Chapter 652 She Would Never Go Back

After everything Troy had done to her, Ayla was certain that she could not go through another heartbreak.
Maybe it was instinct. Maybe it was her mind trying to protect her from another disaster. Whatever the reason, she had listened to her heart and ended things with Draven.
But the truth was simple. She had truly liked him. Breaking up had hurt more than she wanted to admit, which was why she avoided thinking about it too much.
But Troy had brought it up. He had hit the one place that hurt the most.
The video on her phone kept playing.
It had looped three times. By now, Troy must have seen everything clearly.
Max had once sent her that video, but he deleted it almost right away. Ayla had not saved it in time.
Back when the twins were born overseas, Max often helped take care of them. One night, while he was up late watching little Fluffy, he casually asked if she had ever thought about getting back together with Troy.
Ayla mentioned the video and asked him to send it again.
She never thought it would come in handy today.
If she had not reminded Troy, he might have kept pretending to be the loving, devoted man forever.
But the video also forced Ayla to face a part of her past she would rather forget.
She made a promise to herself. She would never allow herself to fall into that miserable state again.
She would never remarry Troy.
And she would never let her heart be broken into pieces again.
That was enough.
If she could make herself strong enough, nothing would be able to hurt her anymore.
Living on her own and staying strong was not such a bad life,

Ayla put her phone away and wiped the tears from her face. Then she walked to the crib in the inner room.
She reached out and lightly poked Birdie’s soft cheek. Her baby girl waved her tiny hands and grabbed Ayla’s finger.
The warmth of that small hand struck straight at Ayla’s heart.
Tears slipped down her cheeks again.
A moment later, a pair of arms wrapped around her from behind.
Troy held her tightly, burying his face against her neck. He kept crying and apologizing again and again. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…”
For the first time, Troy looked completely defeated. Like a man who had lost everything. His face showed pain, shame, and helplessness.
Ayla found him irritated. She disliked the hot tears soaking into her skin.
She pushed him away and sat down on the couch.
But Troy followed her. Like a child who had been abandoned, he hugged her again.
“I’m sorry, Ayla. I’m sorry. I’ve done so many terrible things to you…”
Ayla spoke flatly, “Yes. If our roles were switched–if I had treated you the way you treated me- you probably would have destroyed me already. I’m not the one with double standards. You
are.”
Troy looked awkward and ashamed. He could not argue. If anyone had dared to treat him that way, he would never have forgiven them.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly. “I really deserve it.”
Ayla looked at him without any emotion. “Yes,” she replied. “You do.”
Troy looked even more uncomfortable. The moment between them felt tense and awkward. He held Ayla tightly and breathed in her scent, almost greedily, as if he were afraid it might disappear. “Ayla,” he said in a low voice, “you loved me before. You chased after me first. When you liked me, you didn’t let me go easily either.
“Even if we don’t look at it from a man’s point of view, think about it as a woman. It’s still the
same.
“You hate me now, so when I keep coming back to you, it feels like I’m forcing you and making you upset. But you don’t hate Draven like that. That coward didn’t even try to fight for you.

That just means he didn’t love you enough.”

His tone grew sharper. “Stop thinking about him. Forget him. Look at me.”
Ayla didn’t react to the provocation. She didn’t get angry, and she didn’t argue. Instead, she simply acknowledged it.
“You’re not wrong,” she said calmly. “I was the one who confessed first. He agreed to be with me. And when I suggested we break up, he agreed to that too.”
She paused for a moment. “So yes, it really does seem like he never chose me with complete determination.” After a short silence, she continued softly. “But I was the one who walked away first. Maybe Draven cared but didn’t want to fight for it. Or maybe his feelings weren’t strong enough to hold on. Maybe I wasn’t the only option in his life. If we had to separate, he could accept it and move on.”
Hearing this, Troy suddenly felt something strange. Ayla seemed to have died inside. Nothing mattered to her anymore.
Not him. Not Draven.
Troy’s lips trembled slightly. “Then who do you care about now? Who do you love?”
Ayla looked at him and answered without hesitation. “My mom. My brother. Halle. Floyd and Esme.”
They were the people she could never lose. The ones who would always stay beside her, giving her a sense of safety that would never fade. They were also the people Ayla was willing to give everything for.
When she was with them, she never had to worry about being abandoned. She never had to fear losing them.
Maybe that was the reason she had not completely fallen apart. Because those people were still in her life, she could keep moving forward and still see hope in the future.
Troy grabbed her hand and pressed it against his chest. Tears streamed down his face, impossible to hold back. “What about me?” he asked, his voice shaking. “You feel nothing for
me now?”
Ayla answered quietly. “I can tell that you’re different now, but you cut me too deep. There’s no way to go back. And I won’t give you another chance to hurt me, I don’t trust you anymore.”
