Chapter 470 Not the Person

Strange. Who was he even waiting for?

It couldn’t be Ayla. He had never waited on her. She was always the one stuck waiting for him to come

home.

Laura didn’t dare ask.

She walked off without saying anything. But as she pulled the study door shut, her eyes caught on something else that felt off.

Troy was wearing clothes Ayla had picked out for him back in the day. She remembered the brand. It was casual, cleancut, and had that polished touch. He looked like a fullon movie star in it. Every time he wore that stuff, Laura would think he could walk onto a red carpet and fit right in. Those outfits softened his usual icecold edge. They made him seem less intimidating.

Maybe Ayla used to organize his wardrobe. Without her, maybe he just grabbed whatever was hanging up.

Bria was the one calling.

It had been five full days, and Ayla still hadn’t called Troy once. Every time he thought she would, she didn’t. Every time he hoped, she let it crash.

Troy’s temper was shot. His patience was long gone. What the hell was Ayla doing? Was she really trying to keep him hanging like this?

He answered the call. Bria’s voice came through in fullblown sobs. Troy, it’s been two weeks! I just got my phone back! You seriously don’t know what it’s been like for me, stuck back at the estate. Grandpa completely lost it. He locked me in there for over two weeks! Come get me, please. I have so much to tell you!

She just wanted to vent. She didn’t think her brother would really drive all the way out to pick her up. It was hours away.

But he showed up anyway.

Except his attitude lately had been so damn short. It was like he couldn’t even stand to hear her complain

anymore.

He used to be so patient. Now he wouldn’t even let her finish a sentence.

Then it clicked. He had changed after marrying Ayla. Back then, he was softer. He listened more. He actually acted human around her.

Holy crap. How had she not seen it sooner? Troy without Ayla wasn’t the same guy. Not even close.

But she couldn’t dwell on that right now. She was still livid. The last two weeks had felt like some kind of boot camp punishment. She had hit rock bottom.

Renee had come to pick her up.

The second Bria saw her, her tears went into full meltdown mode.

Renee froze.

Was thatBria?

Her hair looked like it hadn’t been brushed in days. Her clothes were wrinkled and stained. Her nails had dirt packed in them. And there was a rank smell clinging to her.

Renee almost gagged. Bria had never looked this bad. Ever.

As she stepped closer, she noticed a garden. Next to it was a huge pile of organic compost. That explained the stench.

Oh my God. What happened to you?

Renee’s mouth hung open so wide a whole egg could’ve dropped in.

Bria bawled harder. Through all the sniffling, choking, and ranting, Renee finally pieced it all together. Honestly, Martin had gone full savage.

Bria was the kind of girl who needed to be surrounded by people. Being dumped alone in the middle of nowhere was already a nightmare. But she tried to tell herself she could survive it. She had packed her phone. She figured she’d play games, scroll online, and wait out the punishment while someone brought her meals.

That fantasy crashed fast.

Every device got taken away. No phone. No WiFi. No staff. Just one guard watching her every move.

And that guy? He was fully loyal to Martin. She even tried bribing him with a million bucks and still got shut down.

The only screen in the house was an old TV with a few local channels. It played news and ancient reruns of war documentaries. That was it.

She had to cook for herself too.

There were no friends. No distractions. Nothing but silence.

No one was helping her.

Bria had never cooked a meal in her life. Growing up, she didn’t even lift a spoon. Someone else always fed her. She had no idea how to make a meal for herself.

She honestly thought Martin would back down. He didnt.

Out of spite, she went on a hunger strike. She drank water. Stayed in bed for two days. Then pretended to faint.
