Just thinking about it made Jed feel insanely satisfied. He pushed harder, his voice full of mockery. “Mr. Winston, you’re seriously pathetic. Yeah, I’m worse than you in almost everything. But there’s one thing I’m better at. When I like someone, I treat her well without even thinking about it. Not like you, doing the exact opposite. Think about how much you hurt Ayla. She dumped you, kicked you out of her life, and even got together with the person you hate most. Honestly? I totally get why she did it. Smart move. Really
smart.”
The violent tension around Troy suddenly vanished. He let go of Jed and shoved him away.
Jed stumbled backward. His body was already covered in injuries, and he had no strength left to fight. He lost his balance and dropped hard onto the floor. He clutched his stomach and coughed, but he was still smiling.
He knew he had hit Troy where it hurt.
After working together for so long, how could Jed not know?
“You like Skyla,” Troy said suddenly.
The words hit Jed like thunder. He froze for several seconds. When he looked up and saw Troy’s cold eyes, his voice shook. “You … you already knew?”
“Timing doesn’t matter,” Troy said.
Shock quickly turned into rage. Jed’s whole body trembled. He tried to get up and punch Troy, but moving made his wounds scream in pain. That only made him angrier. “You knew the whole time, didn’t you? That’s why you sent me to deal with Skyla. Because you knew I liked her. You knew I’d try my hardest. You were using me. Using my feelings. Then you made me stand there and watch you two… whatever. You were torturing me.”
“Just a guess,” Troy said calmly.
Jed’s face went stiff. He couldn’t believe Troy could say those three words so casually. And that was the
moment Jed completely broke.
Troy had no attachment to the past. None. All the work Jed had done, all the loyalty, none of it mattered. When Jed worked under him, he gave everything. He was always there when called. He never complained. And now? Now he was nothing and miserable. And Troy still wanted to hurt him.
Troy had already lost to Draven. He was angry enough to lose control. And he still had energy to stab Jed emotionally?
Jed felt cold. So cold it spread through his whole body.
His eyes turned red. He finally understood, Troy had no warmth in him. No one could ever reach his heart. He didn’t like anyone. He didn’t love anyone. Since he was young, he trusted no one who got close to him. He pushed Draven away. He pushed Ayla away. The two people who might have loved him the most–he shut them both out.
Now, Troy realized his feelings for Ayla. Maybe he’d suffer mentally. Maybe he’d regret it. So what?

Troy was still the head of the Winston empire. Still powerful. Still untouchable in Trensea.
No matter how many cruel words Jed said, he could never truly hurt Troy. But Troy could destroy Jed with just a few words. And Jed couldn’t handle it. He had once been truly loyal to him. Before Troy started ignoring him, he had followed him without hesitation. And this was how it ended.
At that moment, Jed finally understood how Ayla had felt.
No matter how much you gave, you would never get the same in return. You could never change his cold heart. You gave him your whole heart, and he crushed it under his foot–without feeling a thing. That kind of helplessness could destroy a person.
Over the past three years, Ayla must have suffered.
And she really had loved him.
Jed stared at Troy’s face. “Troy, go to hell.”
Troy gave him a few glances. He said nothing. Then, he turned and walked away, leaving behind a cold, distant silhouette.
Jed never thought a person’s back could hurt this much. It felt like living under the same roof with someone while you screamed in rage and they simply couldn’t see you. That kind of pain was unbearable.
Troy gave no reaction to Jed’s anger. Instead of fading, Jed’s rage only grew heavier and darker.
Troy… someone like you… Anyone who gets close to you is just unlucky.
A voice came from outside the door. It was Max’s. “That’s a lot of blood. He didn’t die in there, did he?”
Then Troy’s voice replied calmly, “He just cursed my whole family. Do you think he’s dead?”
