Chapter 667 Luck
Max had never imagined his luck would change, but suddenly, fortune seemed to smile on him.
Even though things were still tentative, he finally had the chance to get close to Ayla.
-And not just as a friend, but as her boyfriend-someone allowed a gentle intimacy he’d only dreamed of.
His long, dark lashes framed eyes deep and unreadable.
Maybe… there was a real future for him and Ayla.
If fate hadn’t wanted it, Ayla would never have let him in.
Just holding her hand, just sharing a kiss, felt like a miracle he’d once thought impossible.

He used to lose himself in fantasies about Ayla, dreams that always felt hopeless. Now those dreams breathed with possibility.
He had actually kissed the woman of his dreams.
His heart battered against his chest, wild and fierce, and Max found himself addicted to the sensation. He’d never known excitement like this before.
Everything he felt-this rush, this hope-was a gift Ayla had given him.
Ayla, meanwhile, ignored Max’s adoring gaze, absorbed in her work. Max sat beside her like a loyal, oversized puppy, his fingers twining around her left hand.
He played with her fingers as though they were some new treasure, marveling at each delicate bone.
Ayla’s palm tingled under his touch, and she glanced at him from the corner of her eye.
He was utterly absorbed in the task, head bowed, lashes lowered. From this angle, his profile was almost ethereal-like a portrait come to life.
Ayla, who had always had an artist’s eye for beauty, couldn’t help but let her gaze linger just a little longer.
Max felt her attention and looked up, his lashes trembling, meeting her eyes with a gaze full of quiet intensity. For a moment, the air between them changed, charged with something unspoken.
“Done with work?” Max’s lips curled into a soft, knowing smile.
“Almost,” Ayla replied, tugging her hand away. “Is it really that fascinating?”
“To me, you’re a treasure,” Max said, voice gentle. “I want to discover every part of you.”
Knowing her work was nearly finished, Max hooked his arm and rolled her chair closer with a practiced tug
He sat on the couch, looking up at her, still holding her hand.
“Tired? Want a massage?” he offered, sincere.
Ayla froze at the word “massage.” Memories flashed through her mind-no, she needed to forget Draven, to erase him from her

body and soul.
“Maybe later,” she said. “Right now, I’d rather just talk.”
Max was a new kind of man for Ayla-nothing about him echoed her past. Being with him felt fresh and unfamiliar.
He waited patiently, listening with an attentiveness that neither Troy nor Draven had ever shown her.

His warmth was as natural as sunlight, a trait completely missing from Draven’s cold presence. Ayla realized she’d chosen well.
If she wanted to forget, the best way was to fill her life with new memories-with Max.
“That video you sent before-was it on purpose?” she asked, teasing.
A flicker of embarrassment crossed Max’s face, but he quickly recovered. “I’m sure it hurt you at the time. I’m sorry. But honestly, I’m glad I sent it.”
Ayla had already thanked Max once for helping her escape her toxic marriage. Now she teased, “When we bumped into each other at tennis, you lied to me, didn’t you?”
Max grinned. “Ah, I admit, my morals are questionable.” He laughed. “I was desperate for your attention, any excuse to get closer to you… Ayla, I tried every trick I could think of.”
He’d even reached out to his least favorite cousin James, all just to weave himself into Ayla’s world. It had all been part of his plan -James was just a pawn.
Ayla squeezed his hand. “Did you want to invest in Kaleb’s company for me, too?”
“Of course,” Max replied. “I wanted to impress my future brother-in-law.”
“A few hundred million, just like that?” Ayla raised a brow.
“I’d give it for free if I could,” Max said, sounding a little regretful. “But you and Kaleb turned me down. And now your brother thinks I’m nothing but a sleazebag.”
Ayla laughed. “The flowers you brought on the day of my divorce from Troy-they were actually for me, right? Not for Troy?” The guy even dressed for the occasion.
Max clicked his tongue. “How do you always see through me?”
Ayla burst out laughing. “Why didn’t you say so then?”
“If I had, you’d have thought I was crazy,” Max said. “Ayla, I just wanted you to see me as normal, not some lunatic chasing after you.”
“Well, everyone around Troy is a little crazy,” Ayla replied dryly. “Tell me, when you decided to confess to me, were you ready to break things off with him?”
“I was friends with Troy, but we’re nothing alike,” Max said, voice steady. “I never liked how he did things. And once I fell for you, I knew-if I wanted to be with you, it was only a matter of time before Troy and I went our separate ways.”
