Divorce and Freedom: No More Homemaker for Him
Chapter 648 A Call That Went Too Far

When Kayla thought about it more carefully, she realized she couldn’t find anything wrong with Ayla.
Earlier that day, she had asked Ayla to walk with her in the garden for quite a while. In truth, it had been a quiet test. And Ayla had passed it without a problem.
No matter how big the occasion was or how many powerful people were around, if Ayla had to step forward and face the pressure, she could handle it. The girl had strong nerves.
Then there were Ayla’s eyes–cool, calm, and clear. Kayla liked them very much.
When she put everything together, Kayla had to admit she truly liked Ayla. Even the first time they met, when she had felt slightly dissatisfied, she had still liked the girl deep down.
Just then, Kayla’s phone vibrated.
Draven was calling.
She answered. His cold voice came through the phone immediately. “You went to the party? Why?”
Kayla replied in an even tone, “I went to see Martin and congratulate him on his new great–grandchildren.”
There was a brief silence. “Did Ayla see you?” Draven asked.
Kayla let out a small snort. “Of course she did. I asked her to walk with me for a while. I also gave her a ittle lecture.”
‘You-!” Draven fell silent for a few seconds, clearly holding himself back. But when he spoke again, anger still slipped into his voice. “Why would you do that? What happens between me and her is none of your
concern.”
Clearly, his son was panicking.
The last time Kayla had heard Draven lose control like this was when she told Jeremy about his relationship with Ayla. Draven had immediately called her to question her about it.
Draven had always been good at suppressing his feelings. In Kayla’s memory, he had always been calm, obedient, and steady. Seeing this side of him back then had surprised her. She had not allowed him to speak to her in such a tone.
But this time, Kayla didn’t get angry. Her voice only grew colder. “Ayla dumped you,” she said. “What’s wrong with me standing up for you?”
“You… I already told you. My business with Ayla has nothing to do with you.” Draven quickly calmed himself again. But his tone turned even more distant. “Ms. Storm, I don’t think there’s any need for us to repair our relationship. And I certainly don’t need you to defend me.”
Then he hung up the phone.
Kayla glanced at her phone and smiled.

Elizabeth frowned, confused. “Why are you smiling? You didn’t do that. Draven misunderstood you again.”
“It’s nothing,” Kayla replied calmly. “That boy always tries to act so composed. I just wanted to see what he looks like when he actually loses his temper. I want to know what truly matters to him.”
She paused briefly before continuing. “Draven probably got dumped because he’s too good at pretending. He always acts like the perfect man. Sometimes, I wonder if Ayla felt like she was dating someone who wasn’t even real.”
Kayla gave a small shake of her head. “Ayla was the one who brought up the breakup, but Draven didn’t even try to stop her. No matter what reasons he had, what do you think that looked like to her?”
Elizabeth quickly caught on. “Ayla asked for the breakup, but girls still pay attention to the boy’s reaction. If he simply agrees and walks away, it feels like both people have given up. It makes it seem like neither of them believes the relationship will last.”
She paused before adding, “Even though Ayla later regretted it, Draven leaving so easily would probably make her feel like she couldn’t ask to get back together.”
“Exactly,” Kayla said. “That boy had it coming. There’s nothing wrong with being a good boyfriend during the relationship. But when a breakup happens, being too reasonable isn’t always the right choice. Sometimes you have to fight for it.”
Her voice stayed calm as she went on. “Ayla wasn’t confident about suddenly raising children together with Draven. It was his responsibility to give her that confidence. He should have shown her that he could handle the pressure the kids brought into their lives. If he could do that, Ayla would feel safe staying with him. And over time, her feelings might have changed. She might have slowly started to believe in a future for the two of them.”
Earlier, when Kayla said Draven had embarrassed her, she truly meant it.
Ayla had suddenly been hit with the shock and pain of having two children appear in her life. Of course she would feel lost and overwhelmed. When she instinctively stepped back, Draven did nothing to support
her.
The issue had never really been about love. It was about a challenge they were supposed to face together.
When it was time for Draven to step forward, he chose the easier path and let her walk away. If that was the case, how could Ayla still have confidence in their future?
A relationship that cannot withstand hardship is weak.
After Kayla left, Troy went to the nursery.
Bria and Ayla were both there. Bria was eagerly asking Ayla what she and Kayla had talked about in the garden, clearly curious about how Ayla had managed to win Kayla’s favor.
Troy gave Bria a look. “Give us some space.”
Seeing the dark expression on her brother’s face, Bria left reluctantly.

Ayla wanted to leave too, but Troy quickly shut the door before she could.

He looked at her and pulled his lips into a mocking smile. “So,” he said with a hint of sarcasm, “are you trying to become Kayla’s daughter–in–law?”
Ayla looked at the man, who clearly tried to start trouble. “This is a party for your kids,” she said. “I don’t want to argue with you.”
Troy frowned. “It’s just a question. I’m not allowed to raise one?”
