Skyla did want to be his wife, and she believed she would get it. So after her first moment of hesitation, she began to go along with Troy’s wandering hands.
She leaned closer. She wanted to kiss him. They had never kissed before.
Her lips were almost there when Troy turned his head away, his face cold and distant.
The fingers that had slipped inside her pulled back as well.
It was like a bucket of cold water poured over her. Skyla’s heart sank at once. Troy stopped touching her. He let go and stood up from the couch.
“You … what are you doing?” Skyla asked, stunned.
He stopped before he finished with the foreplay.
Skyla slowly sat up from the couch. Troy moved to the seat across from her. He looked neat and controlled, still in his suit, not a single hair out of place. She was flushed and shaken. He showed no reaction at all. His face was calm. The way he looked at her held no warmth. He picked up a tissue and wiped his damp fingers carefully and emotionlessly.
Skyla suddenly felt deeply embarrassed. She quickly grabbed the blanket on the couch and wrapped it around herself.
Troy tossed the tissue away and looked at her. “Do you like me?” he asked.
Skyla had known Troy for many years. He had never spoken to her in such a judgemental tone before. He was usually considerate, even gentle with her. This sudden coldness made her shiver. She often forgot who Troy really was. She forgot that he was a man with real power, someone who stood far above others, simply because he treated her well.
“Do you like me?” Troy asked again. He didn’t seem to care whether she answered right away.
Skyla and Troy had gone to the same middle school.
Back then, Troy was famous on campus. He was always ranked first in his grade. His family background made even the principal treat him with respect. He was tall, handsome, and striking.
They were young, but Troy was different. He was mature far beyond his age. His expression was always cold, and he was hurting those around him with his coldness.
At that elite private school, where many students came from powerful families, most kids were still fairly innocent. Some whispered behind Troy’s back, calling him a freak. No one

dared to get close to him. Troy didn’t care. He never cared about having friends.
Those who disliked him were few. Far more girls admired him.

He was slim and tall, carrying a natural sense of status. His presence kept people at a distance, yet his looks and aura drew them in. Every time he walked through the campus with that bored, distant expression, it caused a spectacle. Girls would watch him from afar, their eyes. following the tall boy.
Skyla was one of them, but she wasn’t the type te only watch quietly. She also wasn’t reckless enough to confess and get rejected on the spot. Instead, she worked her way in. She first became friends with the small circle of people Troy allowed near him. After that, she slowly gets closer to Troy himself.
She became his only female friend. Even so, she never truly entered his heart. Troy carried too much inside. He was guarded and cautious, unwilling to trust anyone easily.
Still, Skyla was different. She was the only woman allowed to stay by his side. Everyone believed she was special, and Troy liked her.
Skyla almost believed it. After all, Troy treated her well, and there was no other woman around him but her.
But when she said she wanted to go overseas, he didn’t try to stop her at all. Not even a word. That was the moment Skyla realized how foolish she had been.
Her special treatment came from one simple fact: Troy had no female friends. He wasn’t interested in women and didn’t bother getting close to them. She only stood out because she was the only woman who had entered his circle of friends. That was all.
And after she went abroad, Troy suddenly got married.
Skyla had worked so hard just to become his friend. How could she accept this? Ayla, who had appeared out of nowhere, was super lucky and had taken everything from her. All of Skyla’s effort was wasted.
She refused to give up. To prove she was special to secure her place, she forced herself to stand out. She focused on her major. She even learned car racing because of Troy.
She liked the envy in other people’s eyes. She enjoyed it. But none of that felt as good as having Troy’s attention.
Skyla didn’t know if she truly loved him, but she had always known one thing clearly, Troy was her desire.
By staying close to him, she could easily get everything she wanted.

No matter what, she wouldn’t give up on him.
And hadn’t her chance finally come?
Skyla nodded. “I like you.”

Troy pulled at the corner of his lips. It looked like a smile, but not exactly so. “I like women who are obedient. Can you do that?”
Skyla didn’t know what he was planning. “I can.”
Troy said calmly, “As long as you’re obedient and keep liking me, I’ll treat you well.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Skyla saw the tissue he had tossed aside. She decided to be bolder. She stood up, walked over, and sat on his lap.
“Why did you stop?” she asked softly.
Troy thought of Ayla. The moment her name came to mind, all of his desires faded. He didn’t even know what he was doing anymore. His mood was heavy. He just wanted to release something but did not exactly want to make love with Skyla. A deep, dark weight lingered in his chest, and he couldn’t shake it off.
