Divorce Me I'm Done Serving You (Ayla and Troy) novel Chapter 870

Halle ignored his baseless accusations and didn’t let him drag her into his emotional vortex. She simply said, “When was I ever not good?”

Edgar couldn’t stand that look on her face—that unwavering confidence. She was objectively average at best, and yet she acted like she was the greatest thing since electricity.

This, right here, was her problem. Why else would I lose my temper every time we talked? Why else would I feel so angry? It was always her fault.

Edgar decided he needed to fix Halle’s attitude. And fast.

“There’s a college reunion in a few days. We’re going together.”

Halle’s workload had been lighter recently. A reunion was doable. “Sure. I’m free.”

Edgar didn’t know why, but literally everything Halle said or did rubbed him the wrong way now.

What did she mean by “free”? Even if she wasn’t free, she should make time for me!

Fuming, he turned and left without another word.

Halle raised an eyebrow.

Why did he give me the cold shoulder at the drop of a hat? What was going on inside that head of his?

Hayley, watching Edgar walk Halle to her car, tugged at her husband’s sleeve. “Do you think he can smooth things over with Halle?”

Tyler couldn’t have cared less about Edgar’s performance. He said nothing.

“Would it kill you to say something?”

He was profoundly disappointed in Edgar but refused to take it out on his wife. He gave a measured response. “Didn’t we agree to stay out of it? Whether they work it out is up to them.”

Hayley said, “I can’t even be curious?”

Tyler didn't say anything.

They’d barely finished talking when Edgar walked back in, face still sour. Tyler knew instantly that the conversation hadn’t gone well—or more accurately, that Edgar had made it unpleasant all on his own.

What a total disappointment. But if Edgar showed even a sliver of improvement—a single surprise—Tyler would’ve given him one more chance. Now? Forget it. Just keep watching.

Hayley could see it, too. All she could do was worry.

If Edgar wouldn’t fix this, she’d at least step up herself—cook for Halle, check on her, make sure she didn’t feel abandoned.

...

The day of the reunion arrived. Halle had Louisa clear her schedule.

She’d initially assumed it was a high school reunion, but it turned out to be a college one.

Part surprise. Part dark amusement.

Holy shit.

What have I ever done to him?

I haven't even confronted him about the cheating, and he's the one who hates me?! How profoundly stupid could one man be?

Halle was starting to wonder if she’d ever actually see the day Edgar came to his senses and apologized. Because everything he was doing lately looked like a speed run toward rock bottom.

A rock bottom so deep she couldn’t even find the floor.

A girl Halle used to be friendly with stood up and waved her over, leaning in to whisper, “We got here at 7.30 p.m. Nina’s here, too.”

Edgar had told her 8 p.m. Clearly, he’d wanted the whole audience seated before she walked into his little ambush.

The girl whispered her warning and then announced loudly, “Come on, come on—we haven’t seen Halle since graduation! Perfect timing to catch up!”

As she spoke, she coughed pointedly toward the gaming table.

The room was large enough that the entrance had a blind spot. The cough was a heads-up for Edgar.

Classmates who didn’t know Halle asked what was going on.

Whispers started. “That’s Edgar’s fiancée. They’ve been together since forever.”

“But Edgar brought Nina tonight. Did Halle crash the party to start something? What’s the point? This is just awkward for everyone. And isn’t she embarrassed? If it were me, I’d never show my face.”

“Look at her, though—not even a flicker. Cool as ice. Her composure is insane. If I were her, I’d want the earth to swallow me.”
