Divorce Me I'm Done Serving You (Ayla and Troy) novel Chapter 867

If Halle hadn’t been so driven, nobody would have looked down on him. Edgar wanted nothing more than to smash her laptop to pieces and drag her outside to have fun with him.

But things never went his way. He grew increasingly unable to stand it. They were young, hot-headed, and the fights never stopped—so his decision to take a job overseas had been inevitable.

Staying by Halle’s side every day would have suffocated him.

As for Nina, he’d originally planned to keep that from Halle. But she found out. If she hadn’t, Edgar would have been perfectly happy never telling her.

He replayed their entire history in his head, start to finish. And when he was done, Edgar was crying.

He really had loved her. Truly.

His emotions were a tangled mess of grief, confusion, and a fierce, searing resentment.

They weren’t supposed to end up like this! Why did Halle have to change? Why did she have to become someone he couldn’t love?

The one thing Edgar clung to was this: he knew exactly what he felt for Halle, and he also knew that even after discovering his betrayal, Halle still hadn’t given up on him—and that told him the depth of her feelings. So they could still be together.

But Edgar refused to be the only one suffering. He wanted Halle to understand exactly how miserable he was, then guilt her into pitying him and changing herself for his sake.

That was the only way they’d survive as a couple. Otherwise, if every day going forward was this kind of self-inflicted torture, Edgar wouldn’t be able to take it.

After getting thoroughly drunk, Edgar called Nina.

At least, he had one soft place to land where he could dump all his feelings.

...

After Edgar had thrown his tantrum and stormed out, Halle sat alone, humming a tune and scrolling through emails on her laptop.

Hayley hadn’t come to find her, which meant she’d decided not to get involved.

Halle even suspected that Tyler and Hayley’s views on the engagement had shifted.

Sooner or later, someone would say it out loud.

"Still up?" James sent a message.

Halle responded to his messages depending on her mood. She was bored right now, so she replied.

"Not yet."

"Want to video chat?"

"Text."

"I want to show you something funny. And also check in."

"Fine." Who doesn't love gossip?

His personality had a way of making people drop their guard without realizing it.

Halle said, “Your nonsense is already a pretty major flaw. Ticking time bomb.”

“What, you mean my sweet nothings? Please. I haven’t even called you ‘babe’ yet, and I’m already getting accused of being slick? I’m innocent here. I’m just a good man who’s checking in so you don’t overthink things.”

Halle rolled her eyes. “I’m warning you—do not call me ‘babe.’ It's revolting.”

James replied, “Fine. I’ll save it for when you least expect it.”

“One more word and I’m hanging up.”

“Wait, wait—I said I had something funny to show you.” James’s gaze flicked to something off-screen, then came back with a grin. “It’s a good show. But you have to promise me—after you see it, no getting sad.”

Halle connected the dots in a second. “Edgar’s at a bar?”

“Clever girl,” James said. “And he’s not alone.”

Halle was quiet for two seconds. “Show me.”

James studied her through the lens. He was sharp—he could tell something was off, but nothing too serious. So, he flipped the camera.

James was on the second floor, where the glass railing gave a clear view of the booths below. Edgar was knocking back drink after drink while a petite woman coaxed him on.
