Ayla and Halle planned to leave one night early. They didn’t want to ruin the mood, so they told everyone. else to stay one more day and head back as planned the next day.
Everyone agreed.
Shawn and Winnie both had things weighing on their minds. Each had their reasons, but they cherished this vacation a lot, so they had no objections.
Ayla and Halle needed to return for work. Draven obviously couldn’t leave with them, so he stayed behind for another day.
Since Draven wasn’t leaving, the rest of the group decided to stay.
Still, after Ayla and Halle left, everyone felt a little odd. Before Ayla and Halle fully blended into the group, everyone else had already been close friends. This was a private gathering. Without the two of them, who were great at livening things up, the atmosphere felt a little flat. Ayla and Halle had brought a lot of unexpected fun to the group.
That night, Ayla and Halle landed in Trensea around seven. By 9 p.m., they met with the general manager of Vortex Tech.
It wasn’t their first meeting.
Ayla smiled and shook Brooke’s hand. “Mr. Goodman, long time no see.”
Zeit Tech needed to upgrade LugiX, and that required a huge amount of data. Data was fuel for AI, and getting that fuel wasn’t easy.
They had previously collaborated with a data service company, but an unexpected issue arose at the last moment. They had to find a new tech partner, and Vortex Tech was a strong option.
When Ayla and Halle arrived, Ayla’s technical department assistant, Page Brewer, and Louisa were already there.
Brooke remembered Ayla well. Back when Ayla filled in for Sacha to deliver documents to Draven, Brooke had offered her strong liquor. She had been on antibiotics at the time; Draven drank for her instead.
Then there was the charity gala, where Brooke tried too hard to flatter people and ended up saying the wrong thing.
“Ms. Keaton, Ms. Kinsman, long time no see,” Brooke said warmly, inviting them to sit and talk about the partnership. “I didn’t expect we’d work together again. What a coincidence.”
Because they already knew each other back then, the negotiation went very smoothly.
From the beginning, Brooke knew Ayla was Draven’s secretary and had never looked down on her. But after finishing the deal, Brooke was honestly shocked. “Ms. Keaton, you’re actually a top high–tech expert. Why were you working as a secretary before? If I had known you were this capable, I would’ve recruited you to our company. Within a year, you’d be leading our entire tech department.”

Take Page, for example. She had a postdoctoral degree and had worked for several years at major global tech companies. Rumor said she was also the senior from Troy’s circle, the same program Skyla attended. Her background was incredibly strong. She was a talent personally recruited overseas by Halle and Ayla.
Page looked much older than Ayla, but she followed Ayla’s lead completely. She practically admired Ayla. That alone showed how many people Ayla had impressed with her ability.
Halle laughed. “Mr. Goodman, that’s unlikely. Ms. Keaton and I started our first business together in college. ZeitTech is something we built with our hands. Forget you trying to steal her; Mr. Storm himself could try, and I’d still hold on and never let her go.”
Brooke laughed too. “Yeah, that makes sense.”
He admired Ayla more and more. But this trip wasn’t only about business. There was also something he needed to clear up with her.
Brooke suggested they grab a drink and chat after signing the contract.
They would be working together in the future, and Vortex Tech was a strong tech company. Keeping good
elationships was important.
Ayla had once messed up work because of drinking, so she usually stayed in control. Last night was lifferent. It was Draven’s birthday, and everyone drank freely. For business events, Ayla would drink a ittle, but she never let herself get drunk.
They talked about work, then about daily life.
