Halle turned to look at him. “Busy again today?”
“Watching me work this hard does it make you feel really proud of yourwif? Voer threw box was parked onto the couch and started to lose his temper
Halle had already seen how emotional Edgar could get. He also couldn’t wand seeing her doing well. He was always assuming the worst about her.
Right now, Halle actually felt a bit of respect for Nina. She had to act as Edgar’s emotional trash can every single day.
Of course, it’s good to be patient with someone’s temper and support each other. But if one person keeps giving and the other never grows, only a saint could accept everything forever.
Halle knew she couldn’t do that.
She had no duty to smile and go along with him when she was being attacked for no reason. “If I say I’m proud, you get upset. If I say I’m not proud, you don’t believe me. So what do you want me to say? That I’m both proud and not proud?”
Just that one sentence made Edgar’s face turn red with anger. He stared at Halle fiercely, his expression almost twisted. After taking a few heavy breaths, he pointed at her and said, “So now that your career is going so well, you look down on me, don’t you? I knew it! Halle, you look down on me, right!”
Halle immediately frowned.
“Don’t even answer. I already know what you’re thinking!” Edgar grabbed his coat and pulled the door
open.
The loud slam earlier had woken Hayley. She came downstairs to see what was going on.
She ran into Edgar right as he was about to leave.
“It’s so late. Where are you going?”
Edgar was still full of anger. He said through clenched teeth, “The daughter-in-law you like so much looks down on me. What do you think I’m still doing in this house?”
Hayley froze. “How could Halle look down on you?”
Edgar snapped, “How would I know? She’s just too capable, that’s all!”

And with that, he left.
Hayley stood there, confused.
Halle had heard everything. Edgar came back, lost his temper, and then went straight to Hayley to say those things, pushing all the blame onto her.
Halle didn’t bother to explain. Hayley and Tyler were smart people. They could see clearly what was going
Hayley went back to her room and asked Tyler, “Edgar is throwing a fit. He says Halle looks down on him.”
Tyler’s brows pulled together tightly. There was disappointment in his eyes, mixed with disgust. He clearly wanted to scold Edgar badly, but since Edgar wasn’t there, and only his wife was, he held it in. He said coldly, “It’s not that she looks down on him. He’s the one not good enough for Halle,
Hayley started to worry. “They’ve only been living together for a few days, and they’re already fighting. Being apart for so many years must have affected their relationship.”
Tyler didn’t say much more. He was planning to watch Edgar’s behavior a little longer before making any decision.
Hayley, as a woman, was more sensitive when it came to emotions. From the start, she had already felt something was off. Now that uneasy feeling suddenly grew stronger. After being separated for so many years, could their feelings really stay the same?
Hayley looked at Tyler. “Can you go talk to your son? He doesn’t listen to me anymore. He might still listen to you. Go ask him what happened. I don’t feel comfortable asking Halle…
Thinking about it made her even more upset. “Look at what your son did. They’ve only been living together for a few days, and he already lost his temper and left her behind. What kind of behavior is that?! Good thing it’s Halle-she already knows us well. If it were someone else, a girl staying in a strange house for the first time, getting into a fight within days and then being left alone like that, how would she feel?! If it were me, I would’ve left that same day and called off the engagement!”
The more she spoke, the angrier she got. Halle was very comfortable at their home, like she was visiting relatives, not feeling wronged at all. But no matter what, Edgar should have been more considerate. Even if he didn’t fully understand her feelings, he should at least put himself in her shoes. [
But he did neither. Not a single one. As a man, he didn’t even have basic manners.
Was it because they had known each other for so long–so long they felt like family-that he didn’t bother hiding his bad temper or his flaws anymore?
Tyler said coldly, “If I still have to teach him things like this, then what good is he?”
Hayley said, “Have you thought about this? Halle is so capable now. She built such a big company all by herself. She’s seen all kinds of people and situations. What I can think of, do you think she can’t? She’s definitely already disappointed in Edgar. She just hasn’t completely cut things off yet!”
Her voice turned heavier. “I was already worried she might call off the engagement. But she didn’t, which means she still had hope for their relationship. But now it looks like she’s only giving Edgar one last chance.”
