Skyla froze and said, “Is that Max and Ayla?”

Troy turned to look right away.

Max leaned back with a relaxed posture, and his eyes stayed locked on Ayla. He watched her with that easy smile and talked like nothing could bother him.

Ayla looked calm while she listened and replied now and then.

Troy’s brows tightened because he had no idea when they became that familiar.

Max knew her better than the others did, but they never talked this smoothly before. None of it felt like casual small talk.

Troy kept his face flat, and he did not bother to ask.

Skyla relaxed when she saw he did not care, but her chest still twisted in

anger.

She hated that Max knew Troy disliked Ayla and still chose to talk to her anyway.

To her, it felt like Max slapped both of them right on the spot.

She even wondered if Ayla contacted Max first.

She decided Ayla had become pathetic and only knew how to hang around men.

Max frowned and said, “I never asked you to come.”

He remembered only complaining last night about James asking him to play, but he never invited anyone.

Skyla said, “You mentioned it, and I realized I haven’t played in a while. I called Troy, and Rolf is coming too.”

Max sighed and said, “Fine. Wait for me there.”

He hung up, and Ayla said, “Since your friends are there, you should go.”

Max wanted to curse out loud, but manners forced him to hold it in. His body stayed tense, but his voice stayed calm when he asked, “Can we talk like this again next time?”

Ayla said, “I don’t think that’s necessary.”

She and Max were not close enough to meet casually, and his circle included Troy, so she would not throw herself into that mess.

She had plenty of friends already and did not need Max.

Max had deep eyes that made him look painfully sincere when he focused.

He looked at her and said, “We never talked properly before. Now I see you’re great, and we get along. Even after you divorce Troy, it changes nothing. I still want us to talk more.”
