“Ayla, who asked you to run my life? You should just stay chained to Troy–so disgusting.”
Ayla was left speechless.
Zane was so furious at Ayla that he looked ready to cough blood.
It took him half a minute to steady his breathing.
He no longer had the strength to keep barking–he just grabbed his phone to call the police.
Right then, Max arrived.
Ayla frowned the moment she saw him.
Max and Troy were thick as thieves.
Troy adored Skyla; Zane was Skyla’s brother.
Max would definitely take Zane’s side.
Emmett’s expression also changed. He quietly told Kaleb who Max was and told him to prepare himself.
Kaleb just let out a contemptuous snort.
He never feared owning what he did. Not even a little.
But Troy …
What the hell was happening between Troy and Ayla?
He couldn’t wrap his head around it. His attention cut toward Ayla, harsh and sharp, his hand unconsciously curling into a tight fist.
The only thing running through his head was: If I punch Troy once, how bad will the consequences be?
Terrible. Absolutely terrible.
His hand tightened further.
He could only get stronger–fast.
He wanted to be strong enough that one day, he’d have the right to slap Ayla awake and force

Zane saw Max and immediately exhaled in relief.
He started tattling on the spot.

He said that he was just drinking, and Kaleb started provoking him. He had no choice but to defend himself! Then, he dragged his sister Skyla into it–clearly hoping Max would back him
“Ayla, Max is here. You scared now? You insult me? I don’t care–I’m not losing anything. You think he’ll scold me?”
Max’s peach–blossom eyes narrowed, soft and charming as always, but holding a flicker of threat.
He lifted a corner of his mouth. “Zane Summer?”
Zane replied, “Yes, I’m Skyla’s brother.”
“Oh. It’s you.”
“Yes! Last time at the racetrack-”
Max cut him off. “Looks like Skyla’s unlucky, having a brother like you. Can’t win a fight, can’t win an argument, and from what Ayla just said—”
He used his chin to signal toward Ayla.
Ayla blinked. What the hell was Max doing?
Max then turned back to Zane. “-You’re only good at begging. What a disgrace. Coming out here to make a mess–aren’t you afraid you’ll piss your sister to death? And now you want to call the cops? You want me to embarrass myself with you?”
Zane froze.
Max turned his gaze sharply on the bar manager.
“Are you an idiot? He’s making trouble, and you don’t throw him out?”
His tone wasn’t loud, nor angry–yet the manager felt panic sweep through him.
Instantly, he snapped to attention and waved his hand. Security dragged Zane out on the spot.
Just like that, the entire mess vanished the moment Max arrived.

Max jerked his chin toward the exit. “Ayla, sorry you had to see this at my place. Since you’re already here, how about a drink?”
He glanced at Kaleb too, noting the same cold, sharp eyes Ayla had.
Once he confirmed their relation, his smile finally reached his eyes. “Your brother, huh? Then both of you–join me.”
Emmett instantly caught the shift in Max’s attitude. He grabbed Kaleb’s arm and whispered urgently, “Kaleb–this is the Bennetts. Actual rich people.”
Kaleb shot him a dead, icy look. “Could he be worth a little more?”
To him, Max looked like a punk.
And his eyes on Ayla? Disgusting.
Emmett didn’t know what to say.
He thought, Bro, we’re broke, can you shut up?
Max repeated, “Come on. Let’s go.”
Ayla didn’t respond. Instead, she held up the surveillance video to Max. “My brother didn’t start the fight. As the bar owner, throwing Zane out was the correct decision.”
Max was a shark–he caught everything instantly.
Watching the footage, he immediately understood Kaleb’s purpose.
Zane was just an idiot. He deserved everything.
“Zane won’t appear here again.” Max added gently, “So, I should apologize to you.”
And while he was at it, earn a bit of goodwill from Kaleb.
Kaleb’s hostility was obvious.
“No need. My brother and I still have things to handle.”
Ayla rejected him cleanly.
She had no patience for small talk with Troy’s friends–especially right now.

Ayla grabbed Kaleb’s wrist and led him out.
Max kept one hand in his pocket, his gaze dropping to where Ayla was holding Kaleb’s wrist.
The manager returned after escorting Zane out–saw Max’s expression–and nearly had a heart. attack.
What the hell was going on?!
Why did Max look like that?!
Outside the bar.
Juliet was waiting. The second she saw Ayla, her face darkened. “Ayla, what is wrong today? Why were you talking like that?”
Her tone–confused, wounded–looked painfully similar to Juliana.
Kaleb’s heart clenched hard.

He refused to see traces of his biological mother in Juliet. That was Ayla’s delusion, not his.
Moments ago, when Ayla rejected Max so bluntly, Kaleb’s glare had softened, but now it turned sharp again.
Ayla could act pathetic if she wanted. But he didn’t want to watch it with his own eyes.
