Ayla’s wounds were taken care of. Halle ran around to get the ointments-one for her knee, another for her wrist. Troy had yanked her too hard. The bruising on her wrist was dark and obvious. It needed medicine too.

Halle still looked uneasy. “I’ll stay with

you tonight.”

Ayla shook her head.

Halle paused, then understood. “You’re going to see Draven?”

“Yes.”

Halle was about to ask more when Draven appeared beside them.

Both women turned.

Draven’s hair was brushed back, showing his smooth forehead. During the fight with Troy, a few strands had fallen loose across his brow. Instead of ruining his look, the mess only made him more striking. His sharp features were still cold and refined, the faint disorder adding a dangerous edge.

As soon as he stepped closer, he checked Ayla’s knee first-then looked up at her face.

Ayla said to Halle, “See you tomorrow.”

Halle was still worried. She looked at him and said seriously, “Mr. Storm, please take care of her.”

Draven knew exactly how important Halle was to Ayla. And since he was trying to win Ayla over, he took that request seriously. “Don’t worry” he said.

Draven took Ayla back to the hotel where he was staying.

On the way, he hesitated. Part of him didn’t want to get her a separate room. But if they stayed together, he knew he wouldn’t sleep all night. Not after that kiss. Not with her so close. He wasn’t sure he could keep himself under control-and he didn’t want to scare her.

She wasn’t ready for that yet.

So he booked her a separate room. “Let’s talk in your room,” he said.

Ayla stopped at the door instead of going in. “Mr Storm, let’s go to yours. I also wanted to ask

Draven didn’t overthink it. Ayla had always been polite with him. But right now, that was the thing he liked least.

His gaze lingered on her lips for a brief moment He forced himself to look away, pressed down the heat in his chest, and led her to his room instead.

The presidential suite was still luxurious.

But it felt different now.

Ayla followed him inside. Her knee was already wrapped, the dried blood cleaned away. Her wrist felt free again—not aching, not burning, no longer feeling like it might snap.

And the man beside her had changed too. Now i was Draven. A man who made her feel completely safe.

Ayla walked over and sat on the couch.

For a second, it felt like everything lined up with what had just happened earlier. But this time, she didn’t feel the urge to run. She didn’t scan the room for something she could grab and smash over Troy’s head-only to be caught and pinned down even harder. There was no crushing tension, no wild fear, and no sense that someone wanted to drag her down and destroy everything together.

Slowly, without realizing it, she let out a breath. Then she noticed-her hands were still clenched tight.

She relaxed her fingers bit by bit. Her nails had dug into her skin without her knowing. Several red marks were left in her palm.

She curled her hand into a fist again. This time, there was no panic behind it. She closed her hand gently, then opened it, watching the movement carefully.

Only now-only after reaching a place that felt truly safe, with no threat nearby—did her body finally come out of that dark, tense state.

Draven came over with two bottles of water. He twisted one open and handed it to her.

Ayla took it and drank a sip.

He sat down beside her. Their eyes met, and he was about to speak-

She looked at his hand. “Why didn’t you treat it?

“It’s nothing,” he said.

“I’ll do it for you.”

He still hadn’t touched his wounds. Ayla knew exactly why.

Once she realized what he was doing, it was like fog clearing from her mind. Suddenly, everything felt obvious.

Men’s little tricks were easy to see through. He hadn’t even tried to hide it.

Just like Halle had said-his intentions were written all over his face. Ayla had simply never looked at him that way before, so she’d missed countless small details.

There was a first-aid kit in the room.

The skin on the back of his hand was scraped raw, especially around the knuckles. The outer layer was broken, with dried blood still visible.

When Ayla thought back to how brutal he’d been when fighting Troy, a chill ran through her chest. Male violence was terrifying. Truly frightening.

She could pretend to stay calm in front of Troy.

But his tall, solid build-his sheer physical power-still filled her with fear.

Draven was just as tall. Just as strong.

With Troy, she worried his fists might turn on her. With Draven, that thought never crossed her mind.

When he threw a punch, it was to protect her.

That he had feelings for her, Ayla never doubted that.

She cleaned his wounds carefully with antiseptic When she reached the deeper cuts, her movements became even gentler.

For the worst scrapes, she applied medicine and wrapped them with medical tape, slowly and precisely.
