Divorce Me I'm Done Serving You (Ayla and Troy) novel Chapter 879

Tyler disliked that tone immediately. After his disappointment in Edgar had settled in, everything about him seemed grating. “What do you mean, ‘who knows’? If you don’t know, call and ask. If you do know, tell us. Is Halle your enemy now? Do you have to talk about her in that snide tone even with us?”

Tyler was already forcing his anger down, but his voice still came out sharp.

Edgar’s face fell instantly.

He took his phone and turned away. He didn’t call anyone. He only put on a show. After a while, he came back.

When he returned, Hayley was tugging Tyler’s arm, trying to calm him down. Seeing Edgar come in, she asked, “Is Halle stuck in traffic? She’s always been punctual. I hardly ever see her late.” Then, she added, “It’s only a small thing. Don’t read too much into it. Even if she’s a little late, what’s the big deal? You two don’t need to sit here with long faces.”

Edgar had already been irritated. Hearing his mother defend Halle like that made his anger flare. “She said she’s getting her nails done. She might be another hour.”

Edgar expected to see his father’s brows tighten. Instead, Tyler showed no reaction. Hayley froze for a second, said nothing, and glanced at her husband’s face.

Edgar frowned. “You don’t believe me?”

Hayley said, “All right. We know.”

Edgar looked at his parents’ reactions and felt bitterly disappointed. The double standard was obvious. If he made the slightest mistake, his father would criticize him.

If he had been the one late today, Tyler would have already been giving him the cold shoulder.

Of course, one incident wasn’t enough to change someone’s opinion. But today had opened the first crack.

Edgar couldn’t stand staying with his parents. After checking on Dakota, he went to his car and waited for Halle.

After Edgar left, Hayley said, “Halle called you last night to ask about Mom, and even offered to help find better doctors. How could she possibly be late because she was getting her nails done?”

Tyler asked, “Do you believe that?”

Hayley paused, not catching on right away. Tyler patted his knee and stood. “Let’s take a walk.”

Hayley looked at her husband, thoughts tumbling through her mind. They had walked for a while before realization struck her. “Are you saying your son lied?”

Tyler didn’t answer.

Hayley had basically confirmed her suspicion. She just found it unbelievable. Why would Edgar lie about something like this? It was absurd.

What exactly was Edgar trying to do?

Why was she finding her own son harder and harder to understand?
