Chapter 816 Giving Her a Chance
But what if?
The moment that “what if” crossed Bria’s mind, she wanted to slap herself. How have I fallen this low? Since when am I the kind of person who’d lower myself and beg someone to love me? How have I become this pathetic?
But she couldn’t lie to herself. She was getting more and more anxious.
Time really could wear things down. She didn’t want things with Kaleb to end in complete silence, with the two of them never speaking again for the rest of their lives.
Bria decided to try one more time.
The day before Kaleb’s birthday, he went to Ayla’s place to see the twins. Bria didn’t go this time. Instead, she waited for him in the garage.
Kaleb saw her.
Ayla’ was upstairs. If they caused a scene here, Ayla might find out.
Bria said she wanted to talk to him calmly. Kaleb didn’t refuse, or at least, that was how he justified it to himself.
They went to a café.
Ever since their last argument, they hadn’t seen each other for a month. Bria looked a little thinner, her skin even paler than before, like she hadn’t seen the sun in weeks.
Bria looked at Kaleb. Her attitude was genuinely calm, and she asked directly, “Kaleb, have you ever had feelings for me?”
Kaleb didn’t answer.
Bria met his eyes. “I’m crazy about you. I’ve fallen for you even back when I was lying to you.”
A flicker of surprise crossed Kaleb’s eyes. “I couldn’t tell.”
Bria said, “That’s normal. I’ve always thought liking someone wasn’t worth much, so I never took it seriously. Even when I liked you, I didn’t think you were anything special. But after all this time, I still have feelings for you. That’s why I’ve kept chasing after you. At first, getting close to you really was about getting back at you, but I don’t feel that way anymore. I actually want to have a real relationship with you.”
Kaleb couldn’t understand how her mind worked, but he tried, and what he ended up seeing was someone who looked down on feelings and treated them carelessly.
Bria was straightforward. When she was into someone, she said it outright. But with an attitude like that, Kaleb couldn’t tell which of her words were real and which were lies.
Bria could fake anything. At the beginning, just to get revenge on him, she’d forced herself to get close to him even when it disgusted her.

Chapter 816 Giving Her a Chance
Kaleb unconsciously clenched his fists. He didn’t know how to respond.
Finished
From his reaction alone, Bria already had her answer. A sharp pain spread through her head. Physical pain was easier to bear. At least it distracted her from the emotional pain, which hurt far worse.
When you’d done everything you could and still couldn’t win someone back, it wasn’t just helplessness you felt-it was a deep, crushing despair.
Bria had always lived a life where everything went her way, Suddenly encountering someone she couldn’t have was something she couldn’t accept.
And yet, no one was obligated to return her feelings or act according to her wishes. That was the normal way of things. But knowing that didn’t make it hurt any less. Bria didn’t want to accept it.
All she wanted was for Kaleb to respond the way she hoped he would.
Unfortunately, reality didn’t work that way.
One person’s heartbreak was something the other could never truly understand.
Bria had already pushed herself further than ever by trying to hold onto him this calmly. There was no way she’d break down and beg Kaleb. Acting pitiful was something she could never do, not even if it killed her.
So she decided to give him one last chance. “I want to come to your birthday.”
Kaleb stayed silent for a long time. “Is there any point?”
This time, Bria was the one who left first.
Kaleb stared in the direction she’d gone for a long, long time. Slowly, his expression turned pained.
Getting close to her meant getting close to pain..
But staying away from her hurt just as much.
Finally, it was Kaleb’s birthday.
When Bria found out Matilda had gone to celebrate with him while he’d rejected her, the last thread holding her together snapped.
She ordered people to wreck Kaleb’s birthday party.
With a single command, she ruined his entire birthday.
If she couldn’t be happy, then neither could Kaleb.
There were only five people there celebrating with him. Everyone else panicked, except Kaleb.
