Chapter 821 Didn’t Want to Lose It
Kaleb asked, “So the first thing you did after coming back was follow me?”
Bria replied, “You knew?”
“Why were you following me?” Kaleb looked at her, something complicated flickering in his eyes.
Finished
“You left without a word, so why come back now? And the first thing you do is trail behind me? Bria, I really want to find out what your real deal is.”
Bria was still thinking about how to answer.
Kaleb spoke again. “Give me my ring back.”
Bria thought of the women’s ring and felt a pang in her chest. She tested the waters. “I thought I grabbed the wrong thing. So it really was yours. Who were you planning to give it to? It’s only been two months, and you’ve already fallen for someone else?”
Kaleb ignored her question. “Give it to me first.”
Bria wasn’t happy. “You came all this way just for the ring, didn’t you? If it meant that much to you, why’d you throw it away?”
Even after two months apart, as they talked, Kaleb realized she was still the same familiar Bria. She hadn’t changed, just not as aggressive as before.
Maybe it was because she’d just barely escaped something dangerous and was still weak. The one thing Kaleb hated seeing most was a weakened Bria.
The Bria he knew had always been fierce and arrogant enough to crush everyone under her feet. But now that she’d drawn in her claws and quieted down, it didn’t feel satisfying, like she’d been subdued. Instead, Kaleb felt something twist in his chest.
He wondered if she was unhappy, if something had wronged her. Deep down, he couldn’t accept the idea of someone like Bria, bright and untouchable, being hurt even a little.
Even if hardly anyone could hurt her, he still didn’t want to see her sitting there quietly, saying nothing. He almost wished she could always be surrounded by admiration, with all the love in the world centered around her.
Kaleb felt like he was enabling her,
But what could he do? That was how he truly felt, and it wasn’t something he could control.
He really had fallen for Bria.
Kaleb’s tone softened. “Give it to me, and I’ll tell you.”
Bria shook her head. “Then you tell me first, have you fallen for someone else? If you have. I’m not giving it back. You have to promise me you haven’t.”

Kaleb replied, “I haven’t.”
Bria didn’t believe him. “Really?”
“I’ve never lied to you.”
Bria paused. “Are you taking a shot at me?”
Kaleb smirked. “If you’ve lied to me before, you’d know why you feel guilty.”
Bria shot him a sharp glare, but her tone wasn’t harsh. “I’m injured right now, and you’re still taking jabs at me? It’s only been two months, and you’ve already gotten sharp-tongued? Before, you could barely be bothered to talk to me.”
The calmer Bria acted, the less she argued or snapped at him like before, the more unsettled Kaleb felt.
Bria should just be herself. She doesn’t need to change for me.
Kaleb clenched his hand and took a deep breath. Only now did he finally dare to look at the bandaged burns on her body. From the moment he walked in until now, he’d been consciously avoiding them.
Because he was still shaken, a lingering chill ran down his spine.
Now that he really looked, he couldn’t take it. It felt like his heart was being squeezed tight, and it was unbearably painful. Thinking back to what he’d seen when he arrived, he was still shaken.
Kaleb asked, “Why did you run back into the car? It was already on fire. There were open flames. Weren’t you scared?”
Bria looked at his suddenly serious expression. “Are you worried about me?”
Kaleb replied, “If something had happened to you, worrying would’ve been pointless. I just want to know why you don’t take your own safety seriously. You might be Bria, the heiress of the Winstons, but you only live once. What if it had exploded? If you lost your life, or even if you were lucky and survived, you could’ve been permanently injured. Would you be able to bear that?”
Listening to him lecture her, Bria didn’t feel like joking around anymore or trying to smooth over the awkwardness of not seeing each other for two months.
All she felt was how much he cared, how real it was. It was so obvious.
Bria was stunned. Kaleb is actually expressing it?
Just that small glimpse of his concern and the way he used to care for her was enough to break through everything she’d been holding back. Her eyes turned red.
