At this moment, Ayla had no room to refuse.
She nodded and said stiffly, “Okay.”

Troy’s face drained of color. With his grandfather standing in front of him and so many relatives watching, he didn’t dare act out. Even though his chest felt like it was about to explode and he wanted to do anything to win Ayla back, there was nothing he could do.
Martin gently patted Ayla on the head. Then he turned around and looked at Bria, his voice sharp and firm. “Go back to the family home. You’re grounded for two weeks.”
Bria’s worst fear had come true. She was the type who couldn’t stand staying inside for even half a day without going out with friends. Two weeks of confinement felt no different from going to prison.
She cried out and begged for mercy.
“Keep it up,” Martin said coldly, “and it becomes one month.”
Bria shut her mouth at once.
It was only house confinement, but to Bria, the punishment was severe.
Martin then looked at Carmen and Eric. He sighed, but his tone was icy. “Ayla said she won’t pursue what happened in the past. That’s her choosing not to argue anymore. You two need to seriously reflect on how to be proper elders and how to fulfill your responsibilities as parents.”
Eric was so scared that he quickly pulled Carmen along and answered, “Yes, Dad.”
At last, Martin turned to Troy. He had noticed long ago that Troy was overly competitive, even stubborn to the point of obsession. By the time Martin wanted to step in, it was already too late. As Troy grew older, he became the most outstanding child in the family, which reassured Martin. He never expected, though, that Troy could be so cold toward Ayla in private. As for matters of young people and their feelings, there was only so much an old man like him could do.
“This slap is your lesson,” Martin said. “Since the divorce is done and Ayla has moved forward, you must move forward too. Live your own life. From now on, you are not allowed to bother Ayla again. Do you understand?”
Troy didn’t respond. Martin spoke even more harshly. “If you can’t even show basic respect, I’ll have to reconsider whether you’re fit to be a CEO.”

Troy’s face stiffened. He forced down all the emotions boiling inside him. Under Martin’s pressure and authority, he could only nod. “I understand.”
Finally, Martin looked at Ayla again. “You once risked your life to save me, yet we treated you unfairly. If there’s anything you want, tell me; I’ll make it happen.”
It was clear Martin wanted to make up for the wrongs Ayla had suffered over the past three years. Many people in the room instinctively thought she would take this chance to ask for something.
The timing was perfect. Even if she asked for a large sum of money, Martin would agree.
But Ayla turned him down. “Martin, I appreciate your kindness. Back then, when I ran into you on the road and helped you, it was just instinct. I believe anyone would have done the same. What I said earlier about being ungrateful was only a response to defend myself. I wasn’t trying to use a favor to ask for anything in return. And honestly, I wanted to meet Troy back then. I did that through you. Martin, you could say that wish was already fulfilled. I never planned to ask for anything more.”
She paused, then continued. What she said next was cold, but she still said it. “From today on, I’m completely done with the Winstons. From now on, we’ll treat each other like strangers.”
Ayla hadn’t come here to argue. But since everything had been dragged into the open, there needed to be an ending.
On the day of the divorce, she had already decided she didn’t want any ties with this family. That was why she let Troy handle the divorce matters alone. From then on, there was no need for contact.
In the three years of marriage, Martin was the only person in the family who had ever given her even a little warmth. The others had never truly looked at her. They were worse than strangers. At least strangers wouldn’t hold such deep hostility toward her. Her words sounded heartless, but these people didn’t really care. The only one who might be hurt was Martin.
Still, Ayla had to make her position clear. Otherwise, these people would think she was being dramatic on purpose. And it was only because Martin was present that they hadn’t already accused her of being ungrateful-of throwing away a good life by insisting on divorce. Troy would have stood by his mother. As always, he would expect Ayla to behave like before: obedient, quiet, and easy to control.
Ayla would no longer cooperate. She would no longer endure it. She took this chance to say everything clearly, with Martin as a witness.
That way, even if they met again in the future and these people tried to twist the story or mock her, they would have no ground to stand on.

Martin understood. He knew exactly what Ayla meant. He turned to everyone present and said firmly, “From now on, mind your own business. If you meet again, stay out of each other’s way. And if I ever find out you’ve teamed up to bully someone, I’ll be the first to deal with it.”
Everyone quickly agreed.
Martin then looked at Ayla. She had changed a lot today. It was clear she had already moved on. Any advice he could give was no longer needed. Ayla wanted a clean break, and his extra care would only put pressure on her.
He sighed inwardly. He was old. He should let the younger generation choose their own path. After all, the couple had even managed to hide their divorce from him for a whole month. There wasn’t much he could do.
Martin gave a final instruction. “Draven, take Ayla home.”
