James said, “Ms. Kinsman, please spare me, just for this meal I treated you to.”

And if you really do find it annoying, I can kind of tell.” He pretended to think for a second. “Then I’d find a way that bothers you less. After all, chasing you is my thing. My first rule is not to annoy you.”

Halle froze. “I didn’t say that.”

Being around James really did feel different from being around someone younger.
