla had truly swallowed that
resentment.
Draven noticed the tension and frowned slightly
Kayla caught it. She turned to her stiff-faced son and teased him, “What? Worried about me?”
Draven said nothing.
Thick-skinned. Truly.
“Get me some food,” Kayla ordered calmly. “Shrimp.”
The shrimp had already been peeled before cooking. Draven picked one up and placed it on her plate.
Kayla accepted it with a smile. “It’s nothing. Don stress yourself over it. When I’m about to die someday, then you can pretend to care. Maybe I’ll even cry because I’ll be so touched by
it.”
Draven had nothing to say. He stopped paying attention to the silent battle between Kayla and Carmen.
Kayla wasn’t lying. Even when she was young, she had never really paid attention to Carmen.
