Chapter 425 Still Worried

46

Finished

Troy ground his teeth. Give her back to me? Draven isn’t worthy. Ayla is my woman.

His face was pale and grim. Max, you know him. Then you should know me too. Stop saying this crap, alright? Don’t try to talk me out of it.

Max knew Troy wasn’t listening at all. Maybe outsiders really did see more clearly. His instinct told him that Troy’s obsession with Ayla didn’t actually have that much to do with Draven.

When a boy becomes a man, the way he thinks is bound to change. Maybe Troy and Draven would always have bad blood, but was it really that important?

What Troy truly couldn’t accept wasn’t that Draven had taken Ayla away. It was that Ayla had chosen Draven.

The cause and effect had flipped.

Everything was different now.

Max might soon witness a cold, heartless bastard suddenly discovering what love really was. Would that happen to Troy?

Honestly, Max didn’t want to see it. When a scumbag suddenly gains the ability to love someone, the punishment usually cuts straight to the bone.

Max had known Troy for a long time. He had this suspicion, but he couldn’t be sure. After all, Troy’s attitude really didn’t look like he loved Ayla.

But what if?

In that case, Max still wanted to warn Troy to be careful.

Troy got sick.

In the middle of the night, he suddenly spiked a high fever.

Max accepted the situation and called the family doctor. The doctor examined him and prescribed medication. Max asked the doctor to help him take it, but once Troy got sick, his temper got even worse. He threw a punch straight at the doctor, and Max almost had to pay damages.

Left with no choice, Max took over the job himself, constantly guarding against the risk of getting punched in the face. He finally managed to get Troy to take the medicine.

Then, following the doctor’s instructions, he had to check Troy’s temperature every so often.

Max found it kind of funny. Troy really had great luck. When he was married. Ayla took care of him. Now that he was single, this friend of his still hadn’t cut ties with him. With Max’s personality, he just couldn’t abandon him, so he ended up taking over the role.

Troy had a good constitution and a strong body. It was just that the high fever he’d had as a kid after Eric beat him badly had left some lingering issues. On top of the heavy mental stress, he was more prone to getting sick.

Damn. Does Troy just naturally attract people with a caretaker instinct? Is that one of the reasons he agreed to marry Ayla?

While Max was letting his thoughts run wild, he heard Troy muttering in his sleep.

He leaned in to listen.

It was the name Ayla.

By the time dawn approached, Max had been busy all night. He made himself a hearty breakfast and prepared one for Troy as well, so he could heat it up and eat when he woke up.

He tapped his fingers lightly on the table.

Max had Ayla’s contact info. He sent her a message.

Troy is sick. He’s had a high fever all night. Do you wanna come see him?

He also sent the villa’s address.

Since it was just daybreak and still early, Max thought Ayla wouldn’t reply for a while. Or that there might not be a reply at all. But as he looked out at the garden beyond the floortoceiling windows, sunlight faintly spilling in, and ate his breakfast, Ayla called him directly.

Max startled, and the coffee in his hand nearly spilled. He stared at the incoming call, his heart pounding. He set the cup down, took a second or two to steady himself, then answered.

Ayla?”

Are you with Troy?

It really was Ayla’s voice. Max lowered his gaze.

She responded so quickly. Is she still worried about Troy?

Yes. I went to see him last night. He wasn’t in good shape. His stomach problem flared up.
