Chapter 491 Scared Jeremy
Jeremy had been terrified back then. After that mess, he never dared to cross Draven again. But the damage had already been done. From that point on, they were enemies for life.

Draven now? He wasn’t even close to the kid he used to be. And honestly, even back then, with how brutally he handled things for someone his age, there was no way he’d ever been some sweet, harmless little boy. He just hadn’t grown into his bite yet.
Still, no matter how dangerous someone looked, everybody had a weak spot. Jeremy had once caught a glimpse of Draven’s journal. It was full of countdowns. At the time, he had no clue what they meant. But later, when Draven’s grandfather sent someone to bring him back to Trensea for a visit, it all made sense. Draven had been counting the days.
That little bastard had been living day by day, just waiting to see his grandfather again.
Jeremy nearly laughed himself to death when it clicked. Draven was actually… kind of sweet.
Some kid who’d grown up ignored and unloved, just latching onto anyone who gave him the tiniest bit of warmth.
He wasn’t scared of much–except losing people he cared about.
And now he was dating Ayla. For real. They were together. That changed everything. Knowing Draven, this wasn’t just some random hookup. He was in deep. If Ayla ever dumped him, he’d go right back to being that same pathetic kid nobody wanted.
And he wouldn’t survive that. It’d break him clean in two. That thought made Jeremy grin as he pulled his lip up. “Draven,” he muttered, “your time at the top’s almost up.”
Draven didn’t say a word. He stared at him for two full seconds, then turned and walked out of the winery.
Outside the estate…
He stood beside the car, head lowered, flipping through his contacts.
His finger stopped on one name. “Kayla.”
He hit call.
She hadn’t reached out since leaving Trensea. This was their first contact.
The phone rang forever. Then she finally answered.
You’re calling me?” Kayla’s voice held real surprise.
They barely exchanged words once a year.
Draven gripped his phone tight. Jeremy hadn’t gotten much of a rise out of him earlier, but the second he heard Kayla’s voice, something ugly snapped loose inside him. He didn’t even know why. It didn’t add up. He tried stuffing it back down like always. But the second he opened his mouth, it all came flying out. ‘Why the hell did you tell Jeremy about me and Ayla?!”

Finished
Draven had been through hell, but nothing really ever got under his skin.
At least, not in Kayla’s memory. She’d never once heard her son actually angry.
So the second he shouted, she went completely still.
“You better warn Jeremy,” Draven said, his tone like ice. “If he keeps poking around or touches Ayla, he’s either going in the ground or leaving in a wheelchair.”
“Draven,” Kayla snapped. That snapped her out of it. She wasn’t the kind of woman who let anyone talk down to her. Her voice stayed smooth, but the weight behind it could crush concrete. “Are me?”
you threatening
Draven placed one hand on the roof of the car. The window beside him showed his reflection. “I’m giving you a courtesy call,” he said coolly. “Not a threat. Just making sure you’re not blindsided.”
Kayla didn’t respond.
He kept going. “A broken little brother. Torn apart by his violent older brother. You’re a chairwoman now. Can your shiny career take a scandal like that?”
Kayla had never meant to have Draven. It was an accident. She never wanted to be a mother, not even for a second. But when she found out she was pregnant, she never seriously thought about getting rid of him either.
Then came the news. Eric had gotten married. And right after that, her father died. Everything collapsed at once. Kayla didn’t have the energy to raise a kid, so she left Draven with her dad and walked away.
Once she grabbed real power, her schedule got even worse. She barely had time to sleep. Raising a kid was the last thing on her mind. Draven was safe with her father, tucked away back home. Seeing him once a year seemed like plenty.
A few years went by. Draven came back to the Storms. He was only seven or eight, but he already had his own attitude. By then, Kayla had adapted to a life without children. She didn’t make room for him. Work still ate up every minute. The Storms weren’t a family–they were a battlefield. Her siblings were always out for blood. So were the in–law families. Climbing to the top was going to be a long, bloody war. She didn’t have time to babysit Draven. If he could handle himself, great. If not, too bad. She wasn’t getting involved.
Being hot–headed wasn’t just a guy thing. It was the core of who Kayla was. Her whole life had been a grind through chaos. Her fire went into the boardroom, not into parenting. She barely raised Draven. Maybe showed up for a birthday or two. That was it.
But now she was older. Now that Draven had turned out strong and impressive–and made her look good in the process–she’d finally started thinking about fixing things between them. The problem was, she didn’t even know where to start. For all her experience, she didn’t know how to talk to him. And if she had to live under the same roof as him? She’d crack before he did. So just figuring out how to take that first step had already taken her years.
