Chapter 834 A Toast to Five Wishes
Kaleb said, “Are you drunk or what?”

Emmett tattled, “Bria, look at this. Kaleb’s totally dodging the question. I’m his friend, and even with me, he’s playing it ice–cold. The way he is, the only way he’d ever land another girl is by sheer dumb luck, so it has to be you.”
Kaleb said, “Are you sure you’re not drunk?”
Andrew couldn’t take watching these two clueless idiots any longer. “Kaleb, are you seriously not picking up on this? Emmett’s freaking out. If even a guy like you can land a girlfriend and he still hasn’t, of course he’s losing it on you.”
Kaleb arched an eyebrow at Emmett.
Emmett shot Andrew a death glare. “Can you just stop talking for once?”
Andrew said, “That’s how people react when you hit a sore spot.”
Emmett was speechless.
Bria said, “If you’re actually serious about dating, I can set you up.”
Emmett’s mouth twitched. “Nah, I’m good. Watching other people date is way more fun. I don’t have time for that right now.”
He was feeling a tiny twinge of pressure, but it was barely a blip. Emmett just wanted to vent. If he actually wanted a girlfriend, he’d go get one himself.
Emmett wasn’t in any rush right now. As for Kaleb
ding up with Bria, that hadn’t happened because
Kaleb went looking for it. Fate had dropped it right in his lap, and there was no stopping that kind of thing.
Bria said, “Cool, whenever you’re ready, just give me a call.”
Emmett said, “Sure thing, I won’t be shy about it.”
Bria asked, “What’s your type, anyway?”
Emmett said, “I’m not picky.”
Kaleb dropped in out of nowhere. “He likes the older–woman type.”
Emmett shoved Kaleb hard. “Don’t go saying random crap.”
Andrew teased, “A man of taste.”
Emmett said helplessly, “Come on, you guys, lay off. Tonight’s about Kaleb and Bria Let’s just toast to them being together.”
“Fine, I’ll let it slide for now.” Andrew raised his glass again, and the five of them clinked together. The crisp sound of glass was ringing out. Andrew had a real knack for keeping things rolling. How about we use this

as a chance for everyone to share one wish?”
Andrew looked around and didn’t see any objections. “Want me to go first?”
Bria gave him a sideways glance. “Go for it.”

“I’m hoping I can retire early. I’m sick of working for my dad–running around all day, networking nonstop, drinking with clients. It’s killing me. The day I end up with a beer gut is the day I officially say goodbye to my carefree, exciting life.”
Andrew had been busting his butt for his dad lately, going on overseas business trips, struggling to stomach the unfamiliar local food. His dad had only let him bring along an assistant to toughen him up Otherwise, he’d have brought a personal chef.
Bria gave Andrew a long, unimpressed look. “You can’t even handle a little hardship?”
“A little? Are you kidding? It’s brutal–I’m barely holding it together.”
Bria had recently caught wind of something. Andrew’s dad had an illegitimate son from another woman, and that kid was apparently pretty sharp.
Andrew’s dad had suddenly been piling work onto Andrew, and the real reason was to test Andrew’s abilities, trying to figure out who deserved the heir slot.
The news was under wraps, though. Bria had only caught a passing mention from her brother, Troy, when she went to visit him, and even she couldn’t say for sure if it was true.
“If you don’t start taking things seriously now, you’re going to suffer later on.” Bria knew Andrew had a decent relationship with his dad. If the illegitimate child story was real, Andrew would take a serious emotional hit. On top of that, with the massive pressure of an inheritance fight–if he didn’t get his act together–it would wreck him mentally and physically.
Bria wasn’t actually worried about Andrew. He’d been sharp as a tack his whole life, with a brain that fired on all cylinders. Whenever Bria needed something done, he was her first call, and he’d built up serious problem–solving skills over the years.
Andrew’s only flaw was that he was lazy as hell and never took initiative. But once there was real pressure
T on him, he might actually step up.
Bria herself coasted through life, but she was still building her own network. There was no way she was going to sit back and let Andrew lose. Otherwise, her friend would take a hit in status.
If Andrew couldn’t shake off his lazy, slacker ways, she’d push him along herself. Some illegitimate kid lurking in the shadows didn’t scare her one bit.
Andrew was actually a little caught off guard that Bria of all people was pushing him to step it up. They normally just goofed around together, but anything Bria stressed, Andrew always took to heart, because she didn’t waste her breath on empty pep talks. That was a lesson he’d learned over the years. Andrew shot Bria a meaningful look, then nodded quickly, “Okay, okay, whatever you say,
Bria looked at Renee. “What about you? Got any wishes you want to come true?
“Me?” Kenee thought it over. “Honestly, I’m pretty content with how things are right now.
