Chapter 822 Confession
I don’t want to lose you either.
Doushed
Kaleb stared at the small three-inch photo in shock as memories from the past flooded back into his mind. piece by piece.
At the time, he hadn’t known how to deal with something so unexpected. He’d panicked and run away. Before he left, he’d looked at that photo and assumed Bria wouldn’t care about it, that she’d just throw it away. He never imagined she’d keep it.
She’s been using this phone case for a long time. She actually carried it with her all along?
Just for a photo, she’d risk her life and run into a burning car.
The moment he thought about what that meant, it hit him hard. He stared at Bria without blinking, his voice softer than before. “It’s just a photo. Is it really that important?”
Kaleb kept asking the same question again and again. On the surface, he was asking about the photo, but what he really meant was something else entirely. Do I matter that much?
Someone avoidant like him would keep checking, over and over, if she really liked him. That was how Kaleb was. When Bria admitted she’d forced herself to get close to him even while feeling disgusted, it hit him hard. Since then, he’d needed certainty, a clear answer. The questions would keep coming until he felt completely sure. Only then could he feel safe.
And right now was the perfect moment to ask.
Bria gave him her answer. “It is. It really matters.”
Kaleb shifted his jaw slightly, trying to hide his emotions. “Don’t ever do something that dangerous again.” Bria broke into a smile. “You’re worried about me. Just admit it.”
Kaleb looked at her, his voice low. “Promise me.”
Bria asked, “Why should I listen to you?”
She was smiling when she said it. Kaleb wanted to stay serious, to make her promise she’d take care of herself from now on, but everything in this moment felt just right.
The weather, the timing, the space with only the two of them, even the faint scent of perfume in the air. everything felt perfectly in place.
There was no better moment than this to ask.
“Do you still have feelings for me?” Kaleb looked at Bria, the weight gone from his gaze, leaving only sincerity.
Just a second ago, they were talking about the photo, understanding each other without saying it outright. Bria knew how passive Kaleb could be. She’d thought she’d have to find the right moment to break that final barrier herself. She hadn’t expected him to ask so directly the very next second.
There was no warning at all. Bria’s heart suddenly started racing, so fast that it startled even her. Because she thought she knew what this meant. She couldn’t believe Kaleb had come to find her not for the ring.
but to…
Confess…
Wait, no.
I’m not overthinking this, am I? Since when did Kaleb become like this? There isn’t even any buildup. I didn’t sense anything at all. Is it really just because I risked my life to retrieve that photo of their first kiss that moved him?
But the Kaleb I know is steady and reliable. He doesn’t act on impulse, and he never goes against his own will. If he’s doing this, it means he’s already thought it through. No one can force him into something he doesn’t want. So what pushed him to this point?
All kinds of thoughts flashed through her mind. In reality, only one or two seconds had passed, but her head was full of questions.
But she wasn’t going to ask any of them now. First, she’d secure Kaleb, this complete beginner when it came to relationships. She could figure out the rest later, take her time asking when exactly he’d made up his mind.
Bria answered just as seriously, “I have feelings for you. It’s been going on for a long, long time. It’s the first time in my life I’ve had feelings for someone for this long. You broke my record.”
