Chapter 719 Dangerous Comfort
Ayla changed into a black hoodie and black sweatpants.
Draven was dressed the same way.
He was tall, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, the kind of frame that looked good in anything. Dressed all in black, his skin looked even fairer. Because of his mature presence, even a simple black hoodie gave him an old–money kind of style. To Ayla, he looked like he had stepped straight out of a fashion magazine.
Matching outfits like this sent a message everywhere they went. It made it look like she and Draven were a couple.
Ayla felt the influence of it too. When people in a crowd wore the same thing, it naturally made them feel closer to each other psychologically. On top of that, the knowing looks from others made the atmosphere even more obvious.
Draven really was calculating.
After finishing breakfast, Ayla stood in the garden. Draven pushed the twins‘ stroller along the winding path. He truly did not seem to care about his injured leg. He kept walking back and forth like the pain. didn’t bother him at all.
Ayla wore a mask because of her cold and kept a good distance away.
She wasn’t used to having nothing to do. If she were taking care of the babies, that wouldn’t count as being idle. Right now, though, she felt very relaxed.
She followed behind Draven, and her mind drifted back to the moment earlier when he had helped her change clothes. It had almost felt like the level of closeness they had when they were dating in the past.
Ayla was not someone with weak willpower. Draven had simply become too difficult to deal with, and his looks were honestly stunning. She had not been able to resist the temptation.
As long as she spent a little more time with Draven, the rational side of her collapsed completely.
Even Ayla had not expected that.
She stepped on her own shadow as she walked, one step at a time.
By the time she noticed, she was about to bump into Draven.
She lifted her head. Draven happened to turn around to look at her at the same moment.
Ayla hurriedly ran to the side.
She couldn’t risk passing her cold to the babies.
Standing with the sunlight behind him, Draven watched her quickly retreat. He thought to himself that the babies really were the most important thing in her heart. Besides feeling jealous of Troy, he had even started to feel jealous of infants who were not even two months old.

He really was hopeless.
“Ayla, let’s head back,” he said.
“So soon?” Ayla looked at him.
“It’s been half an hour. Time for you to take your medicine.” A faint smile appeared at the corner of Draven’s lips, like snow melting in the sun. Ayla almost stared at him in a daze.
After Ayla took her medicine, the doctor prepared to prescribe some traditional medicine to help regulate her body.
Ayla still didn’t understand why she had suddenly gotten sick. “Was it just staying up late? Maybe the wind?” she asked.
The doctor said, “That’s possible. Another reason could be that your body had already been giving warnings. It’s similar to people who work in a high–pressure environment for a long time. They stay up late every day and work at a very intense pace, yet they never get sick. But once they quit their job, they suddenly get a fever and stay sick for days before recovering. That happens because their bodies were always in a heightened state to cope with the pressure. Even though they were overworking themselves, the body’s survival mechanism kept them going. Once they finally relaxed, the parts of the body that had been overdrawn began to show problems. Ms. Keaton, you didn’t develop a fever, which means your physical foundation is still quite good. If you had kept pushing yourself for a while longer, it would have been more serious.”
After hearing the explanation, Ayla said, “Thank you. I understand.”
After the doctor left, Ayla sat on the couch and looked out through the floor–to–ceiling window.
Draven noticed that she seemed deep in thought. He couldn’t help worrying. He walked over with a cup of honey water. “Drink this.”
Ayla turned her head and accepted the cup he handed her. “Thanks.”
Draven frowned. “What are you thinking about?”
Ayla looked at the liquid in the cup. She was thinking about what the doctor had said.
Suddenly, she understood something. She had not relaxed because she saw the babies. After all, the babies had not yet returned to Trensea, so that matter still had not been resolved.
She had relaxed because she saw Draven. The tightly stretched string inside her had snapped the moment
she saw him.
Before her mind could even react, her body had already recognized that this place was safe. It had betrayed her will and collapsed into illness.
Even though Ayla knew Draven felt unfamiliar and dangerous now, her body still believed he could give her a sense of safety.
Something that was completely beyond her control.

Ayla looked at the worry in his eyes. She knew she was tempted by the intimacy between them, and that made her feel even more uneasy. “I was thinking about how many more days I need to recover. I want to leave here as soon as possible,” she said.
The feeling of relying on someone was frightening. Because once you depended on someone for too long, you might never be able to leave that person again.
Ayla could clearly maintain boundaries with Troy, so she was not afraid of that.
But she had never been able to truly refuse Draven when he got close to her. That was why she kept letting him push further and further.
If they kept spending time together like this, Ayla would definitely fall into Draven’s hands. She didn’t want to get back together with him in such a confused way. She wanted to think everything through first.
It was like her rational mind was still pulling against her instincts.
Aylą could not control her instincts, so she felt like she was standing on the edge of losing control, especially when it came to emotions. She did not want to be hurt again.
Even if that pain had not been caused directly by the other person, the pain that came from outside circumstances, or from her own inability to reconcile everything that eventually led to a breakup, was just as frightening.
