Chapter 864 Enjoyed His Company
Edgar just wanted Halle to soften toward him. He thought that way, he could protect her well and make her depend on him more.
So it wasn’t that there was no way-it as just that it didn’t hurt enough yet.
After finishing work in the morning, Halle was ready to eat lunch. She planned to find a nice restaurant. She cared a lot about her figure. She didn’t avoid eating at breakfast or lunch, but she ate very little at night. So she always enjoyed her lunch the most.
When she just arrived at the parking lot, she saw James.
“I’ve been waiting for you all day.” James walked over. Without waiting for her agreement, he grabbed her wrist and smiled brightly. “I’m taking you to something good to eat.”
The way James spoke felt so natural, like they had been together for a long time.
Halle tried to shake off his hand, but she couldn’t. So she ended up going to lunch with him.
James had clearly done his homework. He picked a restaurant she had never been to, and the food was actually really good.
“You don’t need to send me so many messages. I didn’t read most of them.” Halle said while eating and chatting with him.
James said, “You don’t have to read them, but that won’t stop me from sending them.”
Halle glanced at him. “If I don’t reply, won’t you feel bad about it?”
James said, “If you get annoyed and block me, I’d only feel bad for a little while.”
“Then should I block you now?” Halle teased him.
James said, “Ms. Kinsman, please spare me, just for this meal I treated you to.”

As he spoke, he also took a moment to pick a piece of boneless fish for Halle.
Halle looked at the fish on her plate and ate it politely. “If I really got sick of you, would you still keep bothering me like this?”
“You mean you’re not that annoyed by all the messages I send you, right?” James responded.
James immediately smiled. “See? You just admitted it yourself. So starting today, I’m eating lunch with you every day.”
She stayed quiet. James continued on his own. “If you don’t hate it, then don’t call it bothering. That sounds awful. We’re just having normal communication. And if you really do find it annoying, I can kind of tell.” He pretended to think for a second. “Then I’d find a way that bothers you less. After all, chasing you is my thing. My first rule is not to annoy you.”

Halle said. “So… you’re saying you’re pushing it more because I let you?”
James immediately smiled. “See? You just admitted it yourself. So starking today, I’m eating lunch with you every day.”
Halle froze. “I didn’t say that.”
James said, “That’s exactly what you meant. Ms. Kinsman, you can’t take it back, or you’ll be hurting may feelings.”
Halle really wanted to smack James.
Being around James really did feel different from being around someone younger.
He looked “obedient,” but he actually controlled the pace of how they got along.
As expected, older men were pretty scheming.
But the surprising thing was that Halle didn’t actually dislike his company that much.
Eating lunch with him didn’t make her tense. In fact, she felt pretty relaxed.
Mainly because James could talk about anything, he had no attitude, spoke in a very down-to-earth way. and most importantly, he wasn’t stupid. Compared to eating alone, having James as a lunch buddy was actually kind of interesting.
Halle didn’t agree right away. “It depends. If I’m in a bad mood, don’t come bother me.”
James said, “Yes, ma’am.”
Halle was speechless.
Why is this suddenly starting to feel like a slow, steady kind of relationship? Because of her childhood trauma and relationships, Halle had always been drawn to stability-something gentle, consistent, and lasting. Damn it, I even felt a tiny bit of that from James? That shouldn’t be right.
James wasn’t just good-looking, he also knew exactly how to talk to women. Total pro ar it.
But Halle didn’t feel like he was putting on an act or trying to show off. Instead, he felt like someone who was really living a grounded life. He liked walking dogs, enjoyed good food, simple things like that. There was no pressure or distance when being around him.
A man with that kind of background and personality was really rare.
