Not long after, Shawn came out of the restroom. When he saw Ayla, he looked surprised and pleased. His gaze lingered on her. “Where is Draven? Did he not come with you?”
“I resigned,” Ayla said.
Shawn raised an eyebrow. “Draven was willing to let you go?”
Ayla’s thoughts drifted again for a moment.
Shawn knew about Draven’s special attitude toward her. As someone who had known him for years, he could see the change.
Ayla and Halle had already agreed on how to handle Draven. Take it one step at a time.
But when she met people they both knew, she found herself thinking of Draven much more often.
Even when he was not with her, his presence felt stronger than ever.
Ayla steadied herself and explained simply. “It was a normal resignation.”
“Since you are here, I cannot not play host,” Shawn said with a grin. “Tonight is on me. Let’s all get together.”
Shawn remembered that one of his close friends had shown strong interest in Ayla and kept urging him to arrange a meeting.
Since Ayla was in Aqualith, Shawn was not going to miss this chance.
He had also asked Will before. Draven was a bit special toward Ayla, but it was still just a boss and secretary relationship. Besides, Ayla’s ex husband was Troy, Draven’s younger brother. If Draven really liked Ayla, it made no sense that he would let her marry his brother. So there must be nothing between them.
With Shawn extending such a warm invitation, alle and Jackson could not refuse. Ayla naturally went along as well.
Shawn kept messaging his friends without pause
“Come out. Blind date.”
He loved playing matchmaker. If half of the ten couples he set up worked out, he felt proud.
He was already looking forward to their wedding drinks.

As Ayla followed Shawn and the group to the next venue, a black car trailed behind them.
Inside that car sat Troy, his face hidden in shadow, his emotions unreadable.
Leaving the flashy party district, Shawn brought them to a private bar with a luxurious vintage feel. It was reservation only and not open to the public. It was refined without being stiff, and lively without being noisy.
This was Shawn’s territory. At the last yacht party, Ayla had already seen how many people from different backgrounds he knew. So when he called a few friends over, she was not surprised.
Without warning Ayla ahead of time, Shawn did not bluntly introduce his close friend Noah Carter. Instead, everyone chatted and played together. If the conversation flowed, people talked more one on one. It was a very natural social process.
Before long, Ayla met a talented young man named Noah.
The last time she’d been here was for Storm Group’s overseas listing, and she mostly met people from finance. She had a good memory and felt she had seen Noah once at some event, though they never spoke.
This time, she learned that Noah was the CFO of a securities firm, not yet 30. He was not as charming as Shawn, but he was fit, dressed neatly, and carried himself like a true professional.
The type you would label as successful at first glance.
Noah was warm and polite. Ayla had already shifted into her work networking mode. They talked about the tech industry, and the conversation quickly picked up.
The bar was large, and Noah was very interested in cutting edge technology. He suggested they talk more in depth somewhere quieter.
ZeitTech’s long term goal was to go public. Once Lugi-X was upgraded and launched, the plan would move forward. It would take years, but everything was progressing steadily.
Meeting people from finance early was important. And since they were talking about work, Ayla had no reason to refuse.
So the two left the main group and went to a quieter corner of the public space. They sipped
their drinks and talked.
Serious discussion took time. Ayla shared valuable insights but kept things high level. If Noah wanted to go deeper, he would need to invest much more time and effort himself.
When they had covered enough, Noah smiled.

“Technology has become the core focus of investment in our field. Thank you, Ms. Keaton, for sharing so much. I really appreciate it. May ask you out again sometime?”
“I am flying back to Trensea tomorrow,” Ayla said openly. “If you come to Trensea on business, feel free to contact me.”
Noah took the chance to exchange contact information with her.
He sent her an emoji and then smiled. “There is something I want to apologize for today.”
Ayla looked surprised. “For what?
“We met once before, but I did not get the chance to introduce myself before you left. I have wanted to know you since then, but never had the opportunity. Shawn told me you were in Aqualith on business, so I came over. Noah said with a polite smile. “I hope you do not
mind.”
